The dedication of the individuals who serve our community does not go unnoticed. They are the heartbeat of our local government. They work to ensure our community is a thriving, family-friendly, safe, and enjoyable place to live, work, and play. As we observe Public Service Recognition Week, it is my privilege to shine a light on their invaluable contributions.

Our employees are the friendly faces at city hall who assist with permits, licenses, and bill payments. They are the dedicated employees who maintain our streets and parks. They are the hard-working men and women who respond to emergencies. They are the knowledgeable individuals who keep our water flowing They are the caring staff who find loving homes for animals. They are the ones planning our amazing events and recreation opportunities. They are the ones that make sure we hire and retain other great employees. Our public servants touch every aspect of our daily lives.

These individuals are our neighbors, friends, and family members They work behind the scenes to ensure that our city runs smoothly and efficiently. They embody the spirit of service and work together to build a better community for today and tomorrow. Their commitment to public service is not just a job It is a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those they serve.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we want the community to know that we are dedicated to supporting the safety needs of those individuals who are struggling with suicide, and mental health emergencies. As mental health is a complex issue that often requires a variety of professionals to support long-lasting healthy outcomes, our agency partners with with local healthcare providers, the SAFE TEAM, schools, and not-for-profit organizations that make counseling and drug/alcohol abuse services accessible to those we contact. And, our cross-trained Public Safety Officers complete specialized training in strategic communication and deescalation-crisis intervention techniques.

To honor the importance of mental health awareness as an integral part of helping those who struggle with suicide, we have adopted the Green Patch as a symbol of our commitment to protecting those in a mental health crisis.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please always call 911 for emergencies.

To connect to the Safe Team for non-emergency situations, please get in touch with the non-emergency line at (707) 584-2612

LYDIAPARKPLAYGROUND RENOVATIONPROJECT

We’re excited to announce the completion of the Lydia Park Playground Renovation Project!

The new playground was installed with funding made possible by the Parks and Water Bond Act of 2018's (Prop 68) Per Capita Program. The $204,598 grant was coupled with a 25% funding match by the City. The over $250,000 renovation project has revitalized this cherished community space in L Section.

Lydia Park, located at 541 Lydia Court South, is a beloved mini-park nestled in the heart of L Section and has long been a gathering place for residents. Over the years, the park faced challenges as pieces of old playground equipment were removed due to safety concerns and not replaced due to funding limitations. However, the community's spirit remained resilient, with residents maintaining the Community Garden on site and bringing out their own play equipment to ensure the park remained a vibrant hub for play and interaction

Recognizing the importance of preserving and enhancing community spaces, the City Council supported the recommendation to allocate funds from the Per Capita Program to improve Lydia Park. After conducting a comprehensive community outreach survey in 2021 to gauge residents' preferences, the renovation project began in September 2023.

"I am delighted to announce the completion of the Lydia Park Playground Renovation Project. This project exemplifies our commitment to fostering a fun, safe, and vibrant community environment where families can come together to play and connect. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to making this project a reality, ensuring that Lydia Park remains a cherished gathering place for generations to come," said Mayor Susan Adams.

Although the project initially faced budgetary constraints, resulting in the removal of swings and shade from the design, the City prioritized retaining the most essential amenities while ensuring compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Future phases of the renovation will include the addition of swings and educational signage about the Laguna de Santa Rosa, further enriching the park experience for visitors of all ages.
