Snap of Brillance: VVC’s Click-Worthy Wonder

Shining a spotlight on Rochelle Aldridge’s Photographic Artistry

As the leaves begin to change and the air becomes crisper, October brings with it a celebration of creativity and visual storytelling. It’s National Photographer Month, and what better way to celebrate than by shining a spotlight on an aspiring photographer who has made her mark in the world of photography – Rochelle Aldridge, a talented student at Victor Valley College.

Choosing Victor Valley College

Rochelle Aldridge’s journey in photography started with a move to the Victor Valley area. When asked why she chose Victor Valley College (VVC) for her photography studies, Rochelle shared, “I chose to attend Victor Valley College because I had moved to this area.” It’s often the life changes that lead individuals to discover their true passions, and for Rochelle, this change opened up a world of creative possibilities.

A Passion for Capturing Moments

While Rochelle’s photography journey began at VVC, her passion for photography has been growing for years. Her favorite part of photography? “The end result with my model,” Rochelle says with enthusiasm. “Whether it’s a group of athletes participating in sports or a new mom who just had her first baby, seeing their expressions is the best part of it all.” Photography is about capturing those special moments that become treasured memories. Rochelle believes in the magic of freezing those moments in time, whether on paper or on a screen.

A Lens on Sports Photography

Among the various styles of photography, sports photography holds a special place in Rochelle’s heart. Her journey in sports

photography began when her oldest son was growing up and playing travel ball. Rochelle noticed vendors charging hefty fees for their services, and she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I decided to start learning and creating my own artwork,” Rochelle explains. “Through the years, when an athlete asked me for photos, I never charged them a price. I just let them see the end result and offer me a tip. I feel running my business this way has made me a lot more money since you’re allowing them to choose the price.”

Canon vs. Nikon

Of course, no photography interview is complete without the age-old question: Canon or Nikon? Rochelle’s response? A goodnatured laugh. It’s a question that often divides photographers, but Rochelle’s perspective is refreshingly diplomatic. It’s not about the brand; it’s about capturing the moment.

Favorite Snapshot: A World Series Memory

Every photographer has a favorite photo, and Rochelle is no exception. Her favorite photo holds immense sentimental value. “It is of my son,” she shares. “He had an opportunity when he was 18 years old to play in the World Series of Pony baseball, a significant event in the Pony community throughout the United States. I happened to be a Field Director for corporate, and I had the opportunity to go down onto the field and create these memories for all these local and international athletes.”

Photography’s Greatest Achievement: Going Global

Rochelle’s journey in photography has seen her work published worldwide. It’s a significant achievement that reflects her dedication, talent,

and passion for photography. Her work has transcended boundaries, touching the lives of people around the world.

Photography as Therapy

For many, photography serves as a therapeutic escape, a way to find solace in the midst of life’s challenges. Rochelle wholeheartedly agrees. “Oh yes, photography is definitely my therapy. I consider it ‘me time.’ It’s satisfying to me, and I won’t let anyone take that from me.” Through the lens of her camera, Rochelle Aldridge has found a way to capture the beauty and emotion of life’s moments. Her passion for photography shines brightly, and her journey is an inspiration to all aspiring photographers. As we celebrate National Photographer Month this October, let Rochelle’s story remind us of the power of visual storytelling and the joy of capturing life’s precious moments.

VVC’S HAUNTED PAC COMING TO CAMPUS: The Untold Story

ASB, Foundation, and the PAC partner for exciting festive frights

The arrival of fall brings a special kind of magic to Victor Valley College – a magic that thrives in the shadows and whispers of longforgotten tales. This year, the college’s historic Performing Arts Center (PAC) is undergoing a remarkable transformation into a haunted house like no other. But what sets it apart isn’t just the spine-tingling thrills; it’s the dark and enigmatic history that lurks behind the scenes.

In partnership with the VVC Foundation and the Associated Student Body (ASB), the PAC has created a hair-raising experience that delves deep into a fabricated but eerily believable backstory.

The tale unfolds in a town forgotten by time, where the PAC was once a thriving theater, showcasing the finest performances and hosting unforgettable events. But tragedy struck in the form of a catastrophic fire that

reduced the beloved theater to ashes. Or so the official records say.

