Local burglary rate is down by 27% – Garda Cllr Lavelle warns community ‘must not be complacent’ in face of crime

THE rate of burglary in Lucan has fallen by 27%, according to the latest Garda statistics for the local area that were released last week.
The figures, which were released to the South Dublin Joint Policing Committee, stated that there were 58 cases between January and April, whereas there were 79 cases of burglary reported in Lucan in the same period
last year. Reports of criminal damage fell by 42%, from 106 to 61 cases. However, Cllr William Lavelle (FG), who is vicechairperson of the South Dublin Joint Policing Com-
mittee, has warned that “we must not be complacent”. He said: “Crime is an ongoing issue. At the moment, the levels are very low, but vigilance is required in order to keep them low.” Full Story on Page 7
