OF LUXURY WINES

E. & J. GALLO WINERY
PURVEYORS OF FINE WINE
Dear Friends, Dear Partners,
It is a great pleasure to introduce our new Luxury Brands brochure for International and share with you the latest additions to our carefully curated portfolio.
2023 has been a special year for E. &. J Gallo Winery, as the company celebrates its 90th anniversary and commemorates the vision of its founders, brothers Ernest & Julio Gallo, who back in 1933 established their own business in Modesto, California, at the repeal of Prohibition. Since then, our hallmark has been an unwavering commitment to exceptional quality, exemplified by the significant investments Gallo has made over the last 15 years into wineries and prime vineyards across-California’s premier wine regions. The coveted vineyard sites within the portfolio — including the legendary Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa, the acclaimed Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, and the historic Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma Valley - give Gallo access to the best fruit California has to offer, ranging from diverse mountain sites in Napa Valley to cool, coastal havens in Sonoma County and the Central Coast.
2024 will also see the addition of two new world-renowned brands to our luxury portfolio as we launch the recently acquired Rombauer Vineyards and Massican internationally. For over four decades, the Rombauer brand and family have built a reputation around quality and integrity. It is an iconic brand rooted in distinctive and respected wines. Since its founding in 2009, Massican has been a “white wines only” winery – a rarity in California – that prides itself on transparency and ethical environmental practices. Beyond making wine, Dan Petroski has been a thought leader regarding the future of California wine. Together, Rombauer Vineyards and Massican will offer our luxury consumers further opportunity to discover the diversity of our portfolio and explore the beauty and complexity of California wines.
We hope you will enjoy our collection of wines and we thank all of you for the work you do to bring our wines to life. Our dedicated team of luxury wine professionals are here to support, so do not hesitate to get in touch.

LOUIS M. MARTINI
A Napa Valley Legacy
LOUIS M. MARTINI
Our family has been crafting world-class Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa’s finest vineyards since 1933.
Louis M. Martini voyaged to America with a vision of making the very best wines in the world. He started his storied journey with a simple premise – the best grapes make the best wines. This led him to Napa Valley, the most coveted winemaking region in California.
The premise turned into passion, one that passed down through three generations of Martini winemakers. Today, the legacy and tradition carries on at our historic winery, where we are dedicated to the craft of Cabernet Sauvignon. A product of passion and perseverance that Louis instilled nearly a century ago.
We were the first winery built in Napa after the repeal of the Prohibition in 1933, and remained the only newly built estate until Mondavi in the 1960’s. Since our establishment, we have dedicated ourselves to finding the most coveted vineyards with the finest grapes. The Martini legacy has long been a testament to the family’s
dedication and love of wine. A journey which started in Genoa and would lead Louis to San Francisco where the business was born. In the 90 years since Louis M. began the winery, we have committed ourselves to follow in his footsteps to ensure a standard of Cabernet Sauvignon excellence that’s head and shoulders above the rest. A true example of The American Dream, pursuing our passion with determination.
Our deep roots in Napa have afforded us long-lasting relationships with premier growers across a multitude of appellations. Monte Rosso Vineyard has been an estate property since 1938, consistently producing red varietals of unmistakable minerality and acidity. Perched in the Mayacamas Mountains 300 meters above the Sonoma Valley, Monte Rosso grows some of California’s oldest grapevines and most acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon. Vineyard Manager Brenae Royal now tends to these historic vines with precision and care. Stagecoach Vineyard has been a blending component for Lot No. 1 for years, Martini enjoys ample access to its 600 acres of highly prized mountain fruit. Mark Williams, the fifth winemaker in Martini history, continues our legacy of superior craftsmanship in the cellar with a view to the future in modernized winegrowing techniques.

For 90 years, Louis M. Martini has crafted world class Cabernet Sauvignon from the exceptional vineyards of Napa and Sonoma counties.
Our founder believed in a simple, honest premise: The best grapes make the best wines. Today, this legacy continues at our historic winery with an acclaimed collection of unforgettable wines, including the pinnacle of our portfolio, Lot No. 1 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinicultural Notes
Lot No. 1 is something of a mosaic of iconic appellations and vineyards, an assemblage of Napa Valley’s best mountain, benchland and valley floor fruit. The 2017 vintage is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon from Atlas Peak, Howell Mountain, Stags Leap, Mount Veeder and other stellar sites throughout Napa Valley AVA. From a growing perspective in 2017, ample winter rains fuelled vine growth early in the season followed by steady warmth in the summer and fall, leading to a slightly early harvest with ripe, fruit driven intensity.

Winemaker Notes
Our concept of small lot winemaking dates back to 1948, when Louis M. Martini began ranking his most exceptional Cabernet lots to use for a special selection blend. We honour this attention to detail with every vintage we make, fermenting Lot No. 1 in small open top tanks, which allow for a high level of precision when extracting colour and flavour. All lots were alternately punched down and pumped over up to four times daily to build the desired foundation for the wine’s mouthfeel. Our barrel program for Lot No. 1 is also unique, with the primary component being 36 month air dried French oak. This longer drying time encourages rich tannin structure throughout the duration of the wine’s 19 months in barrel (100% French oak, 80% new).
Wine Profile
The 2017 vintage opens with aromas of black currant, plum, incense and leather while the striking palate is filled with notes of dark fruit and black cherry with hints of toasted caramel in a plush mouthfeel. The exceptionally long finish evolves with layers of toasted oak while an unparalleled balance of fine tannins and acidity will allow this wine to age for decades.

From a growing perspective, the 2018 vintage began, like 2017, with plentiful winter rains. The Monte Rosso Vineyard rolls across steep, rugged terrain in the majestic Mayacamas Mountains nearly 1,300 feet above the Sonoma Valley.
Owned by the Louis M. Martini Winery since 1938, it is named for its rich, red volcanic soils and has produced award-winning wines for three generations. The vineyard’s mix of high altitude, position above the fog line, low-yielding vines and ideal western exposure produces wines with a unique sense of terroir. Monte Rosso is one of California’s most prized locations for wine grapes.
Vinicultural Notes
In 2018, we had an ideal summer with generous sun-filled days and cooler marineinfluenced nights, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The mild weather continued late into fall creating a very long growing season which allowed excellent flavour development and expression. Harvest 2018 produced fruit with complex flavour characteristics and outstanding aromatics.

Winemaker Notes
Select Cabernet Sauvignon blocks were carefully hand harvested and hand sorted, then gravity fed into small, open top fermenters for cold soaking up to three days. After fermentation, the wine was racked by gravity into oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. The blocks were aged separately for months before the final blend was assembled and sent back to barrel for more aging. The wine was barrel aged for 28 months in a combination of French oak barrels, 69% new, and American oak barrels, 19% new.
Wine Profile
Our 2018 Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a slice of history in a glass. We gathered the fruit from a selection of our favourite blocks in our historic Monte Rosso Vineyard, including the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon block in California. The nose fills with Monte Rosso’s signature spice and sweet wood aromatics and a thread of smoky ancho. Notes of ripe cherry, black currant and warm plum compote fill the palate. Underlying hints of sarsaparilla and caramelized oak lead to a long, earthy finish with a touch of wet clay.

The Monte Rosso Vineyard is perched in the Mayacamas Mountains, one thousand feet above the Sonoma Valley floor.
Named for its iron rich, red volcanic soils, Monte Rosso has produced grapes of unmistakable character for more than a century. Three generations of the Martini family have made wine from this iconic vineyard and it continues to inspire our winemaking team on a deeply profound level. Monte Rosso remains the source of some of the most coveted bottles in the Louis M. Martini portfolio.
Vinicultural Notes
This wine is 100% Zinfandel from our revered Monte Rosso Vineyard. Though yields are small, about 1.5 to 3 tons per acre, old gnarled vines produce exceptional fruit with deep concentration. Vintage 2017 saw steady winter rains giving way to a temperate spring. A warm summer followed, leading to an early Zinfandel harvest at Monte Rosso.