In truth, the fire that claimed the theater had darker, more sinister origins. Whispers in the town spoke of a mysterious secret buried beneath the PAC – a secret that stirred malevolent forces. It was said that a coven of occultists had practiced dark rituals within the very walls of the theater, seeking to harness supernatural powers. Their meddling with forces beyond comprehension led to the inferno that engulfed the building, sealing its fate in flames and ashes.

But as the legend goes, the theater never truly died. It rose from its ashes, rebuilt by unknown hands, and now serves as a shadowy portal between the realms of the living and the dead. The spirits of those who once graced its stage, unaware of their tragic fate, linger within the

newly rebuilt PAC. They are trapped, lost in a perpetual encore of despair, and their restless souls cry out for release.

Visitors who dare to step inside the haunted theater will embark on a journey through the hallowed halls of the once-burned-down PAC, where the boundaries between reality and the supernatural blur. The experience is designed to take you on an eerie tour through winding hallways, hidden passages, the grand lobby, the haunting auditorium, the eerie loading/ unloading dock, and the ominous stage. Each twist and turn reveals a new chapter of the spectral tale.

But be forewarned, this haunted theater experience is not for the faint-hearted. The intensity of the scares and the immersive storytelling demand that participants be aged 16 and up, ensuring that only the bravest souls

will venture forth. A milder and less spooky version of the hanuted theater will be available for those 15 and under on October 29.

Tickets are available for $8.00 for general admission and a reduced rate of $4.00 for those with an ASB card. All proceeds from this fun event will be donated to the Lee Harris Scholarship through the VVC Foundation, making sure that the mysterious and spinechilling adventure serves a noble purpose.

As the sun sets and darkness descends upon the PAC, VVC is ready to transport you into a world where secrets, spirits, and stories intertwine. This Halloween season, dare to explore the dark past and haunted present of Victor Valley College’s Performing Arts Center. Gather your courage, invite your friends, and prepare for an unforgettable night of spinechilling frights and enigmatic thrills. The

secrets of the PAC await those brave enough to uncover them, in a story that blurs the line between reality and the supernatural.

FELICIA KARIKARI: Making a Difference in VVC’s HASS Community

A brief glance at the Program Manager behind the HASS Student Engagement Center

Felicia Karikari, the Program Manager for the School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (HASS) at Victor Valley College (VVC), in a candid interview, she shared her heartfelt journey, the significance of Arts & Humanities, and the resources that warmly embrace HASS students.

October is celebrated as Arts and Humanities Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the profound impact that the arts and humanities have on our culture, society, and personal lives. This annual observance encourages people to engage with and celebrate various forms of artistic expression and intellectual exploration. It’s a month to acknowledge the power of creativity, imagination, and critical thinking in shaping our world.

Arts and Humanities Month provides a platform to highlight the myriad ways in which the arts and humanities enrich our lives. From literature and history to music, theater, visual arts, and philosophy, these disciplines help us understand our past, navigate the present, and envision the future. They serve as a mirror reflecting our diverse experiences and as a bridge connecting different cultures and perspectives. Through literature, we can walk in someone else’s shoes and gain empathy; through history, we learn from the mistakes and triumphs of those who came before us; through the arts, we find solace, inspiration, and a means to express our own narratives.

During this month, cultural institutions, educational organizations, and communities often host events, exhibitions, lectures, and performances to celebrate the arts and humanities. These activities encourage individuals to explore their own creativity, engage in intellectual discourse, and support local artists and cultural institutions. Arts and Humanities

Month serves as a reminder that these disciplines are not just luxuries but essential components of a well-rounded, empathetic, and informed society. By celebrating and promoting the arts and humanities in October, we acknowledge their enduring significance in shaping our collective identity and fostering a deeper understanding of the human experience.

A Year of Heart and Soul

Felicia, who became part of the VVC family in October 2022, brings a profound commitment to education that transcends the confines of a conventional job. “It’s more than just a job to me; it’s an integral part of who I am,” Karikari reflects. Her enthusiasm is infectious as she talks about her role, which revolves around supporting students, building enduring relationships, and becoming a cherished chapter in their life stories. Her favorite aspect of the job? “Connecting with our students - bringing a smile with a simple greeting, offering a helping hand, or guiding them in the right direction.”

