First class pupils Craig Doyle, Ali Gill and Matthew Fitzpatrick were among those who learned from Garda Donnellan, with some high-vis jackets helping to reinforce the message of being seen, being alert, and staying safe. Cherrywood rebuff dashes IKEA’s hopes An Bord Pleanala reject appeal to add furniture giant to zone’s master plan

THERE will be no new IKEA home and furniture store in the city’s southside suburb of Cherrywood when the strategic development zone
master plan gets under way, it was revealed recently. An Bord Pleanala has decided not to make modifications to the Cherrywood plan following an appeal by IKEA to modify it.
The ruling follows a similar refusal to accommodate IKEA on the Cherrywood site made by Dun LaoghaireRathdown County Council in 2012. Cllr Denis O’Callaghan
(Lab) welcomed the planning authority’s decision, saying: “[Cherrywood] was never intended to accommodate large-scale retail warehousing.” Full Story on Page 2
