Project refused but fear persists Keith Bellew
Planning permission for the proposed development of a Lidl supermarket and shopping centre in Castleknock Village has been refused by Fingal County Council. Local residents and representatives alike had opposed the development at the site adjacent to the village flower shop. However, their concerns have not been completely allayed, as one of the council’s reasons for refusal was
that it considered that “the proposed development would represent the underutilisation and the inefficient use of serviced and zoned lands”. Cllr Eithne Loftus (FG) who was a champion of local opposition to the development said: “I am delighted that it was refused, but the conditions on which it was refused worry me considerably.” The council declined to comment further.
