Spring Clubs Overview

Rochambeau students will be able to enjoy a variety of programs this semester that focus on a multitude of areas. From Arts & Crafts to Coding and STEM, Science and Photography as well as Dance and Cooking, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. Some programs will last the full 17-weeks or you can choose from our two new 8-week programs to give your child a variety of activities to experience. All offerings (clubs, before/aftercare and homework help) are available on a first come, first serve basis and will be available until the club is filled. Build your child’s after school schedule with these robust offerings and we look forward to a fun semester with you and your family!

Nursery School Activities

Nursery School students have the opportunity to engage in before care, aftercare and extended aftercare options offered at Rochambeau. Students are engaged in age appropriate activities to both stimulate their minds and encourage play.

Participating in a game workshop can be a lot of fun! It's a great way to relieve stress, relax and explore new or classic games in a collaborative environment. The range of group and individual games is wide: from board and investigation games, to speed and logical thinking games, everyone will learn while having fun This is a great way to train memory, and develop problem solving and decision making skills. So why not give it a try?

Creative Movement is a joyful way for children to explore movement through music and dance Your child will work on developing physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination, and creativity. Using creative movement, students can simultaneously develop motor skills, rhythmic awareness, coordination, and balance in a safe environment.

In chess students will learn the art of character building, perseverance, math and geometry, and patience. They will practice these skills which will help with memory and improve their day to day concentration. And all while having fun!

Students in this club will learn the science behind some of the most exciting forms of transportation: boats, cars, and planes! Students will also discover concepts of architectural design, friction, force, gravity, and density while problem-solving challenges presented in the real world and in storybooks. Overall, students will learn how to build solutions to problems utilizing concepts from both physics and chemistry

Art activities are a terrific way for kids of all ages to express themselves creatively Students will work on projects collaboratively in order to learn the value of creating together, all the while exploring their creativity through individual projects and activities. The goal is to inspire independence and creativity through crafts

This club focuses on providing a safe and fun environment for budding chefs to explore and discover their own creative culinary skills. The young chefs will learn how to use kitchen tools appropriately and safely, how to make fun delicious recipes using simple ingredients that are easy to replicate at home and will learn about nutrition and feeding their bodies in a healthy manner.

In chess students will learn the art of character building, perseverance, math and geometry, and patience They will practice these skills which will help with memory and improve their day to day concentration. And all while having fun!

Basic anatomy, medical instruments and prepping for surgery

Through role-play and activities, students will learn the key responsibilities of a doctor and explore the heart, the lungs, and digestion. Students will use real medical instruments (stethoscope, reflex hammer, and blood pressure cuff) and practice scrubbing, suturing, and tying knots like a real surgeon.

After “adopting” their very own plush puppy, students will roleplay the key responsibilities of a veterinarian, including how to properly perform a nose-to-tail exam. These future veterinarians will learn how to sew stitches, remove ticks, make healthy treats, and vaccinate their dog.

This course teaches students how to design and build their own Lego models, from simple structures to complex machines. They'll cultivate both their creativity and an engineering mindset. Kids have a blast solving problems, designing projects and creatively expressing themselves They will make short stories, apply elements of animation, and create their own sprites and objects – all using technology and coding fundamentals!

On a trajectory from our Earth’s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on club will bring children closer to the stars, planets, and more In Funky Forces, children will play engineer, chemist and physicist. They will learn about electricity, conduct experiments and be mystified by the wonders of chemistry!

Students will put their bodies in motion and release surplus energy. They’ll develop functional movement patterns that will make them more effective and boost their self-esteem for other sports. Along the way, they’ll practice teamwork, communication, and emotional self-regulation skills to help them everywhere, not just on the field or court. Activities include an introduction to Baseball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Gymnastics, Running, Yoga, Obstacle Courses, Tag, and Parkour!

The students will discover the work of great masters and will be guided to create art pieces inspired by them "à la manière de". They will be encouraged to incorporate their own touch. The mediums used will range from drawing to sculpture, to make sure the students get familiar with the endless possibilities in art.

As the foundation of all dance forms, Ballet helps develop base dance techniques for any style Ballet classes help students with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, selfdiscipline, and self-confidence, and can potentially enhance your child’s motor, listening, and social skills. Dancers will learn basic steps and terminology in ballet and will begin to explore their own expressive movement styles while honing in on important technique.

Students who participate in this choir will be able to: Practice good posture, voice, and breathing techniques to improve singing skills. Sing in front of an audience in harmony with others. Gain confidence and trust in themselves. Learn about the French language through singing, dancing, and movement. Make new friends.

