Victor Valley College held its first-ever car giveaway on Thursday, March 29, 2018 on the campus near the Student Activities Center (SAC). Students had the opportunity to get free food, enter an essay contest, win prizes, and enter to win a brand new FIAT. Any student currently enrolled and taking at least 6 units this semester had the chance to enter and possibly win the car or other small prizes. The steps to enter were check in at the booths, attain a wristband and a raffle ticket.

It was an opportunity for students to get involved. “Our main goal was to make sure that a VVC student benefited,” said ASB adviser, Robert Sewell Since the schedules of all involved and the timeline of upcoming events, the coordinators chose the date of the event accordingly, which is why students were notified the same week via their school emails.

right after Good Friday, on a Thursday hoping that as many students as possible could be there in attendance to participate. We planned for this date based off everybody's schedule.”

The giveaway took place on a Thursday, not all students were able to participate for various reasons. The ASB council offered compensation through other opportunities for students. “This was an ASB council event for students at the college. Knowing that many students would be in class and that we didn’t have the option to do this on a Saturday, we offered up some other beneficial opportunities.

Guided Pathways is a Community College based program across the nation that Community Colleges can take part in and Victor Valley College (VVC) is on board with implementing the framework.

Guided Pathways provides students with a clear approach towards achieving their goals and success while attending VVC. This is accomplished through programs like Student Success Focus Meetings, Support Program Funding Guidelines (SSSP), Equity, Basic Skills Transformation, Strong Workforce Program, and California College Promise (formally BOG fee waiver).

Guided Pathways is a structured framework system providing clear and exact career and course patterns for students to take towards completion. It also strives to provide effective college learning outcomes, celebrating student success along the way, and essentially building a community of students invested in the completion of courses that leads to career success.

VVC students are invited to take part in focused groups meetings on campus. These focus groups provide impute to the Guided Pathways Program. Focused groups enable students to share their college experiences, ideas, concerns, thoughts, opinions and educational needs of students.

Law Enforcement, like any other profession has its “good” and “bad” apples. Those in law enforcement, are held to much higher standards. As Corporal Noreen Jacquez has stated, “We’re still human beings and we also make mistakes. Just please allow us learn from and fix our mistakes.”

Victor Valley College (VVC) has 13 officers including the Chief and Sergeant on site, that are available 24hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays to anyone whom is in need of assistance. VVC police officers are here to help maintain the peace and help you feel safe. VVC police officers are sworn-in California Peace Officers that are directly hired through the school. VVC po-

lice officers are responsible for conducting public safety forums, active shooter and emergency preparedness drills, conducting building walk through, patrolling, community engagement events, building emergency coordinators (BEC), and building emergency staff (BES).

It’s important to know that if anyone on campus ever feels threatened to walk to their vehicle, students are highly encouraged to call VVC police at (760) 245-4271 Ext. 2555.

To ensure safety, anyone can call and ask for an escort to their car. The officers are here to keep everyone safe! A few things that everyone can do to assist officers, is look up when walking on campus. Corporal Jacquez says, “Start looking up and paying attention.” Instead of walking and looking at your phone, be aware of your surroundings.

While

listening to music while walking on campus, please remove at least one ear bud so that in the event of an emergency of a coming vehicle or any other potential danger can be heard; be safety minded.

Students and staff members are highly encouraged to attend the public safety forums.

VVC police create these social events so that the community can be educated on what to do during an emergency situation as well as establish a well-rounded community presence. The “Cocco with the Popo” event on March 20th was a successful event. The next two public safety forums scheduled will be during the summer and fall semesters.

Students and staff are recommended to attend on Wednesday June 27th from 10-11 A.M. or in the evening from 5:306:30 P.M. in room C located in the student activity center

(SAC), meanwhile, the fall semester public safety forum will be taking place on Thursday September 20th from 1011am and again from 5:156:15 P.M. in room B in the SAC building.

Staying informed is vital to everyone’s safety. Working with campus police is a partnership; they can’t help students and staff if the students and staff in return can’t help them. It’s important to understand that the police are here to enforce the law so that everyone knows what their rights and safety measures are.

Corporal Jacquez encourages any suggestions that might help better assist the needs of students and staff.

It’s everyone’s job make smart choices and stay vigilant while on campus. Continuing to establish a good relationship with campus police is a priority for on the campus.

Bomb Threat At CVS In Hesperia

A CVS pharmacy in Hesperia was evacuated Friday, March 30, due to a bomb threat. Customers and employees were evacuated after a call was made around 5pm.