Winemaker Notes
Our Gnarly Vine Zinfandel grapes were picked and sorted by hand. They were then gravity fed into small, open top tanks for a two day cold soak before primary fermentation. The wine was aged in a combination of French oak barrels (53% new) and American oak barrels (25% new) for a total of 16 months.
Wine Profile
The fruit aromas are set against a spicy backdrop of cinnamon stick and Sichuan pepper. Full bodied and concentrated the textured mouthfeel is plush, finishing long. Vibrant, juicy red raspberry pie unfurls on the palate, accented by the historic vineyard’s signature dusty earth overtones.

For more than 90 years, Louis M. Martini Winery has crafted world class Cabernet Sauvignon from the exceptional vineyards of Napa and Sonoma counties.
Our founder believed in a simple, honest premise: The best grapes make the best wines. Today, this legacy continues at the historic winery in the Napa Valley with an acclaimed collection of unforgettable Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
Vinicultural Notes
After early morning harvesting, the grapes were gently destemmed and put into upright tanks to cold soak for up to three days. To further extract flavour and varietal character, the wine was given pump-overs three times a day and kept on skins an extra 15 to 20 days of maceration time. The wine was then transferred to a combination of French (40% new) and American (3% new) oak barrels for a period of 18 months.

Winemaker Notes
Nearly all the fruit for this wine originated from our estate vineyards in Napa Valley with a small percentage from Sonoma County. Vintage 2019 was near perfect with early rain, a dry winter and fogshrouded mornings over a long, warm summer. The fruit arrived in pristine condition with vibrant colour, soft tannins and bright acidity.
Wine Profile
Classic and well-structured, our Cabernet Sauvignon brims with soft and approachable notes of black plum and wisps of fennel on the nose. Layers of dark cherry and cassis are unscored by hints of black licorice and a gravelly earthiness. The oak is well-integrated, imparting notes of sweet aromatics, resin and a bit of torn mint on the long finish. Serve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with all manner of grilled steak, juicy burgers and Portobello mushrooms.
“I was the first to produce varietals in quantity. Nobody else did. And I put the vintage on. Each year’s crop is different; if a person buys one and likes it and comes back for it, that avoids a mix up…”
LOUIS M. MARTINI, 1973

ORIN SWIFT
A collection of art and storytelling that comes to life in one-of-a-kind wines
ORIN SWIFT
Wine will always be core to our creative output, but it won’t be limited by it. We make films, publications, art, events, products, destinations – anything required to bring creative ideas to life.
Orin Swift is a collection of art and storytelling that comes to life in one-ofa-kind labels and wine styles. Led by legendary winemaker Dave Phinney, Orin Swift’s portfolio is known as much for its creative and evocative expression of art on the front of the bottle as it is the bold, yet finessed styling within the bottle. Dave’s passion for wine dates to 1995 when he went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester ‘studying.’ During that time, he was introduced to wine and how it’s made, and he was hooked. After graduating university a few years later, he started working for Robert Mondavi Winery as a harvest worker. It was there he decided that if he was going to work this hard, it needed to eventually be for himself. Fueled by a passion that fuses
fine art and wine with street art and what he calls “dirt farming,” Dave founded Orin Swift Cellars in 1998. The name Orin Swift comes from Dave’s family, combining his father’s middle name, Orin, and mother’s maiden name, Swift. In just a few years, Orin Swift’s striking blends and arresting labels on wines, such as 8 Years in the Desert and Mercury Head, drew an international fan base that clamors to catch every release.
Orin Swift wines offer unique, incomparable storytelling behind every bottle, providing a non-traditional offering in the historically traditional luxury wine segment. Dave and his winemaking team are dedicated to expressing geographic diversity in their sourcing, creating wine blends from a range of California’s premier sites – predominantly Napa Valley. Dave sets his sights on small lots within the most coveted growing regions while ensuring that only fruit of the highest quality makes it into the final blend, resulting in a portfolio of wines that appeal to a variety of senses. Every wine in the portfolio, from the vineyard source to the distinct artwork adorning the label, offers a unique point of view while creating a heartskipping impression.

Mercury Head is our physical manifestation of history, land and art in a bottle of wine.
When we decided not to make Mercury Head in 2020, the anticipation for the next release was palpable. In the cellar, we were giddy, ready to assemble a blend worthy of the famed dimes. The 2021 vintage was fortuitous in both yield and quality, giving us a lot of components to make trial blends with. We’re very excited to bring back Mercury Head as 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from both the Stagecoach and Warnock Vineyards on Atlas Peak, the Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford and the Taplin Vineyard in St. Helena.
Winemaker’s Notes
An almost-black, opaque garnet core sits in the glass with slow-moving tears falling down the sides. Immediate aromatic notes of ripe cassis, charred ribeye, sandalwood and freshly cut oak pilfer—breathe deeper for more. The first sip is a complex, layered conundrum of blackberry, black plum, fennel, licorice and dark chocolate. More sips peel back the layers to reveal a rich and balanced wine with a deep cassis core. A sweet linger on the finish closes the wine with softly textured chalky tannins.

A tale of juxtaposition, a weathered farm hand and a delicate butterfly (Papillon in French), extends to the wine itself - a Bordeaux blend that is delicate yet brawny, nuanced yet bold.
From the mountain tops of Atlas Peak to the gravelly soils of St. Helena and everywhere in between, the resulting blend elicits a dialectic found on the label: the sensory introduction to Papillon is overwhelming and breathtaking; yet, as the wine opens, it transforms slowly into a wine of elegance and opulence in one. It is truly the epitome of our style of winemaking.
Our good friend and fellow winemaker, Greg Gorman, photographed the label.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2019 Papillon pours a neon crimson and settles into a dark core with a ruby rim – crimson through and through. Aromatically, the wine opens with powerful notes of blackberry, kirsch, coastal sagebrush and evolves into ripe pluot and roasted fig. An enveloping entry of grandeur, the palate reveals a more elegant side of the wine: black plum, blackcurrant, toffee and trace hints of sweet red vermouth, muddled mint, and orange peel. Polished, balanced and with an imagined sweetness, the wine closes with ripe but firm tannin and a mild drying character, capable of converting even the staunchest of Bordeaux-philes.

A tale of juxtaposition, a weathered farm hand and a delicate butterfly (Papillon in French), extends to the wine itself - a Bordeaux blend that is delicate yet brawny, nuanced yet bold.
It’s rare to find a wine from the Napa Valley composed of all five Bordeaux-style varietals, but for many years, that has been Papillon’s focus. The raw strength and prestige of Cabernet Sauvignon buttressed by the opulence of Merlot, the spiciness of Cabernet Franc, the depth of Malbec and the sheer unctuousness of Petit Verdot comes together seamlessly. The 2021 Papillon is sourced from Napa Valley growers we’ve worked with for decades—Stagecoach Vineyard, Indian Joe, Morisoli Vineyard and even a touch from the Monte Rosso Vineyard over on Moon Mountain, just to name a few.
Our good friend and fellow winemaker, Greg Gorman, photographed the label.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2021 Papillon fills the glass with an unmistakable dark crimson, a flash of neon purple and ruby rim. Tears move glacially and the wine opens with aromatics of boysenberry jam, violets, chocolate covered blueberry and hints of Cara Cara rind, graphite and brioche. The entry and mid-palate are bright throughout with considerable weight—tones of cassis, blackberry and baking spices flourish. Enveloping texture, chalky, drying tannins and an enduring finish bows out the wine.

