A New Wave is Coming to Jupiter
By Ryer Gardenswartz
The Jupiter Hammerheads are entering 2023 with a new look, a new team, and a new manager at the helm. Not to mention new promos, events, and fun all coming to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium this summer.
Jupiter will have a new on-field look when they first take the field on April 6th with new home, away, and alternate jerseys. The uniform facelift reintroduces red into the color scheme as a homage to the iconic Jupiter Lighthouse and to better represent the Miami Marlins. Jupiter will also have new pants with matching red and blue piping this upcoming season.
The block Hammerheads font will continue to don the white home uniforms with a red and blue outline. On the road greys, a new official Jupiter logo will be across the chest. The new wordmark comes from the club’s existing primary logo, with a new color scheme and an emphasis on the fishhook J. The Hammerheads will no longer sport a black alternate jersey as they shift to an all-blue jersey. The Marlins wear all-blue tops during Spring Training at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, and now the future fish will too.
In these new uniforms will be a new squad for the Hammerheads. With plenty of familiar faces returning to the Hammerheads, there will also be some new names to learn as they make their way to the big leagues. The 2023 roster is led by four players in the Marlins Top-30 Prospect List according to MLB Pipeline. Leading the charge is Jacob Miller, the No. 8 overall prospect. The right-handed pitcher is known for his fastball that touches 97 MPH. The 2022 2nd round draft selection played just one game

for Jupiter at the end of last season. Ian Lewis, the Marlins No. 15 prospect, is also slated to play for the Hammerheads again. The middle infielder played in 51 games before an injury cut his 2022 season short. Joining Miller on the mound will be Marlins’ No. 16 prospect Karson Milbrandt. Like Miller, Milbrandt also made one start for Jupiter at the end of last season and was a member for the 2022 draft class going in the 3rd round. The righty also has zip to his fastball and some of the best fastball spin rates from the 2022 prep class. Finally, Cody Morissette is tabbed to join the team at the beginning of the season as he rehabs a prior injury. The Boston College alum played for the Hammerheads in 2021 after being drafted by the Marlins in the second round.
Along with a fresh roster, there will be a new manager at the helm for the Hammerheads as Nelson Prada takes over. Prada is no stranger to the Florida State League, having both played and managed in the circuit. Jupiter’s newest skipper played 41 games with the Fort Myers Miracle as a 22-year-old catcher in 1998. Prada then returned to the FSL, serving as the manager for the Clearwater Threshers in 2014. In 2021, Prada joined the Marlins organization and became the hitting coach for the DSL Marlins before being promoted to manager last season. Beyond affiliated baseball, Prada also managed the Spanish national team in the 2021 European Championship. Spain went undefeated in their group and eventually earned third place in the international tournament. Prada also had a role with the national team during the 2022 World Baseball qualifiers that took place in Regensburg, Germany.

Manager Nelson Prada
New at the helm this year for the Jupiter Hammerheads is Manager Nelson Prada. Prada joined the Marlins organization in 2021 as the hitting coach for the DSL Marlins before being promoted to manager last season.
He’s no stranger to the FSL, previously serving as manager for the Clearwater Threshers in 2014.
Pitching Coach Glenn Dishman
Glenn Dishman will once again serve as the Pitching Coach for the Hammerheads. This will be his second season within the Marlins organization. In 2021, the former MLB pitcher was coaching in the MLB Draft League for the Frederick Keys in their inaugural season. Dishman played professionally for 11-seasons after being signed by the San Diego Padres in 1993 from Texas Christian University (TCU). Dishman appeared in 33 total games for the Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, and Detroit Tigers after making his debut with San Deigo in 1995.
Hitting Coach Ty Hawkins
Returning to the Hammerheads for his third season is Hitting Coach, Ty Hawkins. Before joining Jupiter in 2021, the Old Dominion alum spent over two decades coaching within the New York Yankees organization. Hawkins also coached collegiately with Vanderbilt University and the University of Illinois before joining affiliated baseball. aHawek
Defensive Coach Nathan Mikolas
Another familiar face returning to the Hammerheads for his second season is Defensive Coach, Nathan Mikolas. Before joining Jupiter, Mikolas worked in the same role with the FCL Marlins. The former outfielder was a third-round draft pick by the New York Yankees and played from 2012-2016 within their farm system.
Athletic Trainer Jessica Cook
New to the Hammerheads but not to the Marlins’ organization is Athletic Trainer, Jessica Cook. Before the Hammerheads, Cook worked with the Beloit Sky Carp, the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins. She previously served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of North Georgia, where she graduated with a master’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
Strength & Conditioning Jeremiah Cothiere
Also new to the Hammerheads this season is Strength and Conditioning coach, Jeremiah Cothiere. No stranger to the Jupiter area, Cothiere grew up in Boynton Beach and is a former player for the Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team.

