Rochester-area businesses are empowered to succeed in a diverse and collaborative climate.
As we reflect on 2024, the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce marks a year of progress and opportunities to support the businesses, organizations and workforce of the Rochester region.
The Year in Review highlights member engagement, workforce & professional development, advocacy, and key initiatives, showcasing the Chamber’s impact across these essential areas.
390 YOUTH REGISTERED FOR LEMONADE DAY
Last summer, the Chamber celebrated its third annual Lemonade Day, a free and engaging program designed to spark entrepreneurial spirit in young minds. Expanding into the greater Rochester area, including Byron and Stewartville, the event attracted nearly 400 budding entrepreneurs eager to develop their own businesses. From crafting a product and designing their stands to establishing budgets and strategic marketing plans, participants gained hands-on experience in building and running a business.
To guide their journey, participants used workbooks that delivered essential lessons in financial literacy and business planning. New in 2024, the Lemonade Day app was introduced as a user-friendly tool embraced by parents and mentors alike for its accessibility and Spanish-language support.
Jesse, a father of two boys who participated in Lemonade Day for the second year, says, “The provided curriculum through the free app is very interactive and engaging, great for sparking age-appropriate discussions about business fundamentals and requires almost no preparation for parents.”
Local businesses, too, recognized the program's impact, applauding its emphasis on financial literacy and its potential to nurture the next generation of innovative leaders. As Lemonade Day continues to grow, its mission to empower young entrepreneurs shines brightly, one glass of lemonade at a time.
We were thrilled that 2024 marked the first year in awhile that every issue of the Advantage magazine was printed and distributed.
A heartfelt thank you to our members, advertisers, and contributors for making this achievement possible. We are excited to continue this momentum into 2025!
From a bi-monthly magazine to a weekly update to an expansive business directory, in 2024 the Chamber worked to provide information and updates to enhance the Rochester area business community.
The Chamber’s Weekly Update connects with over 5,700 local business professionals each week, delivering the latest news, events, and updates including new members introductions, business development opportunities, legislative updates and signature event information.
For three years, the Resource Connect email series has become a source for valuable tools, resources, and news tailored to the business community. In 2024, members received 14 editions of Resource Connect, each packed with actionable insights and information.
In 2024, over 12,600 followers of the Chamber’s social media accounts received updates and information about programs, event announcements, and community stories.
Across its six 2024 issues, the bimonthly Advantage magazine continued to grow, delivering business news, features, and highlights that engaged the regional community. With 7,553 copies distributed, new sections like the Non-Profit Spotlight and CEO Profile further showcased our regions dynamic business landscape.
The 2024 Rochester Area Community Guide & Chamber Directory was a resource for businesses, residents, and newcomers, featuring an industry overview and sections on living in the Rochester region. New this year, a history section highlighted key milestones and growth. With 2,500 printed guides distributed and over 5,700 digital impressions, it helped connect businesses with the community.
While building on the success of programs like Lemonade Day, the Chamber also unveiled a new event in 2024, the Chamber Champions League, a unique event that unites business through a series of friendly head-to-head competitions, blending physical challenges, mental trials and teambuilding activities. The Chamber Champions League provides employers with an excellent team building opportunity, an important factor in talent attraction and retention, and the inaugural year saw 14 teams compete in match games – from bucket ball and corn hole to sand volleyball and tug of war.
"It was incredible to see sponsors host challenges that reflected their businesses... It added a fun, personalized touch to the event."
7,553 ADVANTAGES WERE PRINTED IN 2024 an increase of 3,353 over 2023
"It was incredible to see sponsors host challenges that reflected their businesses," says Shannon Gowen, Events & Programs Director at the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce. "Kreofsky Building Supplies, for example, created a building block speed challenge where participants raced against the clock to construct creative structures. It added a fun, personalized touch to the event."
With the rise in new technologies, the 2024 EduTech Outlook worked to connect the business community to education and tech innovation. New to the event this year was the addition of the technology keynote and the technology panel discussion. Keynote speaker Kendra Ramick, Customer Engineer at Google, along with technology panelists Brian Kronstedt from Boston Scientific and Robert Morreale from Mayo Clinic, provided valuable insights on how AI is reshaping both business and higher education.
The Shop Local – Holiday Gift Guide, now in its third consecutive year, continued to highlight Chamber members’ holiday gift offerings. The 2024 guide featured 36 participants, showcasing a diverse array of options, including food and beverages, retail goods, non-profit donations, and services. The guide was promoted through the Chamber’s various channels, including email campaigns, social media, Advantage magazine, a billboard advertisement, and a press release.

