Clarke geared up for the 2014 Irish Cargobike Championships, which took place in The Phoenix Park on Father’s Day on Sunday, June 15. This family event was organised by The Dutch Bike Shop and Greenaer, and supported by the OPW and the Dublin Cycling Campaign. It attracted over 50 cargobike owners who participated various fun races, competitions and demonstrations.

Rent supplement rise a ‘stay of execution’ Increase is described as a ‘sticking plaster solution’

IN ORDER to assist those in privately rented homes who are at risk of becoming homeless, the Department of Social Welfare has recently announced a 13-week rise in
the rent supplement. Dublin West Deputy Ruth Coppinger (SP) has described this as a “stay of execution”. She said: “The increase in rent limits is welcome but does not go anywhere close to being a solution to the
housing crisis. It is acknowledged by Minister Joan Burton that there is a housing crisis. Unfortunately, what she is putting forward is a sticking plaster solution.” Minister Burton said: “I can assure deputies that
department officials have considerable experience in dealing with customers of the scheme and will continue to make every effort to ensure that their accommodation needs are met.” Full Story on Page 6