Piece by piece, Dave put together the famous Abstract collage over the course of four weeks after years of ripping out images from magazines. Each image on their own conveys a special story, yet together, they express Dave’s own story. Similarly, the wine is a collage of hundreds of wine lots, each tasted, trial blended and tasted again to determine the final iteration; each lot tells its own story, but blended together, they become part of the Abstract saga.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2022 Abstract pours a dark purple core with a neon, ruby rim. The nose is quintessential Abstract but with a broodier twist—notes of ripe black plum, cacao, black pepper, cedar, dried porcini, forest floor musk and sweet oak. The entry is coating and flooding with hints of blueberry preserves, tarragon, balsamic glaze and anise. Bright and lifting through the palate, the finish offers an umami note akin to eggplant yakitori.

I think it makes a statement about the wine, which I like to call, “Separate among equals”.
I was looking through National Geographic and I found this photo by Vincent Musi. It’s a shot of a mummified priest in a 16thcentury catacomb in Palermo, Sicily. There is such a sense of power and dignity and reverence to the image, and I thought that’s how we think about great Cabernetwe just really respect it.
Winemaker’s Notes
Poured as a dark garnet, the wine opens with primary aromas of ripe cassis and blackberry. Supporting hints of dark chocolate, toasted oak and cedar support the typical Orin Swift Cabernet Sauvignon nose. The entry is flooding with notes of dark fruits and a mid-palate bolstered with redcurrant, bay leaf and a reemergence of cassis. The wine closes with well-developed tannins and a striking minerality despite the supple and soft finish.

The palate continues many of the aromatics with traces of cassis, blackberry, savory and thyme. The baddest wine of them all, Machete takes no prisoners.
Blending trials for Machete are amongst the favorite for each vintage. A Petite Sirah-based wine, the trial tastings leave everyone with purple teeth and a puckered palate. It can also be the most exhausting. However, after various tastings and blend iterations, the 2020 Machete is true to the style of being approachable for the highly tannic and visceral varietal. Prominent vineyards across the state make up the blend including the Frei Ranch, Barrelli, Snows Lake, Monte Rosso, Dark Horse, Stones Throw, Zaca Mesa and Summerwind vineyards.
Winemaker’s Notes
A dark mauve core with a neon purple rim, the wine stains everything. Opening aromatics on the 2020 Machete are gorgeous immediately: ripe pluot, carne asada, new cowboy boots, lilacs, espresso bean and wet concrete. On the palate, layers upon layers reveal themselves, from a plum galette topped with fior di latte gelato to 85% cacao dark chocolate to barbequed tri-tip and sweet oak. Puckering tannins to finish, the wine closes on a high note with a touch of blood orange zest and lingering acidity.
8 YEARS IN THE DESERT 2022 CALIFORNIA RED WINE

Dave’s grand return to Zinfandel after 8 years away, 8 Years in the Desert is a series of 8 labels released over 8 years.
Zinfandel holds a very special place in our hearts; it is one of California’s signature grapes, easily associated with the state. Suited to the warm growing regions across the west coast, we focus on finding great vineyards that produce Zinfandel to our liking. There’s a perfect window when picking Zin—pick it too early and you end up with a thin, “green” wine; pick it too late and you risk a stuck fermentation; pick it just right... well, that’s our goal. Sourced from vineyards of pedigree, such as Stefani, Barrelli and Monte Rosso, the sixth iteration exudes the ethos of Eight Years in the Desert: a heart and body of Zinfandel with added nuance and complexity from Petite Sirah and Syrah— the quintessential California Red Wine.
Winemaker’s Notes
At first glance, the 2022 Eight Years in the Desert looks to be almost black, but after closer inspection, a dark crimson starts to shine through with a tinge of purple on the rim. The nose is rife with notes of ripe blueberry, black plum, wild raspberry, espresso bean, sweet oak and a hint of crème de menthe and cedar. The entry is akin to walking through a tunnel of velvet walls with blackberry jam, reduced strawberry and a tough or rhubarb. Bright acidity throughout the palate, with wine closes with round, ripe tannins fresh pluot and dark chocolate.

A focus on geographic diversity has been a principle of ours for many years.
Sourcing grapes from across California gives us the flexibility to produce wines when some regions are affected by forces outside of our control. But when the entire state experiences a great vintage, the diversity can sometimes be a problem… a good problem. Extensive tastings of trial blends are difficult when each blend is a great for specific reasons. But in the end, we all agreed on the blend in front of you, comprised of fruit from across California — Sonoma Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands, Sta. Rita Hills and many more.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2022 Slander delivers a medium ruby core with a lucid rim that’s almost transluscent. Aromatically, bing cherry, briar fruit and some raspberry give way to ripe strawberry and associated red fruits. Bright and enveloping on the entry, notes of fresh strawberry, watermelon, thyme and a hint of funk come through. Spicy on the finish, the wine closes with a flash of blue fruits and lift.

A core tenet of Orin Swift is the pairing of high-quality wine and unique artwork.
In the case of Mannequin, we source Chardonnay from across California with the goal of creating a wine that is both enjoyable and thought-provoking, ideally, forcing one to have similar expressions to one of the mannequins on the label. Sourced from the Laguna Ranch, Loney Ranch, Rancho Real and the famous Bien Nacido Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley, which mannequin matches your expression upon first taste.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2022 Mannequin pours a luminous gold core with flecks of emerald, which appear stunning in the glass. Aromatic notes of yellow peach, crème fraiche and graham cracker emanate without much coaxing. On the palate, bright hints of white peach, bosc pear, caramel apple, candied walnut and lemon pith envelop and coat effortlessly. A round finish and supple mouthfeel give way to a touch of toffee at close.

Blank Stare has always been a favorite around Orin Swift, so bringing it back for the 2022 vintage after a pause is exciting.
Blank Stare embraces the cooler Russian River Valley resulting in a wine defined by brighter fruit tones and a fresh, lively palate, sourced entirely from the Laguna Ranch and MacMurray vineyards.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2022 Blank Stare pours a bright pale gold with an enticing shimmer of jade. Opening aromatics pilfer from the glass as it pours—notes of key lime, Granny Smith apple and hints of grapefruit, white pepper, frangipani and minerality. On the palate, the entry is crisp and fresh with bright lemon-lime, a touch of grapefruit and guava. The mid-palate and finish complement each other with a delicate and elegant fade of tropical mangosteen and lychee framed by youthful acidity.
“There’s a soul to this business... that soul isn’t just from the people who make wine, it’s from everyone who loves wines that make them feel something.”

L’USINE
The French word for ‘The Factory.’ It is an homage to all the Warhols of the world
Andy Warhol’s iconic studio, ‘The Factory’, was a gathering place for drag queens, rock stars, and brilliant artists.
Inspired by his studio, l’usine translates to ‘The Factory’ in French. The name paying tribute to those who desire something against the mould. Dave, honouring his rebel within, created a portfolio for the ‘Warhol’s’ of the world. L’usine is Dave Phinney’s continued passion and journey to master Pinot Noir. Sourced from some of the best vineyards he chooses in any given vintage, these wines express the artistry of the winemaking process. To honour the rebel within, the front labels display art rather than displaying the grape variety or its origin which is typical in this category. The labels speak to the ‘Warhol’s’ of the world and reflect the personality of each bottle.
Visionary winemaker Dave Phinney lives and produces wine in Napa Valley, but his interests truly span both the globe and various trades. His first foray in the wine industry was in 1997, working as a Napa Valley harvest intern. Dave quickly discovered if he were going to work that
hard, he’d knew it would eventually have to be for himself. The following year he set out on his own and created the now internationally-celebrated Orin Swift Cellars. For over 20 years, Dave’s ongoing well of creativity has yet to show signs of drought. His innovative wine blends and continuous stream of imaginative labels have solidified universal acclaim, hailed for both the quality and creativity of his approach. With a collection of diverse, mysterious wine brands, Dave looks to tells a new story with every bottle.
While best known for his full-bodied and boldly flavoured reds based on Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet, Dave Phinney has been experimenting with Pinot Noir since 2005. He was inspired by the challenging nature of this varietal and wanted to master the craft. Whereas Pinot Noir’s are traditionally produced to allow the terroir to shine, Dave’s style tends to yield big and bold wines where fruit trumps earth. L’usine is Dave’s artistic studio where he continues to hone his craft and produce exceptional Pinot Noirs from top terroir in California and beyond. There is a battle within Dave’s representation of Pinot where he is trying to find that perfect contrast between boldness yet elegance, and terroir yet his own artistic expressions.

Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County, California
Dave Phinney selected four hillside growers to work with on the 2018 vintage of Sta. Rita Hills. Clones 667,777 and 828 were used.
De-clumping and green passes in each block with one pass focussed on shoot thinning and the other to remove any green or unripe berries. The yields were between 2-3 tons per acre, with all grapes meticulously hand-harvested.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2020 l’usine Sta. Rita Hills pours a radiant crimson core with a bright rhubarb rim and opens with aromatic notes of black cherry, pomegranate, lavender and earthy forest floor. A seamless transition on the palate, the entry is opulent with ripe strawberry that doubles down in the mid with more red fruits, black cherry and some baking spices. Throughout the palate, there exists a harmonious tension of acidity, minerality and a hint of saline that culminates in a lasting finish with subtle traces of tannin.
SLEEPY HOLLOW VINEYARD 2019 PINOT NOIR

The grapes spent 14-20 days on their skins with gentle punch downs 3-4 times a day. The wine was gravity racked to barrel and sat on the lees without stirring. Aged 9 months in French oak of which 50% was new.
Tasting Notes
The 2019 l’usine Sleepy Hollow Vineyard is a Pinot Noir that isn’t dominated by ripe fruit aromas; instead, the earthy side of the varietal takes center stage. The medium crimson hue has a dark rim that foreshadows the nose of brioche, potting soil, black fig, pomegranate and some red fruits scattered throughout. Flooding the palate, the entry is pure raspberry preserve with a hint of crunchy blueberry and strawberry on the midpalate. The welcoming toasted oak on the finish rounds out the wine with a soft, lifting mouthfeel and a lingering note of cranberry and acid.
ANNAPOLIS RIDGE VINEYARD 2019 PINOT NOIR

Vineyard Notes
The Annapolis Ridge Vineyard is planted on a 30 degree slope in Goldridge fine sand loam soil. The ranch is extremely isolated and requires a lot of handwork to farm. Blocks 10, 12 and 14, were farmed for l’Usine using clones 777 and 828. All grapes were hand harvested with yields at lower than 2 tons per acre.

Winemaker’s Notes
A neon cardinal core with a tinge of purple, the 2019 l’usine Annapolis Ridge Vineyard is the boldest of the three wines. In the glass, the wine moves a tick slower than expected with ripe black cherry, blueberry, fresh California oregano and other red fruits. With prominent weight, the palate is rife with cranberry, strawberry, orange peel and even a touch of black plum in the resinous mid-palate. Gorgeously textured with a hint of tannin, the acidity from the Sonoma Coast brings the wine to an effortless close of power.
“Wine, like art, is raw. It requires years of hard work and a high likelihood of failing. It is subjective at best. It isn’t always pretty. Like art, for every good or great wine that is made, there have been thousands of failures.”

PAHLMEYER
A dream to rival the best of Bordeaux
PAHLMEYER
The Pahlmeyer story begins with an audacious dream given life by the dedication of an inspired Napa Valley visionary: Jayson Pahlmeyer.
A trial lawyer by trade, Jayson Pahlmeyer was captivated by the idea of a Napa Valley wine of such exquisite quality, complexity and prestige that it would rival the best of Bordeaux. Specifically, Château Mouton Rothschild. With an insatiable thirst for adventure and a certainty that Napa could be elevated to iconic status, Jayson’s dream of creating a “California Mouton” was born.
By 1986, winemaker Randy Dunn composed the first Pahlmeyer wine, Proprietary Red, a Napa Valley Bordeaux blend. Anointed 94 points by Robert M. Parker, Jr. upon its release, the 1986 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red launched Pahlmeyer’s astonishing track record of acclaim.
Today Winemaker Katie Vogt carries on Pahlmeyer’s pedigree with expertise, artistry, and keen understanding. Building on the eminence Pahlmeyer has earned over three decades, Katie approaches each new vintage as an opportunity to honour the extraordinary success of her predecessors while continuously raising the bar. Perfect balance requires risk and extremes while demanding calibration and calculation. At Pahlmeyer, balance comes with rugged mountain top vineyards and meticulous fieldwork. It’s achieved through precision winemaking merged with masterful blending. Balance occurs with time in the finest barrels and age in the bottle, beautifully revealing itself with the pull of the cork, vintage after vintage.

Vintage Notes
2021 was a remarkable growing year. All of our vineyards expressed themselves in their purest form. There was a lot of distinct character, block to block, which allowed us to create truly unique, interesting, and compelling wines. An arid year resulted in meager yields throughout our vineyards, fewer clusters, and tiny berries giving us gorgeous concentration. While it was an early vintage, gentle weather throughout the growing season allowed the vineyards to develop steadily and fully, resulting in intense, complex fruit. The berries retained naturally high acidity levels, and with low yields and small berries, they achieved a concentrated tannin profile. That ideal combination of acidity and tannin – with a pure, powerful fruit core – indicates this will be an ageworthy vintage.
Winemaker Notes
We picked our Chardonnay from high-elevation vineyards during the cool of the night. Each whole cluster was meticu-lously hand sorted at the winery before pressing, and the two press cuts were segregated and aged separately. The juice naturally settled in stainless steel tanks until ready to rack to barrel. Our top lots were racked to new French oak barrels where they completed primary fermentation via partially native yeasts. After primary fermentation, the lots remained on lees and were stirred up to three times per week through malolactic fermentation to create a rich, luscious texture. The wine continued to age on lees in 100% new French oak barrels for 12 months and was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Winemaker Impressions
Our 2021 Chardonnay is a thrilling, age-worthy wine, ultra-rich and concentrated yet beautifully balanced with lively fresh acidity. Intense aromas of ripe gooseberry, lemongrass, and sweet clover bound from the glass with lingering notes of orange blossom honey. The wine has a brilliant juxtaposition of opulence and bright acidity on the palate, with pure, focused fruit at its core. A surge of tarte citron and toasted almond rides an edge of lifting acidity as polished oak tannins frame the fruit beautifully and seamlessly, captivating notes of salted caramel and baked spiced pear echoing on the finish.

Vintage Notes
The 2019 vintage was mild, long, and evenly paced. After generous winter rains, a cool and wet spring emerged. Storms in March and April delayed bud break, and more showers in late May gave vines a welcome water reserve for the growing season. Early June brought steady, warm temperatures and sunshine that persisted throughout the growing season. These ideal conditions allowed our vines to develop consistent, clean clusters with complex, layered flavours and excellent structure. Brief late-season heat spikes ushered the berries’ maturity before settling into mild, acidity-preserving conditions as harvest began. As a result, exceptional, welldeveloped fruit was delivered into the cellar.
Winemaker Impressions
Our 2019 Proprietary Red is a rich and finely detailed tapestry of the finest lots across our four mountain vineyards. The bounding aromas flicker between fruity and earthy with an interweaving of wild blueberry, black plum, cassis, saddle leather, and cedar The opulent palate is layered and expansive with captivating flavours of crushed ripe blackberry and castelvetrano olive. The focused fruit core is framed by generous fine-grained tannins, surging long with an echo of earth and spice.
Winemaker Notes
The 2019 vintage offered us a broad spectrum of stellar lots to consider for our Proprietary Red blend. We hand harvested each of our high-elevation sites in the cool of night and meticulously hand sorted and destemmed at the winery before fermenting and aging each lot separately. We meticulously evaluated each lot, first on its individual merit and then in the context of the blend. Upper Range, a newer vineyard in our lineup, was a standout out in the group, possessing a signature savory character that elevated the intense fruit profile of the Pahlmeyer Estate —the heart and soul of the wine—and created a beautiful interplay between fruity and savory components. The individual lots were aged in nearly 100% new French Oak for 20 months. After blending, the wine was bottled in June, 2021 for additional bottle-aging before release.