The Chamber continued to expand our workforce initiatives and programs in 2024. This includes the introduction of a new career experience program, Educator Industry Experience, which offers area educators and school administrators the chance to experience career opportunities with local employers. In 2024, six different employers shared what training looks like, gave site tours, and answered questions to help bridge the gap when students are asking questions about different career fields in the classroom.
"It was extremely helpful to learn about the different career options and pathways people took to get where they are today."
Our host employers appreciated the chance to talk with educators as they are preparing the next generation of employees, making it beneficial to both educators and employers. Educator participant and Director of Postsecondary Readiness at Rochester Public Schools, Heather Hogan says, “It was extremely helpful to learn about the different career options and pathways people took to get where they are today. I also appreciated the chance to deepen my knowledge about businesses in Rochester, and making connections.”
Our 2024 STEAM Summit hosted at Rochester Community and Technical College further highlighted its commitment to workforce development by encouraging middle and high school students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. This highly interactive, hands-on event connected nearly 2,500 students from 28 schools across Minnesota and Northern Iowa with 100 industry exhibitors, including health care, trades, technology, hospitality, and more. The Summit’s engaging format inspired students to consider the possibilities within STEAM fields.

Since 1987, the Chamber’s Leadership Greater Rochester (LGR) program has been inspiring and equipping community leaders to connect, grow, and make a lasting impact. In 2024, this premier 10-month leadership development program immersed 38 area professionals in sessions exploring topics such as economic development, workforce challenges, engaging with government, building a sustainable community, public safety, and the local arts scene.
The LGR Class of 2024, which graduated in May, featured two Community Impact Projects: Communication Stations and Forest Bathing Mental Health Signs.
The Communication Stations aims to enhance public spaces that allow for inclusivity, sharing, caring, connectivity, understanding, and reflecting, while showing empathy and compassion. Communication Stations are positioned in local parks, pools and schools to aid in helping nonverbal, disabled, and or hearing-impaired children and adults to communicate with their fellow classmates, family, friends, and teachers.
Forest Bathing Mental Health Signs were placed in various locations throughout the region. Forest Bathing is a Japanese practice of immersing yourself in nature and the signs provide tips on interacting with nature, while practicing deep breathing, relaxation, meditating and other mental health practices.
Another key program is the RYT Network (Rochester Area Young Talent Network) launched in September 2023. The RYT Network provides a dynamic space for young professionals to build relationships and develop a sense of community in their professional lives. With 24 events held annually, including Speed Networking, Industry Tours, CEO Connections, Social Hours, and Workshops on topics like crafting an elevator pitch, the RYT Network ensures there’s something for everyone. The program also held a new professional development conference in 2024, the RYT Summit that featured a career pathway panel discussion, professional development workshops, and keynote speaker.
In 2024, the program boasted 160 active members, an increase from 126 members in 2023. “Employers who support their employees’ participation point to the professional development opportunities as a major upside of the program. With about 80 percent of Chamber members being small businesses, not all are able to offer professional and career development opportunities on their own, the RYT Network can fill the void,” says Claire Henneman, Workforce Initiatives & RYT Network Director at the Chamber.
The Business Development Exchange (BDX) event series continued to grow in 2024, connecting members with content experts to tackle employer goals and challenges. Covering topics like HR, budgeting, and marketing strategies, these sessions offered actionable insights that attendees could apply in their organizations. The Branding Best Practices panel drew record attendance with over 50 professionals, providing strategies for purposeful marketing, sustaining a competitive edge, and enhancing brand awareness.

AVERAGE ATTENDEES AT EGGS & ISSUES an increase of 48 over 2023
A long-standing series presented by the Chamber, Eggs & Issues provides opportunities for member businesses to learn about and discuss the issues that impact their businesses and the community. The Chamber had a record-setting attendance in 2024 thanks to the popular topics featured. In June 2024, Eggs & Issues: The State of Public Safety discussed the state of public safety, innovative programs addressing workforce shortages, and preparations for the anticipated growth and development in Rochester. In September 2024, Eggs & Issues: From D.C. to Rochester included engaging conversations with Congressman Brad Finstad (MN01) and John Kirchner, VP of the Midwest Region, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Attendees gained valuable policy updates and unique perspectives on federal issues impacting businesses and the region.
