Dear Arts Enthusiast:

Remember the feeling of that special moment when you take your seat in the venue, the lights go down and the curtain slowly rises?

It has been a long time since we have been able to share that experience with you here at Rockefeller Arts Center - 18 months to be precise. The good news that long wait is just about over. We can’t wait to welcome you back!

The 2021-22 Lake Shore Savings Season kicks off in September and it will be a full extravaganza featuring a variety of performing arts events. The following pages are your guide to some of what is coming this year. Get your tickets and get ready for that moment when the curtain goes up.

The front section (pages 4-15) of this guide provides information on the major ticketed events including the Walter Gloor Mainstage shows produced by the department of theatre and dance, the Western New York Chamber Orchestra Classics Series, the DFT Communications Pops Series, the Kaleidoscope Family Series, School of Music special events and major Marion Art Gallery exhibitions.

On pages 16-17, you will find the list of more than 70 free School of Music ensemble concerts and the art exhibitions by students in the department of visual arts and new media.

But even more opportunities await you. For information on additional events on campus, be sure to visit fredonia.edu/events . On this site, you will find a searchable comprehensive calendar of upcoming events as well as any calendar additions or changes.

We are very excited about the return of events upon our stages and we are doing everything possible to ensure it is a safe experience for you and your fellow audience members as well as our performers and staff. The Marion Art Gallery presents Persistent

Iterations

Familiar, constant, and even conventional, the tropes of figuration and landscape nonetheless persist through time and outside of fashion to maintain their quietly dominant positions, even in the most contemporary of art approaches. Springboards from the familiar to the strange or even occasionally markers of deviation, these genres repeatedly demonstrate that well-used is not well-worn. Each of the artists in Persistent Iterations utilize either figuration or landscape as a point of departure to serve their own iconoclastic visual languages. Curated by John Massier, Visual Arts Curator at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, this exhibition features works by artists currently residing in the Buffalo area. Among the artists are: Bruce Adams, Kyle Butler, AJ Fries, Pam Glick, George Afedzi Hughes, Richard Huntington, Joan Linder, Margaret Schrecongost, virocode, and Rebecca Wing.

This imaginative dark comedy propels audiences forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future. After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of “The Simpsons” episode “Cape Feare” entirely from memory. Seven years later, this and other snippets of pop culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles, and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. 75 years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created. “
