History, Hollywood come together in Covington FROM STAFF REPORTS The city of Covington, known as “The Hollywood of the South,” has been and continues to be the setting for many television series as well as TV movies and major motion pictures. As such, many sites throughout the city have become familiar to viewers around the world. The history of the city is one aspect that makes it such an appealing venue for filmmakers. Covington was incorporated in 1822 and is the seat of Newton County. It is the largest of the five cities in Newton County. Covington offers a vibrant downtown area and numerous events to engage residents and visitors. Among those events are the Independence in the Park Fourth of July celebration, Christmas on the Square and Thursday noontime concerts on the Square in May and September in conjunction with the Arts Association in Newton