“Eggs & Issues continues to serve as a vital platform for meaningful conversations on topics that shape our region's growth and prosperity. The strong attendance and engagement we saw in 2024 reflect our members' dedication to staying informed and involved in these critical discussions," notes Olivia Kloster, Policy & Communications Director with the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.
Despite the 2024 legislative session ending without a bonding bill, significant successes were achieved at the state level. A major win was securing a phased funding transition for Rochester’s P-TECH program, avoiding the funding cliff created by changes to its funding structure in the 2023 legislative session.
"This amendment, championed by the Chamber, ensures P-TECH receives the needed funds to continue to serve as a vital resource for preparing tomorrow’s workforce while benefiting students and businesses alike," says Jonathon Krull, Senior Director of Public Affairs & Leadership Development at the Chamber.
Additionally, the Minnesota legislature passed licensure compacts for professions facing workforce shortages, including licensed professional counselors, dental hygienists, physician assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and social workers. These compacts allow qualified professionals from neighboring states to practice in Minnesota, addressing critical workforce gaps.
First launched in September 2023, The Advocate email newsletter has evolved over the year. This advocacy focused newsletter features information on the advocacy work of the Chamber while also informing the business community of relevant news stories on the local, state, and federal level. It is sent out bi-weekly during the legislative session (JanuaryMay) and monthly outside of session.
During the legislative session, The Advocate also features key bills and their impacts on the business community. Notable additions last year included the bill tracking section, voter information, and the introduction of a special edition focused on
time-sensitive issues. These enhancements have further strengthened the newsletter’s role in keeping businesses engaged with critical legislative developments.
"Eggs & Issues continues to serve as a vital platform for meaningful conversations on topics that shape our region's growth and prosperity. The strong attendance and engagement we saw in 2024 reflect our members' dedication to staying informed and involved in these critical discussions"
As part of the Chamber's expanding advocacy efforts, we welcomed Olivia Kloster as our new Policy & Communications Director. With a strong background in government relations, policy, communications, and media relations, Olivia plays a key role in strengthening the Chamber’s advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels. Her passion for policy and contributions help further our mission to support and advocate for businesses.
The Chamber launched its new website in late October 2024, featuring information and resources to empower local businesses, attract talent, and strengthen business advocacy throughout the Rochester community. The website now showcases the Rochester area through information, statistics, career opportunity resources, and an overview of key industries to show that in Rochester we mean business.
The “Ask a Local” section now provides newcomers with authentic insights from residents about life in Rochester, covering topics like housing, community involvement, and more.
“We were excited to unveil our new website this year, which reflects our dedication to supporting the success of our members, local employers, and the Rochester region as a whole,” Ryan Parsons, President of the Chamber says. “The platform was designed to serve as a valuable resource for both new and established businesses, organizations, and talent. It also advanced our business advocacy efforts by addressing key issues facing employers and highlighting Rochester as a thriving hub for businesses and talent alike.”
"We were excited to unveil our new website this year, which reflects our dedication to supporting the success of our members, local employers, and the Rochester region as a whole"
In November, voters passed the Rochester Public Schools 2024 Ignite Student Learning Referendum , increasing per-pupil funding from $943 to $1,113 annually, generating $19.4 million each year over the next decade. “The approval of the Ignite Student Learning Referendum will equip Rochester Public Schools with the resources needed to meet educational needs of a growing Rochester and support career-readiness initiatives that can encourage student success," Parsons noted.
Through this funding, Rochester Public Schools are equipped to support workforce programs like the Career and Technical Education Center at Heintz (CTECH) and the P-TECH programs, which prepare students for careers in fields such as nursing, IT, agriculture, and engineering. It also helps keep Rochester competitive by aligning perpupil funding more closely with peer districts, ensuring that the district can meet the needs of a growing community while continuing to offer quality education.
During the months leading up to the election, the Chamber advocated for the passage of the Ignite Student Learning Referendum. Efforts included hosting a public information session to highlight the funding’s

impact on Rochester’s future, sharing voter resources through the Chamber’s website, newsletter, and social media, and distributing educational materials.
Over the past year, the Chamber elevated its advocacy initiatives, prioritizing stronger communication channels and fostering deeper connections with candidates and elected officials. Early in the year, we partnered with previous Olmsted County Commissioner Sheila Kiscaden to launch the Candidate Training Program . This three-part series helped 45 attendees explore running for office and equipped those who planned to run with resources and knowledge to assist in organizing their campaign. Over the course of the training attendees heard from current elected officials and covered topics such as crafting their messaging, information on filing deadlines, budgeting, campaign finance regulations, leveraging social media, and more.
