Cricket crowd a boost for village keith bellew
WHILE cricket fans may have been disappointed by the poor weather at last Friday’s international match between Ireland and England, the overall goal of boosting the local economy was achieved. Malahide restaurateurs and publicans had a great day, as despite rain stopping play in the 18th over, thousands of fans stayed on in Malahide.
More fans ventured into the village than would have done so had the game gone on, and punters stayed longer in restaurants and pubs than they had previously intended, as they had the afternoon to kill. Tony Lambert, of Fingal Chamber of Commerce, said pubs and restaurants were packed. “People didn’t have the match to stay at, so they came down into the village and spent the afternoon there,” he said.
