Lidl works cause a lot of anger in Portmarnock Retail giant to hold a public meeting to address locals’ ire over construction
SYLVIA POWNALL LIDL is to host a public meeting for Portmarnock residents as anger mounts over the construction of its controversial new store in the centre of the seaside village.
The move follows a fresh wave of outrage over a photograph posted on social media of an elderly woman walking in the middle of the road alongside a right of way at St Bridget’s Avenue, which is now blocked off.
The Facebook post reads: “Way to go Lidl and Fingal County Council. Forcing the elderly residents of St Anne’s Portmarnock to walk in the middle of the road. #lidlchristmasmoments”. The development was
granted planning permission despite local opposition and concerns over access, traffic congestion and its environmental impact – and against the advice of An Bord Pleanala’s own inspector. Continued on Page 4