Building on this momentum, the Chamber introduced another initiative in the summer, Connecting Candidates and Commerce. This program fostered meaningful connections between the current or aspiring political leaders and the business community. Following the general election, the program was rebranded to Linking Leaders & Industry to align with the Chamber’s ongoing mission of connecting local, state, and federal elected officials with the businesses. Through tours of local businesses, elected officials heard directly about challenges, opportunities, and the impacts of policy decisions on their operations. The tours highlighted a diverse array of industries, including nonprofits, hospitality, trade, and distribution, among others.
In the fall, the Chamber partnered with the League of Women Voters and Post Bulletin to hold Candidate Forums for both the primary and general elections. These forums provided candidates with a platform to share their perspectives on key issues directly with voters.
In addition to building on relationships with state leadership and local state delegation to advocate on behalf of the Rochester area business community, the Chamber held meetings with newly elected local officials to discuss legislative priorities and pressing local issues. In fact, 56.7% of local candidates running for office in 2024 attended our Candidate Training Program, Connecting Candidates & Commerce, or met with us one-on-one. When breaking it down to winning candidates, the number increases to 60% that engaged.
The Chamber team is honored to serve the business community and talented workforce of our region. With diverse industries, a skilled workforce, strong partnerships, and exciting growth on the horizon, the Rochester area is truly a place of opportunity.
Thank you to our members for your ongoing support and engagement! Through your support of the Chamber we will continue to develop and lead business community initiatives that will advance the Rochester region.
Taking an in-depth look at Haley's career path, progression, and achievements
Tell us about your career path to becoming Marketing Manager at Haley Comfort Systems. I began my career journey in the customer service field. One of my initial roles during high school was at Haley Comfort Systems, where I welcomed customers and baked cookies! Throughout my high school and college years, I gained further customer service experience through waitressing and bartending. I attended St. Mary’s University, earning a degree in History/Social Science along with a minor in General Business. During a semester-long internship at a business law firm in Washington D.C., I acquired a wealth of knowledge about business and time management. After graduating in 2013, I joined the family business as a Branch Manager at our Hastings location. In just three years, we managed to triple the revenue at that site before selling it to consolidate into a single location in Rochester, MN. Once in Rochester, I transitioned to a more specialized role focused on sales and marketing management, while also contributing to the design and development of our current store!
What experiences have had a significant impact in shaping you as a leader? Being thrust into a branch manager role immediately after college meant I had to jump in with both feet! I was responsible for managing every facet of our business from a remote location. As a young woman stepping in as the boss's daughter, I felt the need to work twice as hard to earn my place. I built a strong bond and mutual respect with my colleagues at our Hastings store, who taught me that anyone can become a leader if they possess passion and determination. This experience boosted my confidence as I transitioned into the larger Rochester market. During my time in Rochester, I have faced new challenges that pushed me to further hone my leadership skills. The diverse dynamics of a larger market and employee base required strategic thinking and adaptability. I engaged deeply with our team, learning all aspects of our business to contribute ideas for growth and improvement.
What changes in trends and needs within the construction industry have you seen? The constant shift in style trends is always so fun to watch. One moment, gold is seen as undesirable, with everyone eager to remove it from their homes; the next, it becomes the trendiest element in the design industry. The fireplace industry has experienced significant changes in usability concerning heat output. Many individuals have chosen to utilize technology that regulates the heat from their fireplaces, while others have opted for an entirely different alternative, such as electric fireplaces. The HVAC industry has seen a significant shift towards more sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for heating and cooling homes, reflecting a strong demand for such options. The past few years have seen a significant emphasis
on air source heat pumps, along with the desire for more hybrid systems that provide the flexibility to heat using either gas or electricity within the same setup.
How has Haley Comfort Systems evolved since its beginning to meet those changes to the industry?
Haley’s has always aimed to be an industry leader. Our focus is on continuous learning and training from the top down. When new technologies or ideas emerge in the HVAC, fireplace, or lighting industry, we are among the first to adopt them. Although some customers prefer to stick with the familiar, we strive to equip ourselves with the knowledge necessary to present all potential solutions. We believe that consumers in our community are avid fact-finders, and we want to create an environment where they can learn alongside us. Over the past couple years, we have begun inviting external speakers to educate homeowners on various topics. These complimentary seminars have been extremely successful in enhancing homeowners' knowledge.