Our high-elevation Merlot blocks were handharvested at their most expressive moment. At the winery, the clusters were meticulously hand sorted and destemmed — with only the most perfect berries delivered to the tank. Fruit was gently and slowly extracted, spending up to 18 days on skins. Free-run juice was then collected overnight and aged separately from press cuts. We aged the wine in 89% new French oak barrels for 18 months. After careful blending of select lots, the wine was bottled in June 2023 for additional bottle age before release.
Winemaker Impressions
Our debut Pahlmeyer red from the stellar 2021 vintage is a thrill to experience, a wine that matches intensity with elegance, beautifully articulated and built to age. Aromas of blackberry and cassis leap from the glass with an under-score of black olive and dark earth. The palate is muscular yet refined, a lithe dance of richness and nuance. A focused core of fresh dark fruit— blackberry, boysenberry, and black plum is enveloped in polished tannins that lend a weighty grip without overpowering. A lifting note of lingonberry jam runs long through the finish, interplaying with hints of cedar, fresh leather, and sage that echo long on the finish.
“Pahlmeyer wines demand attention. They are truly inspired, showcasing the consideration and thought behind every choice and every detail. We’re taking vineyards to the edge and exploring the tension.”

JAYSON BY PAHLMEYER
Extraordinary wine from the iconic Napa Valley and pioneering Sonoma Coast
JAYSON BY PAHLMEYER
Following the centuriesold Bordeaux tradition of second-label wines, Jayson by Pahlmeyer was launched in 1992 to complement the Pahlmeyer portfolio.
Pahlmeyer winery began with the dream of visionary founder Jayson Pahlmeyer to craft a Napa Valley wine of such exquisite quality, complexity and prestige that it would rival the best of Bordeaux. Jayson wines are crafted to be more accessible in style, appellation and price, reaching a broader audience than the Pahlmeyer portfolio. Offering richness, balance and structure, Jayson wines are also softer, rounder and more approachable in their youth in comparison to the Pahlmeyer range.
Jayson offers diversity of varieties and vineyard sourcing. While maintaining a focus on mountain vineyard sites with their Napa Valley wines, Jayson integrates more fruit from the valley floor to add ripe, juicy characteristics, plush texture and softer tannins.
The full portfolio highlights classic varieties from California’s most notable winemaking regions, including Napa Valley Chardonnay, Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Red Blend.
Originally crafted entirely from lots that did not match the style of the Pahlmeyer range, we now seek out vineyards and varieties dedicated to the Jayson portfolio. With the freedom to use younger vineyard sites, unique winemaking techniques or to trial new barrel programs, the Jayson program offers winemaker Katie Vogt the opportunity to build wines toward the Pahlmeyer tier as well as crafting wines that offer their own unique identity.

The excellent 2019 vintage was long and even, with mild temperatures throughout the summer months. A cool, wet winter and spring was followed by warm and sunny conditions that lasted the duration of the growing season. Fruit development was consistent and clean, delivering layered, mature fruit notes, outstanding structure and appealing texture.
Winemaking Notes
Jayson Red Wine is a distinctive blend from some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards, crafted to express each vintage with intensity and richness. Grapes were hand-picked and hand-sorted before undergoing fermentation in stainless steel tanks to enhance its fresh fruit profile and retain its bright acidity. The wine was then racked to 58% new French oak barrels for 15 months of aging.
Tasting Notes
Jayson Red Wine is an approachable, deeply layered blend that delivers the exceptional quality that distinguishes Pahlmeyer wines. This Merlot-focused blend adds Cabernet Sauvignon for a velvety expression. Notes of plums, cherries and boysenberries on the full-bodied palate are contrasted by hints of lavender, clove and mushroom. Plush and inviting with a touch of savory characteristics, this Red Wine will pair well with a charcuterie plate or roasted pork tenderloin.

Vintage Notes
The season began with a mild, arid winter and early bud break. A cool spring slowed vine development and the long season eased into a steady, temperate summer. Cool mornings and warm, sunny days allowed the fruit to mature gradually and steadily, achieving great complexity, focus, and structure. Dry conditions led to lower yields and small, concentrated berries. Though the wildfires of 2020 severely restricted the harvesting of red varieties in our Pahlmeyer estate vineyard, the quality of fruit we did pick was superb. Faced with the compromise of an extremely low yield, Winemaker Katie Vogt chose to dedicate our finest estate Cabernet to our Jayson wines rather than bottle a 2020 vintage of Pahlmeyer reds. As a result, these Jayson bottlings possess a remarkable gravitas— truly delicious, with striking aspects of Pahlmeyer character.
Winemaking Notes
Our Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested at night to deliver naturally cooled grapes to the winery. Whole clusters were gravity-fed onto a vibrating table for hand sorting. Selected clusters were gently de-stemmed, delivering whole berries for a final hand sorting. After several days of cold maceration, the fruit entered primary fermentation for two to three weeks, then gently pressed in our stainless-steel basket. The wine finished malolactic fermentation in barrel, then aged for 15 months in 88% new French oak barrels.
Winemaker Impressions
Effusive aromas of blackberry pie, cassis, and leather greet the nose, foretelling the full, expressive palate. Intense notes of blackberry and plum interweave with flecks of pink peppercorn and plowed earth, amplified by a lift of fresh acidity. The tannins are firm yet seamlessly melded with the rich fruit, driving to a plush, juicy finish.

Our 2020 Jayson Chardonnay is layered and dynamic: The mountain fruit of our Pahlmeyer vineyards contributes intensity and crisp acidity, while our lower-elevation blocks offer freshness, tropical notes, and lovely aromatic lift. We hand-harvested each vineyard at optimal ripeness, picking in the predawn hours. Each whole cluster was meticulously hand sorted at the winery before pressing. The wine was gently whole-cluster pressed, naturally settled, and barrel fermented. It was racked from barrel for blending, then aged as a blend for 8 months before racking for bottling
Tasting Notes
A beckoning perfume of ripe pineapple, Buddha’s Hand, and brioche leaps from the glass, leading to a broad, lively palate of lemon curd, mango, and guava. The supple mouthfeel is buoyed by fresh acidity, sustaining the bright flavours, a touch of butterscotch lingering on the finish.

We harvested our Sauvignon Blanc just as it expressed vivacious acidity. The fruit was whole cluster pressed, settled, and then racked to neutral oak for fermentation and aging. Towards the end of fermentation, we gently stirred the barrels several times per week to build the richness and texture that beautifully counterbalances the wine’s naturally high acidity. The wine aged on its lees in barrel until racked for blending and bottling.

Tasting Notes
Our Sauvignon Blanc beams with freshness and breadth, delivering voluminous layers of bright fruit and floral notes that ride on lifting acidity. Opening notes of citrus blossom, lemongrass, and Kefir lime leaf lead to gooseberry, Key lime, and lemon meringue on the juicy, well-textured midpalate. Refreshingly crisp, the finish echoes with peach and green apple.
“Jayson is made to be enjoyed soon upon release, so my goal as winemaker is to make wines that are softer and rounder in texture and flavour profile. Our winemaking emphasizes managing the tannins and bringing forward the fruit notes.”

