DEAR ROCK CITY FAMILY, In the summer of 2019, we received a call that would forever change the trajectory and impact of our church. It was from a board member of an existing church in our city. “Would you be interested in discussing the possibility of our church and property becoming a permanent part of Rock City?” Just a few months into the opening of our Hilliard location, our team looked at one another and asked, “What could God possibly have in mind?” For those of you who were here at the time, you know that almost immediately upon opening our new Hilliard building, we were at capacity. This is a problem most churches dream of, but for us, we knew that if we wanted to continue to reach people who are far from God, we needed to increase capacity and open more seats. We needed more room for our children’s and youth ministries. We had reached capacity and began to ask God, “What’s next?” Across town, in the Polaris community, a church board was struggling with a different problem. The church had been blessed with a significant piece of property, but attendance had been steadily declining for years, and they were struggling to make ends meet. Despite this, their board believed that God had set aside that property purposefully to reach and to engage the city of Columbus, and rather than sell it to make ends meet, their desire was to see the church thrive. After prayerful consideration and having exhausted their options, they believed the best course of action was to gift their church and property to a healthy, life-giving, growing-andgoing church with enough vision to build the kind of church they’d always dreamed of building.
After a few meetings, intense prayer and a period of due diligence, Rock City Church acquired 35 acres and a 55,000-square-foot building in the heart of Polaris. Our team worked hard to renovate the small auditorium located in the building’s gymnasium over the coming months so that our Westerville Campus (which was mobile at the time) could relocate, and on November 15, 2020, we were able to begin holding Rock City services on the property. At the same time, we began praying and dreaming about what could be possible and how we could maximize this incredible gift God had given us for His glory and for His Kingdom. My conviction was then, as it is now, that God did not give us 35 acres of land in the heart of Polaris so that we would open a small campus with limited growth potential. Our belief is that this is a Godopportunity, and we don’t sit on God-opportunities; We seize them! And I believe with all my heart that God gave us this property because He knows that we are willing now, as we have always been, to put our faith to the test, and to trust Him, by developing every square inch of that property to make heaven full and to see His Church thrive and His Kingdom advanced. We invite you to join us as we continue to live out this incredible “only-God” story called Rock City. And we’re asking you to help us seize this opportunity and fulfill God’s incredible plan and purpose for His church – as together, we continue to increase our capacity and make more room For The One.
