Baby’s first step: Giraffe calf walks in to Dublin Zoo dublin Zoo has welcomed a new addition to its animal kingdom recently, as a male Rothschild giraffe was born on Wednesday, May 7. The giraffe calf was born in the zoo at 11.10pm to experienced parents Maeve and Robin, and stands 1.7 metres tall and weighs 70kg. He made his first outside appearance on Monday, May 12, and joins a herd of eight giraffes at the Zoo. Less than 670 Rothschild giraffes exist in the wild. Picture: Patrick Bolger

Men appear in court over taxi hijacking Pair remanded on bail of €100 and ordered to appear at court on June 6

Two men have appeared in cour t charged with the hijacking of a taxi in Laurel Lodge last week.
Andrew Byrne (28) from Fortlawn Avenue, Clonsilla and Ross Cahill (19) from Portrane Road, Donabate, appeared before Blanchardtown District Court on May 9.
They were charged in connection to the hijacking of a taxi in the early hours of May 8. They were arrested on the Howth Road at about 3.20am. Both men were detained
at Blanchardstown Garda Station. They appeared in court on May 9 and were remanded on bail of €100 and have been ordered to appear at Blanchardstown District Court on June 6.
