THE King of Dalkey (also occasionally known as Finbarr Madden) was joined by lots of helpful landlubbers – as well as jazzlubbers and foodlubbers, one could say – for the recent launch of the second Dalkey Lobster, Crab and All That Jazz festival, which runs from this Friday, August 23 to Sunday, August 25. For further information on the festival, and its delicious mix of local seafood and global jazz music, see www. facebook.com/DalkeyLobsterFest.
M&S workers vote for industrial action Union ballot sees strike approved to oppose forced redundancies
BAIRBRE NI BHRAONAIN
STRIKE action is to take place by workers at Marks and Spencer in Dun Laoghaire following the shock closure of the store last week.
A union ballot organised by Mandate on August 16 saw 88% voting for industrial action against forced redundancies. Some 26 workers at the Dun Laoghaire store, which closed on August 17, will now strike with the other
154 M&S workers from three other closed stores, in Naas, Tallaght and Mullingar. Mandate’s David Gibney said M&S’ refusal to offer voluntary redundancies led to strike action, and added: “We may seek another ballot
from the open stores to support us [in the future].” Jonathan Glenister, of M&S, said: “There are no redeployment opportunities available to our employees affected by the closures.” Full Story on Page 4
