WITH some enthusiastic younger runners at the front, and more relaxed (and older) runners at the back, participants set off on one of the charity races held in the grounds of Blackrock College recently. The third annual Rock Run, sponsored by business advisors Grant Thornton, saw a great turnout on the day, with a 1k run for children and a 5k run for adults helping to support the Mission Fund, which helps to fund educational projects for children living in poverty in many of the poorest parts of the Third World.
Campaigners launch action against berth 170 at meeting to oppose proposed €18m cruise liner facility in harbour

A NEW campaign was launched last week to oppose a proposed €18m cruise liner berth, which would be 390m long and located in Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
A meeting arranged by Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett (PBP) was attended by about 170 people in the Kingston Hotel. Deputy Boyd Barrett said the campaign was launched to oppose the berth pro-
posals as “people think it is dangerous to borrow €18m using the public assets of the harbour as collateral”. He said this could lead to the harbour’s privatisation if the harbour does not get enough cruise liner business
to pay back the loan. However, Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company said a comprehensive report from a firm of economists on the benefits of cruise visits to the town was planned. Full Story on Page 3