As you look ahead to the future, what do you see as the outlook for the construction industry as well as for Haley Comfort Systems? Looking ahead, I am optimistic about the future of both the construction industry and Haley Comfort Systems. The growing emphasis on sustainability and efficiency presents exciting opportunities for innovation and expansion. At Haley’s, we are committed to staying at the forefront of these changes, continuously enhancing our services to better meet the needs of our customers and contribute positively to the environment. I am excited to lead our talented team as we navigate this dynamic landscape, confident that our dedication and forward-thinking approach will pave the way for continued success.

Each month, we learn from a Chamber member about their offerings, history, a unique fact, and their business outlook
Inspired Retirement Planning is a veteran owned, independent full service financial planning and wealth management firm that focuses on helping clients from Southeast Minnesota as well as across the country. We can accomplish this with a 5-member team that has over one hundred years of combined experience in the financial service industry.
Financial planning is about more than just managing money—it’s about securing your future and achieving peace of mind. Inspired Retirement Planning, a veteranowned, independent firm, has been helping clients navigate their financial journeys for decades. With a focus on retirement considerations and a comprehensive approach to taxes, insurance, and overall financial health, their dedicated team brings over a century of combined experience to the table. We spoke with Dana Basballe, Certified Financial Planner of Inspired Retirement Planning to learn more.
Q: Tell us about Inspired Retirement Planning. What does your organization offer to the Rochester region?
A : Inspired Retirement Planning is a veteran owned, independent full service financial planning and wealth management firm that focuses on helping clients from Southeast Minnesota as well as across the country. We do this by reviewing a client’s tax situation, insurance coverage and overall financial situation, placing a special focus on our clients and their retirement considerations. We can accomplish this with a 5-member team that has over one hundred years of combined experience in the financial service industry and two locations, one on West Circle Drive in Rochester and the other in Plainview.
Q: How did it start for Inspired Retirement Planning?
A: Inspired Retirement Planning's roots go back to 1985, when Paul Basballe began his career with Waddell and Reed. Looking to move away from a restrictive investment and insurance environment and start his own firm, he decided to become an independent advisor with a firm which would become today's LPL. In 1991, he continued to be an investment advisor and he and a business partner began their supervision of other Financial Advisors with a firm called Advisors Group. Paul continued to be a Certified Financial Planner (CFP ®) with Advisors Group until 2016 when he decided to sell his business to his eldest son, Dana and began to retire. In 2019, Dana decided that a rebranding was needed as we began to focus more on pre-retirees and retirees and their overall financial journey.
Q: Inspired Retirement Planning has been a member of the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce since 1993. What do you find valuable in your membership to the organization?
A: We have appreciated the Chamber being an advocate for the small business owner in our area. We have always felt the special attention that our group receives at the State Capitol is valuable and impactful. In addition, the many opportunities to network and foster relationships with our fellow Chamber members has always been meaningful and fun.
Q: What is a unique fact people should know about Inspired Retirement Planning ?
A: Often a question is asked, "Who do you work for?" As an Independent Financial Advisor, holding the Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP ®) and thus acting as a Fiduciary, Dana will reply "I work for my clients, not a particular company." One of our driving missions is that we help our clients regardless of financial circumstances. We feel it is our privilege to be able to serve others in the field that we are in, period.
Q: What is the outlook for your organization and industry?
A: With millions of retirees every year, our organization and industry are staying extremely busy. We will often challenge our clients in our retirement planning meetings with "what's your next step?" Retirement is a journey, not a destination, and it is our view that we want our clients to be engaged with their family and community before and after retirement, maybe even becoming involved with the Rochester Chamber of Commerce.

A Chamber series connecting local candidates and businesses for meaningful discussions
Elected officials toured and heard first hand from local organizations on challenges and opportunities facing their businesses as well as how policy impacts their operations.
In November the Chamber introduced a new series, Linking Leaders & Industry, an evolution of our previous Connecting Candidates & Commerce initiative.
The Chamber’s Linking Leaders & Industry series fostered meaningful discussion and collaboration between elected officials and the Rochester area business community. This provided a platform for elected officials to tour businesses and hear directly about the challenges and opportunities facing their businesses and how policy impacts their operations.
Thank you to Boys & Girls Club of Rochester, Broadway Plaza, Gift of Life Transplant House, GPC Beverage, and Rochester Motor Cars, for hosting these valuable tours and sharing your insights!
The Chamber's legislative priorities for 2025, shaped by insights from our member businesses, were released in December.