According to Sheriff’s Spokeswoman, Cindy Bachman, “The call came in at 5:19 pm stating a male caller said there was a bomb on the roof.” The name of the man that made the call has not yet been released.

The Sheriffs responded and reported to the CVS Pharmacy on Bear Valley Road, immediately. Most of the people in the building were stunned as employees asked the customers to vacate the premises. They were asked

to leave with unpaid items still in hand.

One customer, Amber Pole, was stunned and said, “At first I was a bit taken back then it clicked in my head something wasn’t right. I just grabbed my kids and jammed out.” This was the best deci-

sion for her and her children they got away from the premises, it was determined that the threat was a hoax. Pole also states “It makes you think how easy you can be caught up in something very serious while just out getting a few things at a store.”

Deputies continued into the building and up to the roof where the bomb was supposed to have been, and there was nothing there. It is unclear if surrounding businesses such as Starbucks and Yoshi Sushi, were evacuated as well.

After the incident, Myra a supervisor at the CVS Pharmacy, stated, “We are not allowed to say anything” then after a little pause continued by stating “Yeah we aren’t allowed you can call Corporate, if you want.”

This may have only been a hoax, but the Sheriff’s responded in the professional manner and created a secure environment.

Those were about $7,000 worth of water bottles contributed by the marketing company supporting VVTA.” Free tacos were provided as courtesy of the restaurant management students, funded by ASB. “We knew that there are a lot of students who have strong feelings about VVC so ASB offered up $10,000 in awards for a 250 word essay on ‘What Does VVC Mean to Me.’ We received 289 responses that were very wellwritten so instead of $10,000, VVC students will be receiving $30,000 that came from ASB council. It’s money that got approved at the beginning of the year and we wanted to make sure that it is money that went back to the students who engage, participate in some form or fashion. We advertised that we would be giving away twenty $500 scholarships that were to be used on campus or transferred to the college that they transfer to.

would each choose a key to put into the ignition. If the key still did not work by the fourth semifinalist, then another raffle number would be called, and that ticket holder would ultimately win the car.

This ended up being the case when it came down to fourth semifinalist, Ruderic Gonzales, and the fifth semifinalist, Rashad Johnson. Gonzales tried his key and when it did not work, Johnson tried his key and the engine turned on; a confirmation of his win.

“For months I was planning on getting a car, so when I was turning the key, my life had changed for the better. I didn’t think that later on in life an opportunity like this would come out from the wood works, so praying comes a long way when you want the unexpected to happen.

I would like to thank everyone supporting me and congratulating me on winning the car. I also would like to thank all the people that are supporting me on trying to make the funds to even get the chance of driving it off the lot. Honestly, I was stressing about how I’m going to make the money to get this car. So I asked around and talked to me friends and they told me if there’s a will, there’s a way. [I also] want to give credit to my wonderful, beautiful queen, Najah Williams for being with me through this process because I was really about to rip my hair out. I can’t wait to start driving “Blessing” around town,” Johnson said.

The ASB council had anticipated a student outcome of roughly 500 - 1,000 students, which proved to be a success.

There are hopes from faculty that this goes the show the possibilities of getting involved with the opportunities that VVC has to offer.

Vice President of Student Services Dr. Karen Engelsen is motivated and dedicated to the success of the program. She gave insight about the purpose of the program. The goals and mission of program is to help students get prepared for college by helping students to become clear on their college goals with an academic plan that meets those goals clearly. The program aims to provide students with support needed in the classroom and outside of the classroom. This is accomplished by looking into student learning processes and helping students by finding ways that can provide an equitable learning outcome.

Dr. Engelsen is working with administrators, professors, advisors, counselors, and students towards a cohesive approach towards college success at VVC through this program. She explained that Guided Pathways is not just a good idea, but it is a researched proven approach.

Dr. Engelsen shared, “Guided Pathways is about the student experience, we need to be mindful of what the student’s needs, we need to provide them with support, we help students reach for those high goals, we ask them to achieve much, but we need to provide them the tools and information to help them.”

Guided Pathways will host a series of upcoming Group Forum event meetings this semester and all of next year that VVC students can attend.

Guided Pathways focused groups will be held in Student Activities Center, 2nd Floor in the quite room.

The “Fuel the Future” event at VVC is said to be the first of similar opportunities in the future.

College Students vs. Social Media By: Ariel Barrington Reporter

New communication platforms, readily available to everyone, have begun to have a psychological effect on college students. The perceptions of posts on social media platforms are having a negative,

psychological effect on students. In a random survey, conducted on Victor Valley College campus, the results were out of 60 students, 35 of

them reported suffering from negative self-esteem while using social media. This depression is affecting more than half of Victor Valley College students.

