School’s wait for revamp is over NATALIE BURKE
AFTER years of campaigning, St Oliver Plunkett’s primary in Malahide will see the development of a new school building next year. Last week, Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn confirmed its construction would commence in 2014. The construction is part of a major €2bn school building project which will see 70 school projects
scheduled for next year. Speaking to the Gazette, principal Claire O’Connor said staff and students at the school were delighted with the news. “We really can’t wait. Hopefully it will all be started by July 2014. It’s very exciting,” she said. St Oliver Plunkett’s National School will be one of 22 new schools at primary level to be constructed as part of the project. Full Story on Page 7
Ho ho ho: Howth restaurant gives Santa a warm welcome SANTA Claus was given a warm welcome at Wright’s Findlater Howth last weekend as he dropped in to visit the local children - and parents - during the Family Fun Day. The man in red took note of the children’s wish list for
Christmas, while carol singers and mince pies added to the festive atmosphere. Findlater’s also organised a charity bucket collection for Focus Ireland on the day. Picture: David O’Shea
