DLR parents are paying the most for childcare Colossal costs put the county’s hard-pressed families at the top of national table – report
AISLING KENNEDY DUN Laoghaire-Rathdown is the most expensive part of the country for childcare costs. A report has revealed that parents in the area
pay a weekly average fee of €213.94 for a full-time place for their child – the national average is €167.03 per week. Minister for Children Katherine Zappone said that the report’s findings will help her Department’s policy
development so that “we can meet the goal of providing affordable, quality and accessible childcare for all”. Deputy Josepha Madigan (FG) described the cost of childcare as “punitive”. She said: “We need to be
supporting families. Efforts need to be made to deal with the disproportionately high childcare costs in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area, which are the highest in the country.” Full Story on Page 2
