ParadoxPi π “Time Is An Illusion.” —Albert Einstein Illusion: A thing that is or is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted by the senses. Paradox: A statetment or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth; kind of like Time. Kind of like our circle - our life. Pi: i is the ratio of a circle. (Math) There are several formulae that use the Fibonacci numbers to compute Pi (π). The Fibonacci numbers are Nature’s numbering system. They appear everywhere in Nature, from the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pinecone, or the scales of a pineapple. The Fibonacci numbers are therefore applicable to the growth of every living thing, including a single cell, a grain of wheat, a hive of bees, and even all of mankind. The circle is similar to that which we close ourselves into - our life; the way we choose to live our life. Further, a series of lifetimes through reincarnation can be part of the tapestry of our circle. Pi (π) is an irrational number, a transcendental number, a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle approximated as 3.14159265359 which reduces to 8. Equivalently, its decimal representation never ends and never starts like infinity ∞ or, as Rory Gallagher said, “Music doesn’t end and it doesn’t start, it is with you all the time.” It is the same with a visual artist; it is a life style. Pi (Math) ‘simply’ put, is your circle; your allotted time. The uniform flow of time may indeed be an illusion. Perhaps all of time, like all of space, really does exist all around us and all at once. The passage of time may be a paradoxical illusion to help us make sense of our entrapment within physical clothes. Those who have returned home - to Spirit, may indeed be able to adopt a higher viewpoint, to see both future and past. But furthermore they, and we, may be able to alter them. Ron now pays a long-overdue tribute to the musical genius of John Lennon. Picture this: The year is 1974 and you’ve just gotten off the road with Lionel Hampton. The phone rings, and on the other end of the line is an old buddy of yours. After a little small talk, he asks if you’re available for a recording session. You indicate that you’re free and ask him about the session. That’s when he tells you, nonchalantly, that it’s for John Lennon.

That little episode may sound like it’s coming straight out of some fictitious film script, but it’s actually biographical in nature. It’s part of Ron Aprea’s story, and his is a story that deserves to be told. Excerpt from: AllAboutJazz.com and RonArpea.com

During a break, I went into a small room at Record Plant to copy some lead sheets. Lennon entered and walked over to the copy machine that I was using. Without a pause, Lennon bent over and, still wearing his eyeglasses, put his face on the glass plate on the copier, and hit the “Copy” button. Two blinding lights later, two copies of John’s smiling face, with a slightly flattened nose, came sliding out. My first thought was, this guy’s gonna go blind. John then straightens up, smiles, and says, “Hang on to this (photostat) cause some day it’ll be worth a lot of money.” I rolled it up and stuck it in my instrument case. Given the pressure of the recording itself, the photostat seemed pretty insignificant at the time. I could not know then that it would become one of my most cherished possessions. It’s been framed and hanging on my wall since 1974. I also saved copies of the lead sheets that I was duplicating when John pulled his stunt. They’re pretty funny, all covered with scribbling. The music looks like a road map, complete with arrows navigating me through a maze of penciled-in notes. And it all worked! After one our multi-track overdubs, complete with lines and counter-lines, Steve cracked, “Man, when those arrangers are sitting around listening to this shit, they’re gonna say, ‘Who wrote those mother f-king charts!’”

