PLACE THE CAR IN THE CENTER OF THE ITINERANT CAMP.

This project was realised with a group of 4, at ISD Rubika on Erasmus, while working together with Quechua from Decathlon.

The starting point was to design a solution that placed the car more in the center of a mobile camp. First, research was done around camping styles, users, products from Quechua and camping with the car. The scope then was placed on a young family.

Afterwards the 3 universes were combined into 1, using feedback from a survey among other tools. In the next phase a prototype of this solution was constructed and tested.

This was further developed at the Quechua headquarters in Sallanches (France), where a new prototype of the tarp and relaxing roll was started and finished at ISD Rubika.

On the left side of the car we can find a deployable table which slides from underneath the roofbox with storage pockets on the fabric part and it can be protected by a raincover on the top.

Personal storage

This is the final solution which is a complete camping setup. It involves a roofbox with storage for the tent, relaxing seat and cooking table, as well as personal storage space for the user’s equipment.

On the right side of the car we have the tent with a transparent waterproof roof and a mosquito net on the front to create visibility. On the walls of the tent there are plenty of storage pockets. Inside the tent is a deployable relaxing seat which consists of a fabric that can be rolled out and fixed to the ground with pegs, as well as an inflatable tube to sit on. This relaxing seat also has integrated storage pockets.

This is the finished roofbox in different colorways, matching the philosophy of Quechua. On the left side of the roofbox we have the storage for tent and relaxing roll as shown by the icons. On the right side there is the storage for the table underneath as well as personal storage for the user’s equipment. On the back we can find the storage for all the other gear coming with the roofbox (tentpoles, guylines, extra fabric, pegs, ...). On the top of the roofbox there are the 3 points to fix the watercovers of the tent and table protection and on the bottom are standard feet to fit on roofrails of any car. The roofbox is a combination of a hard, tough skeleton with a fabric layer around it. This way the roofbox is sturdy and protects your gear but it can also expand and reshape to the form of the stored material inside.

URBAN BICYCLE FOR BIKE MESSENGERS 1 WEEK

BRIEF

S TA R T

This is a project completed during 1 week with 3 people. The starting point was to use a city as inspiration to design a bike, this was combined with a company.

The recent and future efforts of London to create bicycle infrastructure as well as the growing popularity of Deliveroo and other bike messengers were used as inspiration to design an urban bicycle finding its roots in urban culture and fixies.

doing for bicyclists. Next to that the urban culture of bike messengers was analyzed and the company ‘Deliveroo’.

ONE SOLUTION This is the final Deliveroo bicycle, inspired by urban culture, with dynamic lines and flexibility. It is sturdy with integrated lighting, bikestand and lock. And it has his roots in the fixie culture with different wheels and flashy colors.

These are the features of the Deliveroo-bicycle: It has integrated lighting inside the handlebars, as well as integrated lighting in the back on the mudguard/box-platform. Next to these it has an integrated lock inside the frame that is stored behind the bikestand.

InfinIgnis SOCIAL GRILL TABLE 1 MONTH

This project was done solo during 1 month. It started from a competition to design outdoor furniture. Later a social character was added to it and an attempt was made to work with different materials.

MAKE COOKING MORE SOCIAL FOR A GROUP IN AN OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT, USING A SELF FEEDING CAMPFIRE.

InfinIgnis PROJECT ROUTE

The proces of this design started with searching for inspiration in ‘social cooking’, such as barbecuing. The self feeding campfire was used as an idea to create a self feeding grill. This way cooking would be more social since everyone can be around the table and doesn’t need to be at the bbq. Next, materials were looked into that could be used for this grill table. And the furniture was being sketched, pulling inspiration from concrete designs, polygons and abstract industrial designs. In the final phase a 3D model was made with Solidworks that was later scaled down to be 3D printed.

When the 2 units are placed on a correct distance of each other, the metal tabletop can be lifted on it by 2 people. The 4 points of the concrete bases fit in the 4 slots of the tabletop. This leaves the grill in the middle. The last part is loading the V-shape in the middle on the bottom with wood and start grilling ...

IMPROVING BICYCLE MOBILITY IN THE CITY 3 MONTHS

CREATE A PRODUCT - SERVICE SOLUTION FOR ANTWERP AND ITS CITIZENS, BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF ‘SHARING MOBILITY’.