Arts & Humanities: Nurturing Society’s Soul

As we celebrate Arts & Humanities Month in October, Felicia underscores the profound role that Arts & Humanities play in our collective journey. “Arts & Humanities hold a special place in our everyday lives, uniting us through shared learning and a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness,” she emphasizes. “By infusing the arts and humanities into our daily experiences, we enhance the quality of life and nurture a greater appreciation for the world around us. This fosters bold, innovative thinking, sparks creativity in critical thought, and enables us to revel in life’s simple pleasures while addressing pressing societal challenges.”

Empowering HASS Students: A Compassionate Haven

Felicia’s commitment extends to fostering an environment where HASS students flourish. She warmly describes the Student Engagement Center, thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs of each academic school at VVC. For HASS students, this means having access to learning materials, support, and resources that complement their learning journey. It’s a nurturing space where they can gather for meetings, rejuvenate their spirits, showcase their artistic talents, engage with faculty beyond the classroom, connect with fellow students, and feel embraced by the college community. The center also provides counseling support, workshops to acquire new

skills and earn extra credit, and personalized guidance with coursework, led by the caring guidance of English professor Justin Mott.

Personal Touchstones

When discussing her favorite artist, Felicia’s eyes light up as she shares her admiration for Daddy Lumba, a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and musician. Her connection to his music stems from cherished memories of her late father cooking and dancing to Daddy Lumba’s melodies. “I adore how his songs transcend time, resonating with generations. I play Daddy Lumba’s music around the house with my kids, keeping my father’s memory and warm spirit alive in a beautiful way.”

As for her favorite humanitarian, Felicia holds Harriet Tubman in deep regard, recognizing her as an embodiment of courage, generosity, and unyielding resilience.

Guiding Light for HASS Students

Felicia imparts heartfelt advice to HASS students at VVC, urging them to “cherish every step of your journey here at VVC. Build meaningful connections, seize every opportunity for personal growth, and celebrate your victories, no matter how small they may seem.”

Felicia Karikari’s genuine passion, unwavering dedication, and wholehearted commitment to education continue to inspire her colleagues and students at Victor Valley College. As she embarks on another year of service, her profound impact on the HASS community remains a testament to the power of heartdriven education.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, happening every October, is a special time dedicated to making sure young people like you understand the importance of breast health. It’s all about spreading the word on how to detect breast cancer early, offering support to those affected, and backing research to find better treatments.

During this month, you might notice pink ribbons and lots of events. They’re all part of the campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer. This is essential because knowing about the risk factors, signs, and symptoms can help save lives. Encouraging regular self-exams and mammograms for early detection can make a big difference in treating breast cancer successfully.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also about coming together as a community. You’ll see people wearing pink, sharing stories, and showing support for those battling breast cancer. It’s a reminder that we’re all in this together and that knowledge is a powerful tool. FRANKO: PERFORMING FOR THE VETS

Day tribute show is deeply personal. Her grandfather’s service in WWII, as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps, kindled her love for big band music and inspired her desire to honor veterans through her artistry.

Encouragement for Aspiring Artists

Chelsea Emma Franko, a seasoned performer, is all set to grace the stage at Victor Valley College’s Performing Arts Center (VVC PAC) on November 11th with her much-anticipated USO-style show, “Star and Stripes Forever: Salute to the Troops.” In an exclusive interview, Chelsea expressed her enthusiasm for this heartfelt Veterans Day tribute.

A Heartfelt Tribute

Franko’s show serves as a touching tribute to veterans and will feature timeless classics from the Great American Songbook, accompanied by a 10-piece band. Her goal is to pay homage to the brave individuals who have served our country while emphasizing the historical significance of music during wartime.

“I figured it would be really honoring to those that have fought for our country and our freedom,” Chelsea shared about her concert’s inspiration.

A Lifetime of Performing

Chelsea Franko embarked on her professional journey at the tender age of 12. During her formative years, she seamlessly blended her education at VVC with her passion for the stage. Fondly reminiscing about her time at

VVC, Chelsea highlighted her dual role as a performer and a student.

Connecting with Audiences

Throughout her illustrious career, Chelsea Franko has portrayed iconic characters, including notable roles at Disney, leaving an indelible mark on audiences, particularly children. Her work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation has been especially meaningful, providing moments of joy to children facing adversity.

