I am so excited about this issue of L’educateur Moderne because it addresses one of the most relevant and important issues in education—teacher self-care. Teachers have the tendency to put their blood, sweat and tears into their career as educators to the point that they burn themselves out mentally, emotionally, and physically. If educators are not able to re-energize adequately, then their depletion will impact their performance in the classroom, leading to lost educational opportunities for students. If educators are not given or do not find opportunities to de-stress, feel appreciated, or connect with resources that feed their soul, then a very real threat to the stability of today’s classroom is at risk. Teachers are the linchpin to the welfare of education and if the current trend of teachers leaving the field of education in lieu of better paying careers that provide greater support continues, we are going to see a catastrophic and continual decline in our comprehensive value in the global market.