Throughout the 1960’s, Rock ‘n’ Roll went from being disposable teenage pap to becoming a legitimate art form, if you can call thinly-veiled drug references set to fake sitars art. Crowded between the mass marketed top-forty fluff and pretentious psychadelia, a few players were venturing beyond the sacred threechord trinity and developing some serious chops. The Zombies’ keyboardist Rod Argent incorporated credibly jazz-inspired licks to his solo on 1964’s classic “She’s Not There,” and Jimi Hendrix took elements of blues and free jazz and melded them together into a blistering style that still sells Fender Stratocasters to middle-class stoners. Just at that time turmoil within the band began and ultimately everything disintegrated due to money issues and personal differences. Being signed to Atlantic Records may have been a good thing, but maybe not; 25 years later, a HAWK album is at least still being sold by one of the original HAWK artists, Doug Marks, for $7.50–$18.00 each. If Atlantic Records had signed the band, possibly a lot of money/fame/ artistic validation would have happened with HAWK but also possibly no money would have been made for the artists. Elliott Dean Rubinson, owner of Dean Guitars, CEO of Armadillo Enterprises, Luna guitars and Ddrum also played bass for Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Craig Goldy, Vinnie Moore and Michael Angelo. This is an interview re-released originally published with Tempi-Dispari; Rome, Italy and Rock Legend News, Firenze, Italy. ELLIOTT DEAN RUBINSON, left us on February 6, 2017. Amidst all his touring and business constraints a couple years ago, Elliott kept reminding me he would get to the interview, and he did. He took time to answer these questions. RLN: Is there someone who has inspired you more than anyone else and has this affected your approach to music; or what exactly has been your approach to music? Elliott Rubinson: “Growing up I was very inspired by aggressive bass players like Jack Bruce and Tim Bogert. I have always taken a more out front approach’to bass playing and especially loved the high register along with very solid low end to hold the band together and give the guitarist I’m supporting a solid bed to play over. Of course McCartney and guys like Glenn Hughes were always standouts.” RLN: Founded in 1977 and for almost 40 years the Dean brand has been synonymous with rock and metal music. What is the secret to Dean Guitar’s desirability and success? Elliott Rubinson: “The decision to take Dean Guitars to a full line company was the start of its major success. Having entry level guitars and basses as well as high end great playing imports and then of course our USA custom shop has attracted so many players to the brand. We even have great success with bluegrass instruments. Having myself, the CEO out on the road touring with Uli Jon Roth, Vinnie Moore, Michael Schenker, Michael Angelo or Craig Goldy adds a lot of credibility to Dean Guitars.”

RLN: Musicians like Dave Mustaine, Michael Angelo Batio, Brett Michaels and Michael Schenker have had Dean Guitars create a line of music instruments for them because of the tailor-made, quality artisan construction that Dean is known for. Elliott Rubinson: “When an artist decides he wants to play Dean a lot of work goes into the “making” of his line. We work from their favorite instrument taking measurements of neck and body dimensions, pickup output, etc., not to mention specific graphics or paint that we feel will make a statement and compel a fan to go out and buy one. Having our USA custom shop has really made the difference in this process.” RLN: Many fans associate Dean Guitars with Dimebag Darrell who played with ML models and his own original shapes or designs. Can you tell us how your collaboration went with him? Elliott Rubinson: “Dime loved Dean from the time he was 13 or 14. He didn’t have an endorsement but just knew the ML was him. He never stopped playing our shape and the ML was his signature shape. We owe a lot to him because he never wavered. He called me in 2004 to come down to the factory and try to get another formal endorsement. He left that day and started wearing a Dean work shirt and playing a guitar we gave him. In the middle of November he signed a formal deal with us and three weeks later he was slain. What a black day for guitarists around the world. His talent, passion and creativity live on. To this day his signature guitars sell extremely well.” RLN: As a world-class bassist who has toured with Michael Schenker, Michael An-

gelo Batio and Uli Jon Roth what are some of your favorite memories of playing with these musicians? Elliott Rubinson: “I have been so fortunate to play with world class players. Each has their own style and requires something different from me. Uli Jon Roth works with no setlist and plays what he feels. We jam every night on different tunes and do it in a different way each time. I feel jamming is a lost art. Michael Schenker is also a joy to play with and has amazing vibrato, tone and melodic riffs that are instantly identifiable. He is a legend and has written many timeless rock songs. Michael Angelo is a technician and has incredible speed and precision. The intensity and passion of his playing is unreal. Vinnie Moore is another great soulful, bluesy rock player. I really enjoy playing his material and can be quite challenging. Just coming off a tour with Craig Goldy made me really appreciate what he does. His sound, vibrato and riffs were incredible and he can do Blackmore like no one else.” RLN: I want to ask you the same thing I have asked others because it is a profound occurrence now. Why do you think the 80’s are reigniting? I mean, it is like it’s 1985 in Colombia, South America; it is happening here in Italy and it is apparent all over the world that the 80’s and even the 70’s rock styles are becoming enlivened again. Elliott Rubinson: “I think the 80’s are reigniting because people miss this unreal time in music history. Shows were packed, records were selling, everything was extreme and it was a happy time in many people’s lives. Shows now are half full because everything is seen on Youtube and all music of course is simply downloaded. Going to a show then was incredible and I think many would love to go back 30 years to this happy time in music. It was a time of excess and even teens come to our shows wearing Zepp or Beatles shirts. Kids aren’t playing guitars as much as it takes a lot of work and we are in an age of immediate return on investment. Playing in a band is an experience I wish more people could enjoy.” Elliott Rubinson CEO Armadillo Enterprises