The Disney Experience

Performing at Disneyland Resort presented challenges akin to Broadway, with the added complexity of guest photography. Chelsea emphasized the enduring enchantment of live performances and the unique dynamics of this professional journey. She shared, “Knowing that every move I made and note I sang could live on forever on the internet was a factor I hadn’t faced before working at the Disneyland Resort. It can give you a different kind of nervousness and brew a level of perfectionism that might not have existed in other settings.”

Honoring Veterans: A Personal Connection

The inspiration for Chelsea Franko’s Veterans

Chelsea offers valuable advice to budding artists, encouraging them to persist and embrace disappointments along their creative journey. “Get used to disappointment,” Chelsea says, underlining the importance of dedication and a robust support system in transforming dreams into reality.

“Don’t miss Chelsea Franko’s ‘Star and Stripes Forever: Salute to the Troops’ on November 11th at VVC PAC,” she urged, inviting everyone to join in the heartfelt tribute to veterans, a celebration of music, and an opportunity to appreciate the journey of a talented artist who embodies the spirit of gratitude.

AROUND THE HORN: Rammy’s Cosmic Scoop

Alleged ‘alien bodies’ found in Peru presented to Mexico’s congress

Howdy, folks! Rammy here, your friendly mascot from Victor Valley College, and boy, do I have an out-of-this-world story for you today! It’s not every day that we get to talk about aliens and congress in the same sentence, but hold onto your intergalactic helmets, because that’s exactly what’s been happening down south!

Now, I might be just a fuzzy ram, but I’ve got my ears perked up for all things strange and curious, especially when it involves our friends from the great unknown. So, imagine my surprise when I heard that some folks in Peru found what they’re calling “alien bodies” and decided to show them off at the Mexico Congress. It’s like an extraterrestrial showand-tell!

Okay, let’s get to the juicy details. According to a Reuters article dated September 14, 2023 (you can read it here: tinyurl.com/yc8xuh2t ), a group of researchers in Peru, known as “The Cosmic Explorers,” claimed to have stumbled upon these mysterious beings while digging around in the desert. They described these creatures as being about three feet tall, with grayish-green skin, and those trademark big, black eyes that we’ve all seen in sci-fi movies. I mean, whoa, right? It’s like they walked straight out of a Spielberg film!

Now, before we all start planning our trips to Mexico to meet our new alien buddies, hold your spaceship. The article points out that some skeptics suggest these bodies might not be as out-of-this-world as they seem. They speculate that these could be some unknown species of animals or even a clever prank. But hey, where’s the fun in that?

So, what’s the deal with the Mexico Congress, you ask? Well, according to the same Reuters article, it seems like The Cosmic Explorers didn’t want to keep their otherworldly findings to themselves. They made the trek to Mexico City to share their discovery with lawmakers. I guess they figured, if there’s going to be an interstellar welcome party, they might as well make it official!

Now, what I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall in that congressional meeting. Can you imagine the debates? “Should we offer them space visas?” “Do they pay taxes?” “Is there an intergalactic diplomacy class we can sign up for?” Oh, the questions are endless!

But hey, whether you’re a true believer in aliens or just a curious Earthling like me, one thing’s for sure: this story has got us all buzzing with excitement. Who knows, maybe we’re on the brink of a cosmic connection that could change the world as we know it. Or maybe it’s just a case of mistaken identity. Either way, it’s a space-tacular mystery that’s got us all talking.

Thanks to skeptics, it has now been revealed that Mexican doctors have been examining these otherworldly remains, and according to a recent report from the New York Post dated September 19, 2023 (you can check it out here: ( tinyurl.com/3cdv76xn ), they’re suggesting that these strange beings might be more biological than extraterrestrial.

The doctors have been conducting some indepth analyses, and their initial findings hint that these creatures could be a previously unknown biological species rather than visitors from a distant galaxy. Doctors who tested the bodies say there is “no evidence of any assembly or manipulation of the skulls.” Imagine that! It’s like a plot twist in

a blockbuster sci-fi movie. So, the mystery deepens, and the questions just keep coming. Are we on the brink of discovering a new species right here on Earth? Or could there still be some cosmic secrets waiting to be uncovered? Stay curious, my friends, because this story is getting more fascinating by the minute!

Who knows what otherworldly surprises await us? Until then, keep your eyes on the skies and your curiosity set to max, just like your ol’ pal Rammy!
