Welcome from the Head
Every day at Roedean, I have the privilege of witnessing the remarkable moments when our girls begin to understand who they are and imagine who they might become. Whether stepping into an unexpected leadership role or discovering a new passion, it is deeply rewarding to see that first spark of confidence and watch it grow.
I am proud to lead this global community, where students learn from one another through the richness of different voices, cultures, and perspectives. At Roedean, every girl is known, encouraged to take risks, to explore new opportunities, and to thrive, both in the classroom and far beyond. Our girls are not only heard; they are truly seen.
And then there is the spectacular view, a daily reminder of the vast horizons ahead, and of the limitless potential within each student.
My purpose is to ensure that a Roedean education instils a strong sense of self, where every girl is happy, recognises her worth, believes in her voice, and is ready to shape the world with confidence and purpose. Being part of that journey is one of the most inspiring aspects of my role.
It is an honour to be the Head of Roedean, and a privilege to introduce you to our extraordinary school.
‘A creative, diverse and progressive all-girls school in stunning surroundings with sensational facilities, strong academic results and a holistic and nurturing ethos.’

Mrs Niamh Green Head of Roedean
Girls First
At Roedean, the power of an all-girls’ education lies in its ability to foster confidence, curiosity, and leadership in a nurturing environment where every voice is heard and every ambition encouraged.
Since Roedean’s foundation in 1885, a bold vision for girls’ education has been at the heart of everything we do. Our founders, the pioneering Lawrence sisters, believed passionately that girls deserved the same academically rigorous education as their male peers, one that would prepare them for university, while also nurturing their physical wellbeing and connection to the natural world. And so Roedean was born, with cricket on the curriculum and Oxbridge on the horizon.
More than a century later, that spirit of ambition and innovation continues to define us. Roedean remains a beacon of excellence in girls’ education
and is a place where students are empowered to thrive in an environment designed exclusively for them. Here, girls are given the freedom to discover who they are, supported through the most formative years of their lives, and encouraged to aim high in every area of their development.
Our dedicated approach allows us to tailor each student’s educational experience to help her achieve her full potential, academically, socially, and personally. We offer a space where girls can grow in confidence, lead with integrity, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
‘An all-girls’ education is synonymous with an education to become a strong, independent, resilient young woman ready to face the world – whilst providing a safe space for girls as they experience the most important years in their development.’
Niamh Green, Head of Roedean
‘I love that the teacher always helps you when you don’t understand. I’m not afraid to ask questions because I know no one is going to judge me and I love that everyone participates.’

Empowering Academic Excellence
Lessons are lively and engaging, with a focus on opportunities for discussion and collaboration.
At Roedean, we believe that strong academic foundations are essential for future success, and our commitment to excellence underpins every aspect of our teaching and learning. The Key Stage 3 curriculum offers a broad and balanced education, with equal emphasis placed on Languages, Sciences, the Arts, and Mathematics. With over 20 subjects timetabled each week, students develop a versatile skillset rooted in critical thinking, creativity, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
Small class sizes and passionate subject specialists ensure that each student receives the individual attention they need to thrive. Our lessons are dynamic and interactive, encouraging students to ask questions, take intellectual risks, and share ideas
confidently. This approach fosters not only academic progress, but also a spirit of curiosity, collaboration and mutual respect.
Academic success at Roedean is not solely measured by outstanding results, though our students consistently excel, it is defined by the depth and breadth of opportunity available. Our curriculum challenges and inspires, enriching the learning experience and preparing students to flourish at top universities in the UK and around the world.
‘Pupils are wellprepared for future academic and personal challenges, equipped with a strong foundation of emotional, intellectual, and creative skills.’

Encouraging Growth through Pastoral Care
At the heart of our Roedean community, our pastoral care encourages each of our girls to thrive with confidence, compassion, and resilience.
At Roedean, it is important to us that every student feels they truly matter and that they belong. We are committed to ensuring that all our students are seen, known, and heard, creating an inclusive and supportive environment where individual care, encouragement, and leadership opportunities are woven into daily life.
Our pastoral care extends seamlessly across both academic and boarding life. A dedicated team of Pastoral Managers is also available each day to offer guidance, reassurance, and practical support. Whether it is navigating friendships, balancing workloads, or simply needing someone to talk to, our students know they are surrounded by a strong and caring network.
We firmly believe that when students are emotionally supported, they thrive
academically. That is why wellbeing is embedded into every aspect of life at Roedean. Listening is central to our ethos, and through a strong commitment to ‘Student Voice’, we encourage girls to share their thoughts and ideas, ensuring they play an active and meaningful role in shaping the school community.
Wellbeing is also reflected in the rhythm of everyday life. Mealtimes are a cherished part of the day, with healthy, varied options that cater to every taste. These shared moments foster a sense of connection and belonging that enriches the wider school experience.
This culture of care is strengthened by our vibrant Parents’ Guild and a global network of Old Roedeanians, all deeply invested in the happiness and success of our girls. Together, this extended
community also helps to nurture each individual, ensuring that every student leaves Roedean with the confidence to embrace life’s opportunities and challenges with courage and purpose.
‘Pupils are broadminded, embrace diversity, and have a clear sense of social awareness and responsibility.’
Engaging in Co-Curricular Learning
Our extensive Co-Curricular programme enriches personal development, broadens skills and nurtures talents beyond the classroom.
The Co-Curricular Programme is an integral part of the Roedean experience, enriching both the academic and pastoral life of the school. It offers an exceptional breadth of opportunities, allowing every student to pursue her interests, whether in physical activity, creative expression, community service, leadership in societies, or STEM innovation.
The scope and quality of our co-curricular provision has long been one of Roedean’s defining strengths. Our commitment to a holistic education is reflected in the structure of each student’s day, with two dedicated activity periods built into the timetable. Each term, girls are encouraged to shape their own journey, whether by developing an existing passion, exploring new academic areas, trying a completely unfamiliar activity, or giving back to the wider community. From refining a skill to uncovering a hidden talent, the possibilities are both exciting and empowering.
To support this journey of exploration and growth, we have introduced the Roedean Junior Diploma. This initiative engages students across a diverse spectrum of experiences and helps them to track their progress, reflect on their development, and recognise the broad range of skills they are building along the way.
Whether on the sports field, in the theatre, behind an easel, or in a science lab, there are endless ways for Roedean students to shine. With over 140 activities on offer, there truly is something for everyone.
Life as a Boarder
House life is at the heart of the Roedean experience, fostering a strong sense of belonging and community from the moment a student arrives. Each House has its own unique ethos, traditions, and character, creating smaller supportive communities within the wider school.
Throughout the week, around 300 students enjoy the ideal balance between school life and the rich experience of boarding at Roedean. Evenings are filled with opportunities to relax, have fun, and build lasting friendships through a wide variety of house activities. From baking and quizzes to dance competitions, bingo,
and more, if the girls can imagine it, the House staff will do their best to bring it to life. A dedicated Prep hour each evening also supports academic progress, helping students to develop strong study habits and time management skills.
Over 220 students remain on-site as full boarders over the weekends, and the energy continues with a packed programme of activities. Whether it’s shopping trips, trampolining, go-karting, crafting, baking, or excursions to London, weekends at Roedean are as dynamic as they are enjoyable. There’s always something to look forward to, with plenty of