Music, architecture and mathematics were strongly linked in the philosophical approach of the life of Renaissance cultured spirits. However Brescian mathematician Tartaglia (1499–1557) published the first Italian translation of Euclid (Linehan 1913). He is known for teaching mathematics and geometry to the craftsmen of his native town of Brescia (Houssay 2008). Therefore it is not surprising that Amati constructed the profile of his violins with a ruler and a compass and without doubt the profile of the violin was not the result of an empirical evolution of the instrument from viola da braccio. Outline violin design of Cremonese instruments was studied by Coates (1985) with four instruments dating from 1564 to 1703, by McLennan (2008) with copies of a Baroques violin and more recently using advanced procedures available with computer science by Stroeker 2010, Mairson 2013 and Muratov (2008). The subject is really of great interest and we have selected only a few examples for comment. The outline of the violin corpus can be included in a big rectangle composed of four identical small rectangles, having edge sizes of the golden ratio showing the possible design of the violin outline using the golden ratio and the Fibonacci numbers. (Fibonacci (1170–240) was an Italian mathematician in Pisa. The Golden ratio is a special number found by dividing a line into two parts so that the longer part divided by the smaller part is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer part. It is often symbolized using phi, after the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet. In an equation form, it looks like this: a/b = (a+b)/a = 1.6180339887498948420 … As with Pi (the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter), the digits go on and on, theoretically into infinity. Phi is usually rounded off to 1.618. This number has been discovered and rediscovered many times, which is why it has so many names — the Golden mean, the Golden section, divine proportion, etc. Historically, the number can be seen in the architecture of many ancient creations, like the Great Pyramids and the Parthenon. In the Great Pyramid of Giza, the length of each side of the base is 756 feet with a height of 481 feet. The ratio of the base to the height is roughly 1.5717, which is close to the Golden ratio. Pi, Phi and Fibonacci Phi (Φ) and pi (Π) and Fibonacci numbers can be related in several ways: The Pi-Phi Product and its derivation through limits, the product of phi and pi, 1.618033988… X 3.141592654…, or 5.083203692 is found in golden geometries:

Another interesting relationship between Pi and Phi is related to the geometry of the Great Pyramid of Giza. This relationship connects dimensions of the Great Pyramid to both Pi and Phi, but it is not known with certainty whether this was an intentional aspect of its design, whether its design was based on Pi or Phi but not both, or whether it is a simple coincidence. In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which the pointlike particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings. It describes how these strings propagate through space and interact with each other. Time hierarchy theorem In computational complexity theory, the time hierarchy theorems are important statements about time-bounded computation on Turing machines. Informally, these theorems say that given more time, a Turing machine can solve more problems. For example, there are problems that can be solved with n2 time but not n time. A Turing machine is an abstract machine that manipulates symbols on a strip of tape according to a table of rules; to be more exact, it is a mathematical model of computation that defines such a device. Despite the model’s simplicity, given any computer algorithm, a Turing machine can be constructed that is capable of simulating that algorithm’s logic. In a given version of string theory, there is only one kind of string, which may look like a small loop or segment of ordinary string, and it can vibrate in different ways. In string theory and related theories such as supergravity theories, a brane is a physical object that generalizes the notion of a point particle to higher dimensions. For example, a point particle can be viewed as a brane of dimension zero, while a string can be viewed as a brane of dimension one. It is also possible to consider higher-dimensional branes. In dimension p, these are called p-branes. The word “brane” comes from the word “membrane” which refers to a two-dimensional brane. Branes are dynamical objects which can propagate through spacetime according to the rules of quantum mechanics. They have mass and can have other attributes such as charge. A p-brane sweeps out a (p+1)-dimensional volume in spacetime called its worldvolume. Physicists often study fields analogous to the electromagnetic field, which live on the worldvolume of a brane. In string theory, D-branes are an important class of branes that arise when one considers open strings. As an open string propagates through spacetime, its endpoints are required to lie on a D-brane. The letter “D” in D-brane refers to a certain mathematical condition on the system known as the Dirichlet boundary condition. The study of D-branes in string theory has led to important results such as the AdS/CFT correspondence, which has shed light on many problems in quantum field theory.

