Councillor apologises for Gazette mock-up Fine Gael distances itself from John Bailey’s copyright breach with his political leaflet
Bairbre Ni Bhraonain
FINE Gael has this week distanced itself from the actions of a Dun Laoghaire councillor. Cllr John Bailey was at the centre of a political storm when he produced a mock-
up of The Dun Laoghaire Gazette, promoting himself among his constituents. The reproduction contained several changes to a story about Amgen and the National Rehabilitation Hospital, including a banner across the story, reading:
“Bailey – The Local Man Putting People First”. The changes made it appear that The Gazette brand endorsed Cllr Bailey. However, The Gazette is happy to clarify that this is not – and never has been – the case.
When told that his mockup was a breach of copyright, Cllr Bailey apologised “unreservedly” for his actions. Fine Gael party HQ said this “is not something [the party] would condone or support”. Full Story on Page 5