The Next Generation of Stars
By Reece Weiner
The Palm Beach Cardinals have taken pride in being one of the first stops for prospects on their journey to the Major Leagues. In recent years, these prospects have included MLB top 100 prospects (according to MLB Pipeline) Jordan Walker, Masyn Winn, Tink Hence, and Gordon Graceffo. They’ve also hosted big leaguers like Lars Nootbaar, Dylan Carlson, Ryan Helsley, and many more.
Now, it’s time for the next wave of players to get their start. The Opening Day roster includes six of the Cardinals top 30 prospects (also according to MLB Pipeline). Beyond these six, Palm Beach also has a lot of recent draft selections and international signings looking to leave their mark.
The top prospect on the team is catcher Leonardo Bernal who finds himself just outside the top ten, as the 11th prospect in the organization. The Panama native spent last season with Palm Beach, hitting seven homers with a .256 average over 45 games, and defensively he caught 11 runners stealing. The teenager was signed as an International free agent in 2020 and will look to continue making his way up the organization.
The 12th ranked prospect for the Cardinals is outfielder Joshua Baez. The second rounder in 2021 looks to bounce back from an injury plagued season with Palm Beach last season. Baez will look to get back on track with his great potential as a hitter, but also with his glove and strong arm.
The highest pitching prospect for Palm Beach is Brycen Mautz. The University of San Diego product was taken in the second round of the 2022 draft. The southpaw has yet to see professional action but is looking
26 CARDINALS 2023
Leonardo Bernal
to build off a strong finish to his collegiate career that featured a 3.87 ERA and 129 strikeouts, as well as an impressive start against Vanderbilt, allowing 1 run in 7 innings, in the NCAA regionals in his final season.
Pete Hanson is another high pitching prospect taken in the 2022 draft. He too will be seeing his first professional action this season with Palm Beach. The Texas product features a low-90s fastball that he mixes with an off-speed combo of slider, curveball, and changeup. The southpaw will look to begin his development in transitioning to the next level.
The final top 30 pitching prospect is Max Rajcic. He too was taken in the 2022 draft and will be making his professional debut. The UCLA starter posted a 3.28 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 85 innings last season. The 21-yearold will look to develop his arsenal that features great off-speed pitches.
Closing off the list of Palm Beach Cardinals is outfielder Won-Bin Cho, the 22nd prospect. The Korean native shows great potential as a left-handed hitter. The teenager will look to bounce back from injuries that limited him last season in the Florida Complex League, and will take the step up to the Palm Beach Cardinals.
The depth of the Palm Beach roster goes well beyond this list, with a handful of young prospects that will look to start their journey to the Majors, much like those before them.

CARDINALS COACHING2023
Manager Gary Kendall
Gary Kendall is entering his second season as Manager of the Palm Beach Cardinals and his 18th season as a Minor League Manager. He previously spent 16 seasons throughout the Baltimore Orioles Organization, making it as high as the Manager of the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.
Kendall will look to continue his success from last season, after leading Palm Beach to its first playoff appearance since 2018.
Hitting Coach Willi Martin
This will be Willi Martin’s first season as the Hitting Coach of the Palm Beach Cardinals. Martin worked closely with the United Shore Professional Baseball League in multiple roles before entering the Cardinals organization. The Liberty University alum worked the same position with the Peoria Chiefs, High-A Cardinals affiliate, before joining the Palm Beach staff.
Pitching Coach Giovanni Carrara
Giovanni Carrara is also returning for his second season with the Palm Beach Cardinals. Previously, the Venezuelan spent 11 seasons in the Majors, pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Seattle Mariners.
Coach Bernard Gilkey
Bernard Gilkey is spending his first season with Palm Beach as a Coach. The former Major Leaguer spent six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals before also joining the New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves. The St. Louis native also made a cameo in Men in Black where he is the Mets outfielder looking up at the spacecraft.
Athletic Trainor Jeff Case
Jeff Case is returning as the team’s Athletic Trainor. The graduate of Missouri State University has been a part of the Cardinals organization since 2020.
Strength and Conditioning Coach Campbell Quirk
Campbell Quirk, a former collegiate baseball player at Monmouth College, is also returning for another season as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Palm Beach Cardinals.
Affiliate Fellow Manaul Santamaria
Manaul Santamaria will serve as the team’s Affiliate Fellow, where he will manage all aspects of video and technology for the club.