Marks February 8, 2017 Kismet: destiny; fate, as in, “What chance did I stand against kismet?” Essentially KismetPi is a ‘destiny circle.’ For example, a creative soul’s transcendental purpose is to reveal ideas through formats such as art, music, writing or other expressions. The deck of Kismet Playing Cards illustrates the idea that life can seem like a game of chance. You play your deck of cards. However, the game is fixed. Each deck has a certain amount of cards, with a certain amount of symbols that mean specific things played based on that deck of cards’ rules. That deck of cards is a dormant entity that serves its purpose when you play the game. It has meaning and it has purpose. It will never be a hair dryer for example. Well, it could with force... you could put cards together to create a fan. However, it is ‘intended’ to be a specific entity and works best that way; such as fate or destiny or kismet. The simplest way to describe KismetPi is to understand what Kismet and Pi are. Knowing something and understanding something are two vastly different things. Understanding something has much more value because you relate and comprehend it as well as can analyze and look beyond that comprehension.


Empathy helps to understand something to an even greater degree. Artists are usually empathic which is why they are considered ‘overly sensitive.’ They are. This is partly how they are able to almost become that which they ‘connect’ with. • Kismet is destiny; (Spiritual) that which we experience in this lifetime, or any lifetime; that which is considered fixed, predetermined, inescapable. Kismet (destiny) ‘simply’ put, is your life. • Pi is the ratio of a circle. (Math) There are several formulae that use the Fibonacci numbers to compute pi (π). The Fibonacci numbers are Nature’s numbering system. They appear everywhere in nature, from the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pine cone, or the scales of a pineapple. The Fibonacci numbers are therefore applicable to the growth of every living thing, including a single cell, a grain of wheat, a hive of bees, and even all of mankind. The circle is similar to that which we close ourselves into - our life; our Kismet, the way we choose to live our life. Further, a series of lifetimes through reincarnation can be part of the strings that thread together our circle. Pi (π) is an irrational number, a transcendental number, a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle approximated as 3.14159265359 which reduces to 8. Equivalently, its decimal representation never ends and never starts like infinity ∞ or, as Rory


Gallagher said, “Music doesn’t end and it doesn’t start, it is with you all the time.” It is the same with a true visual artist; it is a life style. Pi (Math) ‘simply’ put, is your circle. KismetPi is akin to labyrinth aspects such as a path leading to a center that you cannot exit. A True Labyrinth can at first make you feel a bit disoriented if not lost. But, what happens in a labyrinth is that ultimately a center can be reached. During the journey to the center the constant route can become a type of comfort. But a center point is reached where there is no exit. There are symbols for Kismet and Pi. Symbolism can be scary to some if symbolism isn’t understood. Most things that are scary are so because they are not understood. The more knowledge the less scary life is. Truly, knowledge is power. And, though symbolism goes back to the beginning of time including hieroglyphics, symbols are just that, symbols, or images that express thoughts and ideas. Words have fonts or letters; each font can be considered symbols but symbols are not voodoo or magick even though they can be used as such, and even at that, magick is an art form. Symbols are not taboo - unless you believe so. They are art that a majority (or individual) agrees upon to use to expresses something. What transpires from symbols, or not, comes down to the viewer’s thinking. Art is suggestive, the power of suggestion, which is why advertising is important, for example. Ask any successful business person, “What is the one thing you need to be successful?” They will probably answer, “Good advertising or, promotion; good art;” part of KismetPi, because they are saying they need an artist (as part of their circle) to complete their business ideas; to complete who they are. Advertising can even be considered voodoo or magick since it persuades us to do something; buy. No one needs 90% of what is for sale. You can call it whatever you want or feel comfortable with but symbolism is art; a tool to express. The same applies to math with the word/symbol: Pi (π) or to call destiny a fancy name like Kismet. All of us need tools and symbols to express our ideas, or a sponsors’ ideas. Artists and Musicians may use certain