Our Chardonnay, beloved by customers around the world, is sourced from the Carneros region where the San Pablo Bay meets the southern end of Napa and Sonoma valleys. The cool climate and specific soils of this region provide ideal conditions for this quintessential Carneros Chardonnay with the Rombauer hallmarks of intense fruit flavours balanced by fresh acidity.
Viticulture Notes
An exceptionally dry and warmer than average start to the year ended with some spring rains and mild temperatures through the summer. This allowed for a long, even ripening period. The majority of the fruit was picked before a brief heat spike in early September. We picked at night when each block reached its optimal ripeness, preserving the natural acidity of this Chardonnay.
Winemaking Notes

Wine Profile
Aromas of ripe yellow peach, melon, and chamomile all framed by freshly baked pie crust. The palate is bright with flavours of nectarine, followed by a subtle spice, and lively acidity. The finish leaves you wanting another sip.

The fruit for this wine comes from vineyards in the St. Helena, Calistoga, Stags Leap District, and Atlas Peak AVAs.
Viticulture Notes
A mild winter with minimal precipitation ended with an early spring frost, reducing yields for the harvest. A hot summer, led to berries with intense and concentrated flavours. Harvest was long, with ideal conditions allowing us to pick each block at its optimal ripeness and at night to preserve the fruit’s natural acidity.
Winemaking Notes

The wine was gently basket-pressed before being racked to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging.
Wine Profile
The nose is marked by interwoven, intense aromas of red currant, mint, and warm pie crust. These continue to the palate where they support concentrated flavours of blackberry and cassis. A densely structured mid palate is framed by balanced acidity and ends with exceptional length.

Since producing our first vintage of Merlot in 1983, we’ve been committed to making the best possible expression of the variety.
Our Merlot is grown in estate-owned and grower-partner vineyards on the Napa side of Carneros, where the clay soils are similar to those of Bordeaux’s right bank. The cool climate allows the thin-skinned grapes to gradually develop flavour and tannins while retaining natural acidity.
Viticulture Notes
There were light rains in January and February and then no notable precipitation occurred for the rest of the growing season. Blackberry and ripe plum aromas lift out of the glass, mingling with decadent fresh piecrust, cinnamon, and other baking spices. Estate-grown wines from the iconic Sleepy Hollow vineyard
TALBOTT VINEYARDS
At Talbott Vineyards, we focus exclusively on crafting estate-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir by marrying old-world Burgundian influence with new-world technique in Monterey County.
Our celebrated Sleepy Hollow Vineyard is located at the base of the Santa Lucia Highlands, one of the coolest wine-growing climates in California. Here, the extended morning fog and reliable maritime winds create the perfect conditions for wine growing, allowing the fruit a long hang time to produce rich flavours and spectacular acidity. Building on a nearly 40-year legacy of meticulous craftsmanship, Talbott Vineyards continues to produce highly acclaimed wines of distinction.
Talbott’s famed Sleepy Hollow Vineyard was described as a California Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyard by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2016 for its ability to produce exceptional wines year-after-year, even under challenging conditions. More than any other vineyard, Sleepy Hollow has helped put Monterey and the Santa Lucia Highlands on the map as world-renowned California winegrowing regions. Today, Sleepy Hollow’s River Road block is home to the winery’s state-of-the-art Certified Sustainable winemaking facility.
Vines at Sleepy Hollow grow in cool conditions with moderate temperatures due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and east-northeast exposure. The vineyard receives warm morning sunlight with cooling fog that prevents the grapes from ripening too quickly.
Throughout its legacy, Talbott has protected this land, operating with sustainable practices. 100% of recycled water is used for vineyard irrigation, while solar panels are used to generate 70% of the winery’s energy.
Talbott Vineyards winemakers are keepers of a great history. We believe it is our responsibility to not only respect the past, but also to innovate in the present, ushering the legacy of Talbott Vineyards into the future. Our winemaker is Kamee Knutson, a California native who brings decades of Central Coast winemaking experience and an immense respect for Talbott’s legendary clones and blocks in Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. As Talbott’s winemaker, she’s excited to carry on the tradition of translating a sense of coastal California that Sleepy Hollow offers into exceptional wine.
Talbott Vineyards wines translate our acclaimed vineyards into every bottle we make. We farm to the vine and make wine to the barrel; these are the smallest-possible increments we can distinguish, and this is how we approach getting the very best from our vineyard into the bottle for you to enjoy.

Located 20 miles southeast of Monterey Bay, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard offers nearperfect conditions for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Morning sunlight followed by cooling fog from the Pacific Ocean offers the vines longer time on the vines to reach full phenolic ripeness. Well-drained sand, gravel and granite create rich, concentrated flavors in the grapes. As a result, Sleepy Hollow produces lower yields of intensely concentrated fruit and character for which the vineyard has become famous.
Vintage Notes
Our Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay is produced using primarily Dijon clones of Chardonnay that range from 15-25 years old. We blend these wines with enough of our original 1972 plantings from our prized South Block to add a sense of continuity and complexity. The 2019 growing season was steady and began with average rainfall and warm spring temperatures. Conditions stayed mild throughout the season with budbreak occurring as expected in the middle of March, leading to a consistent bloom and set. Warmer temperatures in early fall allowed for even ripening right through the end of harvest. Sleepy Hollow produced its usual modest crop of intensely flavored and structured grapes with beautiful acid and fruit balance.
Tasting Profile
Our flagship 2019 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay captures the crisp, coastal influence of our renowned Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in the glass. Rich aromas of lemon meringue and toasted oak greet the nose, leading to crisp notes of tree-ripe pear and apple with touches of brown sugar. The finish is bright on the palate with essences of limestone minerality and lemon peel.

With panoramic views of the Salinas Valley and beyond, Sleepy Hollow is perched on an expansive benchland 13 miles from Monterey Bay.
The vineyard features well-drained, sparse soils comprised of sand, gravel, and granite. These soils moderate yields and create rich, concentrated flavours in the grapes that translate beautifully into the wine. The vineyard receives morning sunlight from its east-southeast exposure and lives much of the time in the cool fog and wind from the Pacific Ocean. With a long, cool growing season, the grapes develop the character, intensity and depth of flavour for which the vineyard has become famous.
Vintage Notes
This wine is produced using approximately 90% Dijon clone grapes ranging in age from 15-25 years and approximately 10% Martini clone fruit from our original 1972 plantings. The 2018 vintage was exceptionally moderate with cool temperatures and very few heat spikes from spring through summer. As a result, the grapes enjoyed unusually long hangtime which developed complex flavours, optimal phenolics and beautiful acidity. Yields were normal to slightly below average with harvesting starting two to three weeks later than in recent years.
Tasting Profile
The 2018 Sleepy Hollow Pinot Noir is an elegant, luxurious expression of the world-class wine produced in our Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. Our flagship Pinot Noir offers a distinct earthiness, minerality and dark fruit intensity characteristic of Sleepy Hollow’s long growing season and terroir. Aromas of sarsaparilla, nutmeg and clove mingle with notes of ripe black cherry, raspberry and vanilla bean to deliver a rich, mouth-filling texture. Highly detailed red and black berry flavours, vibrant acidity and well-heeled tannins support the inherent minerality that yields a complex finish.
“More than any other vineyard, Sleepy Hollow has established Monterey and the Santa Lucia Highlands as world-renowned winegrowing regions.”

