Aging Life Care Solutions HELPS CHILDREN HELP THEIR PARENTS

By Loretta Taylor When the time comes to find help for aging parents, the team at Aging Life Care Solutions is here to answer your questions and help you find solutions to the challenges of growing older. A client shares her testimony here. What were the circumstances that led you to contact Aging Life Care Solutions? My brother and I needed help. Yes, our parents had done exceptionally well, but they were now 89 and 91 years old. Until just the last few years they were reasonably self-sufficient. Then their needs began to change considerably. More signs of dementia, personality changes and physical inabilities – all of these factors led my brother and me to an elder care attorney. It was in this office that my brother and I, with our two daughters, were introduced to Aging Life Care Solutions nurses Debbie Kitchen and Billie May. They immediately shared with us an understanding of the dilemmas and concerns we had for our parents. Little did we know at that time that these two nurses from Aging Life Care Solutions would become vital to our success with the best care for our parents and also become good friends! Why did you choose Aging Life Care Solutions? Upon arriving at our parents’ house for the very first time, these two experienced nurses developed a friendly bond with our parents. Our parents loved their beautiful home and their mountain heritage. Debbie and Billie were superior listeners and encouraged our parents to talk about their past and home. Our parents were excited to show them around their house and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Getting a chance to view their home also aided Billie and Debbie’s awareness of modifications to the house that might help with our parents’ safety. Probably the most important reason we chose Aging Life Care Solutions over other agencies was the character and sincerity of Debbie and Billie. How did Aging Life Care Solutions help you and your parents? My brother and I both live in Florida in the winter; we are retired. Our children live in Lexington and help us while we are in Florida. The problem is our children are still working and if either of our parents were hospitalized or needed to go to the doctor during the day, we would need someone to go to the hospital with them until either my brother or I could fly back

from Florida. On two different occasions while we were in Florida, our parents did have to go to the hospital. The grandchildren stayed with them as long as possible, but they needed to get back to work. Aging Life Care Solutions took over and stayed at the hospital with them. They had the authority through the paperwork we had signed to share all information from the doctor with the family and give updates until my arrival back to Lexington from Florida. What a blessing! Aging Life Care Solutions’ nurses started coming to visit my parents every week. These visits were happy times for my parents, who enjoyed the conversations. The visits also provided the nurses with valuable interactions, assisting in their discovery of our parents’ changing physical and emotional needs. The nurses managed all their medications. Medications can be a real problem for the caregiver of a loved one with dementia. It can only be administered by a family member, nurse or other authorized person. Our parents by this time were unable to administer the medications to themselves due to their dementia. This was a real important service to the family. Often medications can be a source of conflict between loved ones and family members. Aging Life Care Solutions shared our parents’ possible needs or changes to their care plan with us each week. It was wonderful having a