types of tools in a way that a business person cannot but needs their ideas creatively expressed to build a business. Being appealing to a certain market usually requires an artist’s insight. Tools are used by the artist whether it is with one instrument or ten; effects or none; computers, paints or textiles, recording with state of the art recording equipment or antiquated machines, publishing to vinyl, tape or CD, all aspects of tools express the artists ideas in one way or another which can include their KismetPi. Package something with cool graphics and or music that a particular market appreciates or is familiar with and sell it on Facebook, TV, YouTube, a website or package yourself to appeal to a potential mate. All includes tools and symbols to further express ideas in order to coalesce with something or someone. Interestingly, the less a symbol or work of art is used the more ‘magick’ it has to it because it is the ‘unfamiliar.’ The more something is part of the mainstream the less value it may have even though it could have short term value and even fast financial gains. Thus, there is limited edition art. Fine art. It is easier to get a thousand dollars out of a thousand people than a thousand out of one. But, you risk the principal of cheapening products. It’s a trade off to be evaluated. But your KismetPi may include feeding something to the masses. Transcendental purpose is related to KismetPi. That does not mean it relates to business or art or anything I have mentioned. It simply means, Your Circle of Destiny.

Crowds at the Original Woodstock Music Festival 1969 Facebook is a Virtual Woodstock. A child of the 60s would understand. • There was no official Woodstock merchandise at the Woodstock festival. • During the three days of the Woodstock festival, there were no reported incidents of violence among the half-million people in the audience. • The four-hour film “Woodstock” won the Best Documentary Oscar in 1970. • Richie Havens opened the Woodstock festival, even though he wasn’t scheduled to go on until later in the evening. • Two bands were scheduled to play Woodstock but were unable to make the festival. The Jeff Beck Group (featuring Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, and Aynsley Dunbar) broke up only weeks before the festival. Iron Butterfly were stuck at LaGuardia Airport in New York and couldn’t get to the festival by ground transportation, so they demanded the festival promoters send a helicopter for them. As the story goes, the promoters sent the band’s manager a telegram, the first letter of each line spelling out the words “F*** You.” Iron Butterfly never arrived at the festival. In April 1969, newly minted superstars Creedence Clearwater Revival became the first act to sign a contract for the event, agreeing to play for $10,000. The promoters had experienced difficulty landing big-name groups prior to Creedence committing to play. Creedence drummer Doug Clifford later commented, “Once Creedence signed, everyone else jumped in line and all the other big acts came on.” Given their 3:00 a.m. start time and omission (at Creedence frontman John Fogerty’s insistence) from the Woodstock film, Creedence members have expressed bitterness over their experiences at the famed festival. We were ready to rock out and we waited and waited and finally it was our turn ... there were a half million people asleep. These people were out. It was sort of like a painting of a Dante scene, just bodies from hell, all intertwined and asleep, covered with mud. And this is the moment I will never forget as long as I live: A quarter mile away in the darkness, on the other edge of this bowl, there was some guy flicking his Bic, and in the night I hear, ‘Don’t worry about it, John. Sound

Sound for the concert was engineered by sound engineer Bill Hanley. “It worked very well,” he says of the event. “I built special speaker columns on the hills and had 16 loudspeaker arrays in a square platform going up to the hill on 70-foot (21 m) towers.