THE LANGUAGE OF YES
A journey of discovery
THE LANGUAGE OF YES
‘The Language of Yes’ or La Langue d’Oc is the term that medieval folk of southern France and adjacent environs used to describe who they were by how they spoke (differentiating themselves from ‘La
langue d’oil’ spoken by their northern neighbours).
‘The Language of Yes,’ a precursor of modern Provençal, is a window to a particular sensibility – the language of the love poetry of the troubadours – one that esteemed passion and romance above cerebration and most significantly, expressed a deep, almost mystical love of the land.
‘The Language of Yes’ is the language we seek to articulate in our far-flung New World outpost in the Central Coast of California, a dedication to affirmation and positivity. Great wine can only come from vignerons who love their land deeply, and whose love poetry is the vinous expression of their passion. The Language of Yes wines preserve the old ways, revealing the utmost respect for the integrity of the sites form which they derive. The raising of the wine is done with the lightest possible hand, allowing the natural exuberance of the vines, the grapes, the wine and the winemaker to joyously emerge, unmistakably pronouncing the Language of Yes.
All of the above is just fancy way of saying that The Language of Yes owes a cultural and aesthetic, even moral debt to the wines and vignerons of southern France. However, bear in mind that what we are trying to achieve here is not to blindly emulate the French, but rather, to try and find our own original style and voice, informed by the uniqueness of the vineyards, climates, and by the (mostly) sunny disposition of the Central Coast of California. The Language of Yes is certainly a journey of discovery, continuously working rather more to find, than to create complexity and soulfulness in the vines and wines.

Winemaking & Élevage
We adopted the non-standard practice of air-drying the grapes post-harvest. The extremely mild climate of the Santa Maria Valley allowed us to dry the grapes al fresco in situ, gently placing the grapes on paper trays in the shade of the vine canopy. The intent was not so much to dehydrate the grapes, but rather to lignify the stems, in other words, turning them from slightly herbaceous ‘green’ to sturdy, puissant, costaud brown. The vitaceous equivalent of lead in the pencil, as it were. We experimented with both punching down and pumping over, and found, more immediate access to the wine through pumping over (possibly through greater exposure to oxygen) but ultimately a more complete and complex extraction with punching down.
Tasting Notes
It is an established tradition, at least in CôteRôtie, to co-ferment Viognier with Syrah. This is said to enhance the aromatic potential, colour stability and structure of the wine. The Viognier has added a unique floral note to the otherwise peppery Syrah. It is important to note that the Santa Maria Valley is one of the climatically coolest sites in California where Syrah can be successfully grown, and enjoys perhaps the longest season. The Language of Yes project is not intended to try to slavishly replicate the wines of Southern France, but rather to seek to find and amplify the unique characteristics of our climats and terroirs in the Central Coast of California. Having said that, there is the most remarkable ‘tastealike’ correspondence between this wine and the Platonic goût de Provence - a singular ubiquitous balsamique (resinous) quality imparted some say by the local underbrush, the garrigue – lavender, rosemary and sage, notably – but perhaps also by proximal pine forest. In any event, the wine is marked by its lively acidity, vivid pepperiness, with strong suggestion of black olive, violets, licorice and white flowers. On the palate, slightly angular immediately upon opening but softening considerably with time. The wine was not filtered and will greatly benefit from decanting and a healthy exposure to air.

Winemaking & Élevage
Grenache is said by some to resemble Pinot Noir, in so far as its need for gentle extraction and susceptibility to oxidation; the variety does not have the ‘density,’ if you will, of more structured varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, thus any edges or flaws (such as astringency or bitterness) tend to stand out in greater relief. Since this vintage was the first time Randall had the pleasure to work with grapes from the Rancho Réal Vineyard, it seemed useful to experiment with different approaches to phenolic extraction. He split the lot of grapes into two and adopted a punchdown regime with one and a pump-over regime with the other. The pump-over tank was initially more expressive than the punchdown one, but ultimately, he felt that the punchdown technique led to more structure and depth in the resultant wine. As with the Syrah, he allowed the Grenache grapes to air dry on paper mats for three days prior to re-collection, with the aim of lignifying stems and allowing the grapes to recompose themselves prior to the onset of fermentation. The wine was aged in larger vessels to minimise the amount of oxygen ingress in its élevage.
Tasting Notes
Medium healthy red colour, with nary a sign of brown at the rim. Nose of strawberry/rhubarb and peach, with a possible suggestion of citrus, viz. blood orange. Definite notes of autumnal spice - cloves, allspice and hints of sandalwood or other scented candle one might find in the boudoir of an ageing hippie. Good volume on the palate: the wine seems to expand with exposure to air in the way that inspirational Pinot/Burgundy sometimes does. Not at all densely tannic, but extremely persistent on the palate. Contradicting all the received wisdom: Grenache is a grape capable of great elegance and complexity (as this wine shows) and one certainly destined to live for many years.
“I’m wanting to push things a little bit further, and make wines that are more soulful, meaningful, and kind of unexpected. That’s what The Language of Yes is about.”

DENNER
DENNER
After traveling the state for years searching for the perfect piece of dirt to grow grapes that would produce highly-acclaimed wines, Ron Denner finally found exactly what he was looking for in the far western reaches of Paso Robles in 1997.
He began planting the first few acres in 1999, which has now grown to a total of 156-acres, consisting of 20 different grape varieties and counting. We designed our estate winery to fit into the rolling hills of the surrounding vineyard — allowing us to exercise only the gentlest touch on the incoming grapes. Through our gravity flow process, we can showcase exactly what the vineyard and the vintage give us and produce wines that are both powerful and finessed.
Our 156 acres press up against the Santa Lucia Range, giving the site great diversity of elevation, aspect and soil. Previously dry farmed barley, the estate is nestled into the Templeton Gap, an East/West corridor
where the marine layer can reach the inland valleys. As a result we receive large diurnal temperature swings without high moisture pressure, giving us a near perfect growing climate.
Today, winemaker Anthony Yount has helped make Denner into one of California’s great wineries through careful vineyard management (including dry-farming and organic practices) and non-interventionist winemaking. In the cellar, Yount takes cues from the old world, working with a percentage of whole-cluster in his Rhone blends, relying on native yeasts for fermentation, and bottling his wines unfined and unfiltered.
All of this is to translate, as faithfully as possible, the terroir of a great site. Denner boasts a patchwork of calcareous clay vineyards soaring to more than 1,000 feet above sea level, producing several Rhone and Bordeaux-style red and white wines, with the estate planted to more than 20 varieties.

DITCH DIGGER RED BLEND PASO ROBLES

Ditch Digger is our acclaimed Rhone-style blend. Like all Denner wine, it is a genuine expression of the vintage and vineyards, but also of the people that work together to make this delicious and complex wine.
Ditch Digger opens with a bouquet of boysenberry, petrichor, salvia, and just a touch of Garam Masala. Dense layers of raspberry, pomegranate, coriander, and Hungarian paprika melt into supple tannins. A striking mineral note drives the lingering finish all the way across the palate.
DIRT WORSHIPPER SYRAH
CALIFORNIA

Dirt Worshipper is Paso Robles
Syrah in all its glory, as demosnstrated by its consistent 95+ point scores from top trade publications. Our vineyards press up against the Santa Lucia Range, giving the site great diversity of elevation, aspect and soil, and a near perfect growing climate.
Powerful aromas of violets, blueberries, sasparilla, Kalamata olive and wild mint exude from the glass. The midpalate is dripping with blackberry, hoisin, white pepper, spanish chorizo and dark chocolate notes that evolve into a rich mouthfeel and stunningly long finish.
MOTHER OF EXILES BORDEAUX-STYLE RED BLEND

Mother of Exiles epitomises the outstanding quality of Bordeaux varietals that Paso Robles produces. Nestled into the Templeton Gap, the estate receives large diurnal temperature swings without high moisture pressure, allowing us to produce the quality fruit Denner is known for harvest after harvest.
Seductive aromas of violet, graphite, humidor, and new Italian leather explode from the Mother of Exiles. Wildly complex notes of blueberry, game, sandalwood, and dark chocolate give way to perfectly endowed tannins on the persistently hedonistic finish.

