LUCAN Youthreach students have
recently completed their two-year programme, and graduated at the Lucan Spa Hotel. The students gained FETAC Level 2, 3 or 4 qualifications from the programme that aims to provide second chance education for early school leavers. They studied a wide range of practical subjects such as catering, computers, maths and woodcraft. Having served Lucan residents for many years, the highly esteemed La Banca Restaurant is due to close at the end of July. Several steps that owner
Keith Kenny took to keep the restaurant afloat were not successful at amassing the funds required to meet the rates, and its limited opening hours in the evenings proved to be a significant factor in La Banca’s
demise. Kenny told The Gazette: “It was the biggest challenge of my life trying to take over La Banca. It came to the stage where unfortunately I ran out of finances and couldn’t
afford to go any further with it.” FG Cllr William Lavelle expressed disappointment at the closure saying Kenny had put his “heart and soul” into it. Full Story on Page 7