We set it up for 150,000 to 200,000 people. Of course, 500,000 showed up.” ALTEC designed marine plywood cabinets that weighed half a ton apiece and stood 6 feet (1.8 m) tall, almost 4 feet (1.2 m) deep, and 3 feet (0.91 m) wide. Each of these enclosures carried four 15-inch (380 mm) JBL D140 loudspeakers. The tweeters consisted of 4×2-Cell & 2×10-Cell Altec Horns. Behind the stage were three transformers providing 2,000 amperes of current to power the amplification setup. For many years this system was collectively referred to as the Woodstock Bins. Declined invitations and missed connections * Bob Dylan, in whose “backyard” the festival was held, was never in serious negotiation. Instead, Dylan signed in mid-July to play the Isle of Wight Festival of Music, on August 31. Dylan set sail for England on Queen Elizabeth 2 on August 15, the day the Woodstock Festival started. His son was injured by a cabin door and the family disembarked. Dylan, with his wife Sara, flew to England the following week. Dylan had been unhappy about the number of hippies piling up outside his house in the nearby town of Woodstock. * The Jeff Beck Group: Jeff Beck disbanded the group prior to Woodstock. “I deliberately broke the group up before Woodstock”, Beck said. “I didn’t want it to be preserved.” Interestingly, it was to have been the first time that Beck would perform with Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice. Also, Beck’s piano player Nicky Hopkins performed with Jefferson Airplane. * The Doors were considered as a potential performing band but canceled at the

last moment. According to guitarist Robby Krieger, they turned it down because they thought it would be a “second class repeat of Monterey Pop Festival” and later regretted that decision. * Led Zeppelin was asked to perform, their manager Peter Grant stated: “We were asked to do Woodstock and Atlantic were very keen, and so was our U.S. promoter, Frank Barsalona. I said no because at Woodstock we’d have just been another band on the bill.” However, the group did play the first Atlanta International Pop Festival on July 5, as one of 22 bands at the two-day event. Woodstock weekend, Zeppelin performed south of the festival at the Asbury Park Convention Hall in New Jersey. Their only time out taken was to attend Elvis Presley’s show at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, on August 12. * The Byrds were invited, but chose not to participate, figuring Woodstock to be no different from any of the other music festivals that summer. There were also concerns about money. As bassist John York remembers: “We were flying to a gig and Roger [McGuinn] came up to us and said that a guy was putting on a festival in upstate New York. But at that point they weren’t paying all of the bands. He asked us if we wanted to do it and we said, ‘No’. We had no idea what it was going to be. We were burned out and tired of the festival scene. So all of us said, ‘No, we want a rest’ and missed the best festival of all.” * Chicago, at the time still known as the Chicago Transit Authority, had initially been signed on to play at Woodstock. However, they had a contract with concert promoter Bill Graham, which allowed him to move Chicago’s concerts at the Fillmore West. He rescheduled some of their dates to August 17, thus forcing the band to back out of the concert. Graham did so to ensure that Santana, which he managed at the time, would take their slot at the festival. According to singer and bassist Peter Cetera, “We were


