y Meeting
On 19 September the Half-Yearly General Meeting took place at the club ringing in a new and refreshing approach to the running of the evening. The accent was on participation, reporting and entertainment. Members were greeted to a superbly arranged multimedia show with music showing off pictures from club events over the last six months. Patrick Rychner who is in charge of communications created a fascinating review of our activities which was much enjoyed. You will find the minutes of the Half-Yearly in the March 2008 issue.

Another highlight of the evening was the masthead design competition. The Masthead is the top part of the Newsletter which gives it a unique character and identity, just like the Masthead on the Age or the Herald Sun newspapers. The competition was open to all members and their families with

the only condition to incorporate the new Swiss Club logo and the old name ‘Edelweiss’. The aim was to involve members closely in the exciting design process and to help us determine the look and presentation of our newsletter. I am pleased to say we ended up with four fantastic entries listed here in alphabetical order: Roland Isler, Patrick Rychner, Sybille Steiner and Colin Wilkinson. Members voted with a show of hand which ended in a close call. In the end, the outcome was in favour of Patrick Rychner and the winning entry now adorns our newsletter ‘Edelweiss’. To all designers, thank you for participating! Eddie Muto, one of the directors of Terra Rossa Bar & Restaurant was invited to introduce himself and his marketing concept. Few were left in doubt of the success of his whirlwind presentation and proven strategies promising a prosperous outlook. He outlined his plan for the outdoors sitting area under a canopy which is still subject to council permit and completion of the streetscape project. We have confidence in doing business with this trustworthy professional and look forward to fostering a good working relationship. We were also able to portray the new faces of the Swiss Club signage which now are on illuminated display until late night outside the entrance of the restaurant together with signage on the side of Malthouse Lane. The request by members for better signage has been implemented. A huge 1.90m x 1.95m Swiss flag hanging on the wall as a backdrop reminded us of the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne where it flew proudly for a short while. The committee of the Swiss Club would like to acknowledge with gratitude the receipt of this beautiful flag. It was presented to the club by Primo Calabresi on behalf of our late member Richard Spieler. We will pay homage to Swiss athletes and their achievements throughout the ages by finding an appropriate place in the club to hang the flag again. Rolf Huber, President
