‘Flawed model’ for estates faces change 85% vote needed for local authority to take estate in charge may be cut

TYRRELSTOWN residents may soon be able to vote to have the council take their estate in charge as the Department of Environment is currently examining the
planning rule that has prevented them from doing so up to now. Estates need 85% of residents to vote in favour of a local authority taking their estate in charge before it can be done. Cllr Roderic O’Gorman
(GP) requested that Junior Environment Minister Paudie Coffey lower the figure. He made this following a meeting of Tyrrelstown residents who have been at odds with the owner management companies who run their
estates. “It is now recognised that this was a flawed model for these estates and management companies will not be used like this in the future,” said Cllr O’Gorman. Full Story on Page 8