Support bonding efforts encouraging development and sustainability to enhance the Rochester region, including road infrastructure and community projects that positively impact the regional business community (e.g., Integrated Resource Recovery System, RST Solar Parking, and Sewer Infrastructure Investments for Housing).
Support legislative efforts to create new and enhance existing talent attraction, retention, and training programs that meet the robust workforce needs of employers in the Rochester region.
• Advocate for the modification of existing mandates (Paid Family Medical Leave) and oppose additional mandates that can impede the growth and operations of the business community.
• Support legislation to reduce barriers to employment and address workforce gaps by reforming licensing processes in high-demand careers (Nurse Licensure Compact).
• Promote the creation and development of workforce programs and initiatives that promote career pathways, encourage industry partnerships with education, and increase awareness of high-demand job opportunities (e.g., Bridges to Healthcare, career academies, career simulators, internship programs, University of Minnesota Rochester investment in facilities and new programs).
• Enhance safety and mobility along the Highway 14 corridor through the construction of interchanges on TH14 at CSAH 3 and CSAH 5 which would facilitate regional development along the TH 14 corridor in Byron and Olmsted County.
• Address regional housing needs through the development and expansion of initiatives and resources, while advocating for balanced regulations that encourage development.
• Advocate for increased access and funding to mental health services and funding to address the mental health needs to improve workforce well-being, productivity, and community health.
• Encourage effective economic development through tax reform, support of programs and incentives, and a streamlined permitting process to enable investment, drive business growth, and make Minnesota competitive in business attraction and retention.

Minnesota added 2,500 jobs and its labor force grew by more than 4,600 workers in November, according to data released today by the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). Minnesota has added jobs nine of the last 12 months.
Minnesota's unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.5%, lower than the national rate of 4.2%, which also rose at the same rate. The labor force participation rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point to 67.8% over the month, compared to 62.5% nationally – a decline over the month before.
"November was another strong month for Minnesota's jobs market. Employers added staff, and more Minnesotans started looking for work," said DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek.
Four supersectors in Minnesota gained jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis, led by strong gains in Construction (up 2,800 jobs, or 2.1%), a reversal of four prior months of seasonally adjusted job losses . Education and Health Services (up 4,900 jobs), Government (800 jobs) and Other Services (400 jobs) also added employees. Six supersectors lost jobs over the month, led by Professional & Business Services (down 1,900 jobs or 0.5%).

Effective in the New Year, Olmsted County will have its own localized mobile crisis response process with 24/7 services provided by the county’s Crisis Response team.
Beginning January 1, 2025, a new mobile crisis response process will be in place for Olmsted County. Prior to 2025, Olmsted County was included in a partnership to provide a regional response for mental health crisis services. Effective in the New Year, Olmsted County will have its own localized mobile crisis response process with 24/7 services provided by the county’s Crisis Response team (previously known as the Diversity, Equity, and Community Outreach team or DECO).
“Mobile crisis response is about offering face-to-face services for adults and children who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency,” said Olmsted County Crisis Team Manager Sidney Frye. “The Olmsted County Crisis Response team can respond to a wide range of mental health crises such as severe anxiety, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, and significant emotional distress.”
Mobile crisis response involves triage/screening, assessment, de-escalation/resolution, peer support, coordination with medical and behavioral health services, and crisis planning and follow up.
Enhanced coordination and integration: We can ensure better coordination with other county services, such as mental health, housing, and social services. This integrated approach allows for a more seamless response to crises, ensuring individuals receive comprehensive support tailored to their specific needs.
Local oversight and accountability: With direct management of the mobile crisis team, we can maintain closer oversight of service delivery, quality, and outcomes.
Faster response times: With the new mobile crisis process, we anticipate faster response times during crises. The team's familiarity with local resources, geography, and community dynamics will enable them to act quickly and decisively, which is crucial during mental health crises.
Cultural competence and community alignment:
Olmsted County’s deep understanding of our community’s unique cultural and demographic needs will allow the Crisis Response Team to be more culturally competent and aligned with local values, improving community trust and engagement.
Sustainability and long-term planning: Olmsted County can develop long-term strategies to enhance and expand mobile crisis services, ensuring they remain sustainable and responsive as community needs evolve.
“We are confident these changes will lead to better outcomes for those experiencing mental health crises and a stronger, more resilient support system for our entire community,” said Director of Dodge and Olmsted Community Corrections Nikki Niles.