This design proces took 3 months with a group of 3 people. It started with the theme ‘sharing mobility’ and the mission was to design a product-service solution for the city of Antwerp in the near or not so near future (2020, 2030, 2050, ...)

CONTEXT

This gave the context for the PSS (product service system) solution. Here, a context in the near future is described where we have enormous cities with self-driving cars dominating the roads, and the infrastructure focused around these. This way traffic is more organized and the bicyclist can get a more upfront place on the road. With the new solution the bicyclist will be placed more central, social contact will be improved in a digitalized society and there will be data collection which can flow back into the system, to improve it, as well as to the users.

Next, interactions with the product were tested with different digital animations to focus on the interaction with the user.

Using these user tests the final interactions were selected and the product was designed.

Meanwhile the application was being made, first using wire frames and finally creating the whole UI.

Defining PSS

This is the process overview: It started with using tools to analyse the problems and the situation, such as a system map or a context map. Then these results were organized to find solutions for the problems using a lotus blossom, 8x8 solution grid, ... In the next step the solution was described with its components and the service. A business model canvas and PSS overview were created that represented the whole solution with all the products, services and stakeholders involved.

Finally the whole PSS solution was presented at a jury with different companies.

The second element is the Wazr, the device on the bicycle’s handlebars that’s used for 3 functions: GPS (regular GPS and connection to a GreenWaze), Speed (to slow down or speed up a part of a GreenWaze, to split it, if it’s becoming too big) and showing when you have a notification on your smartphone.

With the application users can check the news page for info on mobility in the city, start a new route using a GreenWaze or not, collect fitness data, recover a stolen bike using tracking, ...

PSS SOLUTION

This PSS solution is a system where users can group while cycling and create a ‘GreenWaze’, this way they can get green lights along their route.This creates a more fluent stream of traffic and a more pleasant commute to work or for leisure. The system collects data (where users are, how many, ...) and groups them using an algorithm.

The last element of the PSS is the bracelet, this way users of the system can recognize other users and can join or start a GreenWaze by high fiving, creating more social contact.

She orders the GreenWaze package online.

Marie creates an account and connects the Wazr to the computer.

On the way Marie connects to Lies’ GreenWaze.

Lies also uses GreenWaze and uses a route close to Marie’s house.

Lies calls Marie to go shopping in Antwerp.

At the crossing with the ring road the lights turn green.

Because of the size of the group all the lights turn green along the route.

When they arrive they get a notification to lock their bicycles.

SHOE DESIGN

During a class while on Erasmus at ISD Rubika, in France, the goal was to realise a sketch or design with a mockup in clay. Being a passionate about streetwear and urban culture, the choice was made to make a clay model of a shoe I sketched before. This way I learned to use this new technique, also implemented for making real life scale models of car designs.

MODELLING + RENDERING

SPEEDFORM Later this shoe was also modelled in a new software I learned, Autodesk Alias Speedform.

This is a polygon based CAD software used for making quick models and well suited for form studies. The modelling started from a sideview made in photoshop combined with a topview, later the 3D model was rendered using Keyshot.

BABY VIDEO MONITOR MODELLING + RENDERING SKETCHING

During a 3-day masterclass, given by Lieven Adriaenssen, former Senior Product Designer at Philips Design and freelance designer, a baby video monitor was designed. These are two of the designs that can be placed in the room of the baby, including a camera, speaker, LED’s, ... The designs were sketched (with inspiration from the Minion movies for example) and later modelled in Alias Speedform.

3D MODELLING NIKON FM2

NIKON FM2 This is a 3D model of an actual vintage camera I own, the Nikon FM2.

It was made in 2 days using Solidworks for the modelling and Keyshot for the rendering. All the measurements were taken from the real life model and sketched in technical drawings for reference. It’s placed in a self-made scene with neontubes to experiment with rendering lights.

W AT C H This is a watch designed by myself, starting from scratch with my passion for minimalistic design. This was combined with the element of the turbine around the edge, to represent power. The watch was modelled in Solidworks and rendered in different styles and colorways in Keyshot, experimenting with materials, textures and labels representing the matching ambiance.

CHARACTERS This small project started from my love for sketching cartoons and fictional characters, going from monsters, to people to small creatures, ...

I tried to expand my horizon by doing full size characters and not only heads, to incorporate more of the anatomy of the human body.