In this club, students will have the opportunity to discover different animals that exist around the world and directly in their communities. They will also have a chance to dive into veterinary medicine and learn how we can help to protect the health of the species that exist around us! By the end of this club, students will develop a presentation on how to take care of an animal of their choice using the methods they think best from what they tested and learned during their time in the club.

Our budding musicians will participate in an ensemble music group. Participants will learn about the instrument as well as how to play in a music group. Rental Instruments and music provided.

Get ready to collaborate with peers to explore, discuss, and produce prose, poetry, or drama across a variety of genres. Each week, we respond to new prompts and experiment with different styles of writing. Students are encouraged to share their stories, and choose a favorite piece to “publish” in a group literary collection.

In this class, we'll be exploring collaborative storytelling through Dungeons and Dragons. Along the way, we'll develop social and emotional skills that will serve us well outside of the classroom. Get ready to stretch your imagination telling stories with your friends and build useful creative skills!

In Book Club, students discover, discuss, and celebrate their favorite books with their peers in a friendly, supportive environment. Each week, students bring (or borrow) books to enjoy reading independently, with a partner, or as a whole club. Then, they participate in a weekly meeting to talk about the novels, authors, genres, etc. Club members also create book projects, art work, letters to the author, and more. If your student enjoys getting cozy with a good book, Book Club is the club for them!

In club this semester you’ll learn the very basics of how to sew by hand while continuing to expand your skills each week. Throughout the course, you’ll finish multiple projects and gain confidence in hand sewing, understanding sewing terminology, and will learn how to read a sewing pattern. Class will be taught in English, but is open to any language speaker.

The children approach the theater by group in a playful way. They discover the art of improvisation and how to move on stage. They learn a few memorization techniques, develop their public speaking skills and, of course, work on their imagination by creating and participating in the production of a play. The benefits are multiple: developing self-confidence, sharing, respect and listening to each other

After a long day of learning and structure, blow off some steam in aftercare. This club allows students to relax after school and engage in a variety of activities of their choosing. Policies and Procedures

Registration

Registration for the Spring 2024 clubs will begin on December 11th and close on January 5th. Please reference the guide book for all clubs available and be sure to adhere to the grade ranges to ensure your child is eligible for the club of their choosing. When registering, please be sure you have an active Sawyer account in preparation for registration to begin The registration window begins at 10am on the registration date and will close at 9pm of the closing date

Waitlist

Students are placed on a waitlist once the club capacity has been met. If a space becomes available in the club, a member of the Auxiliary Programs team will reach out in the order of the waitlist to complete registration

Withdrawals/Transfers&Refunds

There is a minimum capacity that must be met in order for a club to take place If the minimum is not met, parents will receive a full refund for the club and are welcome to join the waitlist of their child's next choice

Registration will begin on December 11th and will close on January 5th. If you have a cancellation or transfer request please complete the google form on our website no later than January 10th. A member of the Auxiliary Programs team will contact you to confirm your change

Student injuries that result in the inability to participate in a club must be submitted with a doctors note and will be addressed on a case by case basis for a partial refund. Requests for a cancellation or transfer from a club after February 9th will accrue a fee of $100 Any requests made after March 1st will not be refunded

Sessions missed during the semester will not be reimbursed as fees already reflect possible missed sessions due to early dismissals or snow days.

DropInRequests

Please submit a request via email to clubs@rochambeau.org no later than 1pm on the day of your need. Requests made after this deadline are not guaranteed to be honored. Please note that drop in registration is based on availability and is not guaranteed by request A member of the Auxiliary Programs Team will reach out to confirm receipt

LateFee

A late fee will be assessed beginning at 5:30pm at a rate of $25 for every portion of 15 mins, that your child remains in our care This fee will be charged to your Sawyer account the same day the late fee occurs We appreciate you making every effort to be on time however, in the event you will be late, please call the school and/or send an email so that we are aware of your impending arrival. After 5 late fees, your child will be removed from the activity with no refund.

Medical/EmergencyForms

Please note that no medical personnel are on site after 5:30pm The Nurse’s office is not accessible after this time for access to medications provided for use during the school day. AP staff are First Aid and CPR certified and will deal with all injuries and illnesses according to School Policy. Parents will be informed if their child receives care during our program

DisruptiveBehavior

The safety and wellbeing of your children is our top priority At the discretion of the club instructor, a child displaying inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the club and will remain in aftercare until dismissal time. Parents will be notified by phone or by email. Children who receive a second disruptive behavior report may be required to withdraw from that club for that semester with no refund A child may be removed from a club at any time at the discretion of the Auxiliary Programs Team.