MASSICAN
Italian in heritage and exuberant in expression
MASSICAN
Winemaker Dan Petroski founded Massican in 2009 as Napa’s ‘only white wine winery,’ a title it retains today.
Petroski makes ‘Mediterranean’ wines, which refers to not only their style (highacid, floral, salty) but their ambition: to grace tables, not stock cellars. Dan started Massican to make “wines that you can put on the table at the peak of summer when you’re eating dinner outside with your friends and family.” He was just a few years removed from a late-career shift from media into wine, a “big swing” that landed him in the cellar of Valle dell’Acate in Sicily, then a harvest internship at DuMol, which, in turn, led to a job at Larkmead in 2006 working with then-winemaker Andy Smith to refresh the historic estate. When Smith left in 2012, Dan became Larkmead’s head winemaker, overseeing the winery’s transition into lowintervention winemaking and increasing its focus on vineyard-designate wines.
It was in his early days at Larkmead that Dan was introduced to old vines of Tocai Friulano on the estate, and with the 2009 vintage, he started Massican with an opening salvo of 400 cases, a RibollaFriulano-based-blend - not exactly standard Napa fare. Over the next several years, Dan moonlit as Massican’s auteur while taking Larkmead from strength to strength, and this ability to straddle two worldspositing Napa’s future while simultaneously caretaking its historical legacy - inspired the San Francisco Chronicle to name him “Winemaker of the Year” in 2017. In 2022, Dan left Larkmead to focus on Massican full-time.
I’m nearly fifteen years since its founding, Massican has become more than a white wine winery; it’s an entry point to conversations about sustainability, transparency, and the democratization of top California wine. But this is only possible if the wines are good…and they are. The grapes may not be obvious, but the intention is clear because Massican is rooted in the personal, an extension of its founder: Italian in heritage and exuberant in expression; casually elegant wines built for the table and, perhaps, a bowl of brined olives.

GEMINA WHITE BLEND CALIFORNIA

Gemina is the name of an ancient Roman grape planted in the region around the Massican hills of southern Italy. This grape variety originates from Greece, dating back to the first century when it was first called Aminea Gemina.
Gemina is a unique, white wine blend combining grapes originally from the south of Italy and now planted here in California. This blend balances our winery’s familial history in the south of Italy with our passion for the fresh white wines of the Mediterranean.
ANNIA WHITE BLEND NAPA VALLEY

Our flagship white wine blend is sourced from small vineyards around the Napa Valley. Annia is fresh and subtle and fulfills the promise set forth years ago to bottle memorable white wines unique among the wines of California.
The three grape varietals, Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Chardonnay, are harvested separately and fermented independently in French Oak and stainless steel tanks until blending six weeks before bottling. The Tocai and Ribolla build the aroma and flavor profile of the wine, while the Chardonnay adds to the wine’s structure.
HYDE CHARDONNAY HYDE
VINEYARD CALIFORNIA

We are proud to source the grapes for this wine from Hyde Vineyard, one of California’s most famous and historic Chardonnay vineyards, founded by Larry Hyde in Carneros in 1979.
Tucked away in the southern part of Napa Valley, the entire estate is a gorgeous expanse of rolling hills with southeast exposure and saline morning fog. The parcel of Musque clone of Chardonnay that makes up this bottling was planted in 1992. The wine is fermented and aged in French Oak, then bottled as this single-vineyard wine.

MOUNT PEAK WINERY
Wines of Intensity and Distinction
MOUNT PEAK WINERY
Our story begins more than a century ago, culminating with the revival of Mount Peak Winery, one of California’s few remaining ghost wineries. Honouring this great place felt significant and deeply personal to winemaker Mark Williams. He set out to create wines that pay tribute to the extraordinary beauty of the ghost winery and to capture its prevailing spirit – the capacity to withstand the forces of time.
Surrounding Mount Peak Winery are the red rugged hills of Monte Rosso Vineyard where brilliant, iron rich soil is set against a backdrop of piercing blue skies. When Mark first visited the property in 2006, he had just a handful of vintages under his belt, but he knew he was encountering something special. He had started his winemaking career in California’s flat and fertile Central Valley, where he grew up amongst grapevines and learned about the craft from his viticulturalist father.
Striding the vineyard rows, Mark came upon Mount Peak Winery and resolved to make wines that embody the soul of the ghost winery’s storied past and the essence of its spectacular surroundings. He uses these elements to act as his muse, building upon Monte Rosso Vineyard as a fruit source and finding other vineyards that inspire him in the same way.
Mount Peak Winery wines are named for vineyard blocks near the ghost winery. Sentinel Cabernet Sauvignon, denotes the shield-shaped block marking the vineyard’s entrance, occupying the space between earth and sky. Rattlesnake Zinfandel pays homage to the snakes that sun themselves at the vineyard’s highest point. Gravity Red Blend is named for a remote block where grapevines cling to a steep slope terminating at the mouth of a canyon. Inspired by this celebrated setting, our portfolio of wines is a tribute to California’s fabled winemaking history and the vineyards where they are grown.

Rattlesnake Zinfandel is a tribute to the Rattlesnake Block, the highest point of the Monte Rosso Vineyard. It’s famous for the rattlesnakes living among the vines, seeking sunshine by day and warmth in the vines at night. The 2020 vintage is marked by an aromatic bouquet of dark chocolate, orange peel, raspberry tart, star anise, clove and white pepper. The juicy palate unveils notes of red plum, black cherry and licorice root with a dash of cinnamon on the finish. This full-bodied Zinfandel is well balanced, boasting fresh acidity and refined tannins which carry the fruit and spice tones through the long lasting, toasty finish.
Viticulture Notes
This wine is crafted entirely from the historic Monte Rosso Vineyard, offering exceptional fruit with incredible concentration. The 2020 vintage was a challenging year. Warm dry spring conditions led to early budbreak and a slight reduction in crop size. The typical diurnal temperature swings kicked in, and we did not see any prolonged heat spikes until late in the season. We began picking in late September and finished during the first week of October.
Winemaking Notes
We gave the grapes a two- to three-day cold soak to extract the desired foundation for colour, flavour and structure. Fermentation took place in open-top tanks with up to 14 days of maceration time. All lots were aged separately until the blend was assembled and returned to barrel for flavours to integrate. Total barrel aging was 15 months in 42% new oak (34% French, 8% American), with the balance aging in neutral barrels.

Our Gravity Red Blend is named for a remote, hard-to-reach block on our historic Monte Rosso Vineyard, where Petite Sirah vines cling to a steep slope on the edge of a canyon. Vintage 2019 opens with aromas of baked blueberry, freshly brewed coffee and dried apricot. The concentrated and multifaceted palate adds notes of acai berry, dark plum, cocoa powder and underpinnings of tar and cracked pepper. Lengthy and well-structured, supported by fine, but firm, tannins.
Viticulture Notes
Comprised of estate fruit from Monte Rosso Vineyard, Snows Lake Vineyard and Stagecoach Vineyard, our Gravity Red Blend offers exceptional concentration and depth. The 2019 growing season was warm and evenly paced, offering ideal growing conditions. Winter rain led to a cool spring, which delayed budbreak. Late May delivered more rain but by June, warm, steady temperatures delivered consistent warmth that encouraged canopy growth and allowed the fruit to ripen gradually. Harvest 2019 produced low yields of small berries packed with rich, complex flavour characteristics.

Our Sentinel Cabernet Sauvignon is named for the shield-shaped block that casts a watchful eye over the entrance to Monte Rosso Vineyard. Sentinel opens with aromas of dense, dark fruit, crème de cassis and bay laurel. Sentinel is rich and full-bodied, offering hints of blackcurrant, blueberry, and black cherry with layers of soft leather and wood smoke. The wine’s acidity and tannins are in perfect balance adding texture and depth on the smooth, layered palate, finishing with suggestions of ripe wild blackberry.

“I wanted to be part of Mount Peak because I am truly inspired by the vineyard. And because Monte Rosso is a major source, but not the only source of fruit for Mount Peak, I’m not bound to its confines. I can find the best vineyards for each varietal as conditions change vintage to vintage, depending on what we need to make those big, forceful wines.”