sort of peeved at him for pulling that one.” * Tommy James and the Shondells declined an invitation. Lead singer Tommy James stated later: “We could have just kicked ourselves. We were in Hawaii, and my secretary called and said, ‘Yeah, listen, there’s this pig farmer in upstate New York that wants you to play in his field.’ That’s how it was put to me. So we passed, and we realized what we’d missed a couple of days later.” * The Moody Blues were included on the original Wallkill poster as performers, but decided to back out after being booked in Paris the same weekend. * Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, according to the Class of the 20th Century U.S. television special, is quoted as saying “A lot of mud at Woodstock ... We were invited to play there, we turned it down.” * Arthur Lee and Love declined the invitation, but Mojo Magazine later described inner turmoil within the band which caused their absence at the Woodstock festival. * Free was asked to perform and declined. * Mind Garage declined because they thought the festival would be no huge deal and they had a higher paying gig elsewhere. * Spirit also declined an invitation to play, as they already had shows planned and wanted to play those instead, not knowing how big Woodstock would be. * Joni Mitchell was originally slated to perform, but canceled at the urging of her manager to avoid missing a scheduled appearance on The Dick Cavett Show. * Lighthouse declined to perform at Woodstock. * Roy Rogers was asked by Lang to close the festival with Happy Trails but he declined. * Procol Harum was invited but refused because Woodstock fell at the end of a long tour and also coincided with the due date of guitarist Robin Trower’s baby. * Jethro Tull also declined. According to frontman Ian Anderson, he knew it would be a big event but he did not want to go because he did not like hippies and other concerns including inappropriate nudity. * Iron Butterfly was booked to appear, and is listed on the Woodstock poster for a Sunday performance, but could not perform because they were stuck at an airport. * Raven – attorney Miles Laurie, one of Michael Lang’s lawyers set up a meeting with Raven manager, Marty Angelo and offered his band a spot on the lineup but only if they signed a contract with Lang to be Raven’s record producer and 10% of future earnings. Raven turned down his offer based on the fact that the year before the band played at one of Woodstock’s “Sound Outs” and the gig didn’t go well. In The Divine Comedy, Virgil leads Dante through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. The poet attains true superhero status in The Life of Virgil, which chronicles all of his fabled exploits. The romance has some resemblance to the The Arabian Nights, and includes outlandish accounts of Virgil’s liaisons with a Sultan’s daughter and his founding of a school of magic in Naples.

LIMBO By Londa R. Marks February 14, 2017 On February 14, 2014, 3 years ago today on my first trip to Italy, I arrived at a temporary rental apartment until I found my home. Like my home is now, that building was also built during the Renaissance. Everything pertaining to being in Italy has happened in surreal fashion; as if I had gone full circle in my life including the first night in Firenze which welcomed me with a dream. In that dream Dante Alighieri hugged me and expressed that I was home. It was comforting how real it felt but strange because I really hadn’t thought about Dante for a couple of years and I came to Firenze to study Lorenzo de’ Medici and the artists he sponsored. Borgo S.S. Apostoli, the location of my temporary apartment is where Piazza del Limbo is, right across the street from where I lived for 3 months; 3 is one of Dante’s favorite numbers. He studied numerology. A couple of days after I arrived someone out of the blue just began telling me about Limbo, once a graveyard for children who died before being baptized and were not allowed to pass the gates of Heaven but ended up there right across the street from my apartment, in Limbo. The little church of Santi Apostoli, is one of the oldest churches of Florence. It was founded by Charlemagne in 786. Dante began The Divine Comedy in 1308, while exiled from his beloved Florence. The pain of this banishment surfaces in his writing, “You shall leave everything you love most, this is the arrow the bow or exile shoots first.” Dante’s Limbo, technically is the first circle of hell. His house is only a few blocks from Piazza del Limbo and a block from the Duomo. I walk by his home regularly as I do in the footprints of those historic ancients, Medieval and Renaissance figures who have inspired so many creative thinkers. A rock is still nearby where he would often sit, write and watch the Duomo being built. An interesting note is that to further his political career, Dante became a pharmacist. On April 1, 2014, I left Limbo and moved into my home, which feels like heaven. The creative vibrations are absolutely recognizable and permeate every cell in your body, mind and soul. My home that with much persistance and resistance from realtors in Firenze indicating that I couldn’t get the apartment I wanted, I got it, and literally by chance I could only get in to see my home on my birthday February 26, 2014. I signed the papers, got the key and got an address I wasn’t expecting but intensely wanted. All by chance, all by passion, and or all by Kismet, KismetPi.

The ankh is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic ideograph with the meaning “life.� The Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest. The ankh appears in hand or in proximity of almost every deity in the Egyptian pantheon (including Pharaohs). Unicode has two characters encoding the symbol, U+2625 in the Miscellaneous Symbols block and U+132F9 in the Egyptian Hieroglyphs block.