The communication platforms have changed how the millennial-age group interact with each other. Social media has reached an all-time high with billions of users from all around the world.

According to The Active Social Network Penetration in Selected Countries, as of January 2018 conducted by Statista.com, the United States was ranked in the top 10 countries who use the most social media networks. For some users, it seems that the people they follow have the perfect life, however, what is shared on those social media platforms are only the positive aspects of their life, known as “highlight reels”. Dr. Susana Flores,

Author of Face Hooked: How Facebook Affects our Emotions, Relationships and Lives describes that social media “highlight reels,” are posts that only portray the best times in a user’s life. These posts rarely show a user’s failures, personal matters such as divorce, or any negative experience. According to Clarissa Silva of The Huffington Post, “Constantly seeing those ‘highlight reels’ in a user’s narrative can lead to higher levels of loneliness, envy, anxiety, depression, narcissism and decreased social skills.”

In the survey I conducted, 37% of students reported they felt pressured to post positive comments and or images.

Meaning the standard of how a person looks online is very high and difficult to compete with. Dr. Susana Flores explains, “Research has also shown that Facebook users are becoming increasingly depressed from comparing themselves to their own profile.

Meaning that if a person’s reality does not match the dig-

ital illusion they post on their profiles, emotionally, one may feel they are not living up to the “best” form of themselves.” The one sided perceptions are affecting how college students see themselves as an individual and their self-worth.

Arely Valdez, a Communications major at VVC, stated, “Social Media is an unnecessary pressure. Those who are suffering from social media pressure should stop using it for a while so they can relieve themselves from the internet void.” Arely explained that those commenting on social media are using the anonymity of the platform to attack other users. Platforms like Twitter are open for anyone to post opinions, which can turn from an open conversation to a Twitter war. Since there is no face-to-face communication, users feel more comfortable criticizing others without the repercussions of their words.

Although social media has many benefits, it can be psychologically destructive to college students.

Spring Transfer Fair By: Keith Fox Reporter

For the past few years, Lorena Ochoa and Jasmin Santillán have successfully conducted numerous Transfer Fairs on the Victor Valley College (VVC) campus. VVC students are able to attend the Spring Transfer Fair if they were not able to attend the one held in fall. Gabriel Kelvin, an ASB Senator, stated, “This is one of the first times we’ve done two in one year, and is part of a growing interest in transfer events as started by the 2016-17 ASB in their yearly goals.”

On Wednesday May 2, 2018, between the hours of 11a.m. and 2p.m., the VVC Transfer Center will hold its second Transfer Fair for the

2017/2018 academic year. The Victor Valley College Spring Transfer Fair will be held in the courtyard of the Advanced Technology Building, Building 21 next to the Art buildings.

According to those involved in planning the event, student transfers are a success.

The fair will help make sure students have the resources available to succeed at VVC and continue their educational journey. Events, like the Spring Transfer Fair, are designed to resolve transfer related concerns and can impact the chances of some students transferring to a higher educational institution.

Brigitte Chacon is currently a VVC student hoping to transfer to Cal State San Bernardino with a Bachelor’s De-

gree in Communication Studies. She stated, “I attended a previous Transfer Center event, when representatives from other universities came to VVC, and it was very helpful. Students get the opportunity to ask questions they might have concerning their major, to see whether or not the campus of their choosing is right for the degree they want to pursue.”

Representatives from the following colleges will be at the Spring Transfer Fair: Cambridge College, UC Riverside, California Baptist University, and The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Jasmin Santillán expressed, “We are hopeful that increased attendance by students at event like the Spring Transfer Fair, will help inspire additional

colleges to come participate in the future.”

The 2018 Spring Transfer Fair is free to all students and the community. Food and drinks will be provided on a first-come, first served basis.

Victor Valley College and the Transfer Center invite all who are interested to be a part of the event to engage and better plan their educational future.

SMALL CHANGE, BIG DIFFERENCE By: Kim Avelino Reporter

Waste is an underrated problem, but it is a concern for many colleges. College students can make simple changes to reduce waste. Reusable water bottles are one of the easiest ways to cut down on trash. According to a research from the University of California around the world people buy a million plastic bottles per minute. Most water bottles will end up in landfills and or the ocean. One reusable bottle will held reduce the waste.

Water fountains were primarily used in the public K-12 school systems. Throughout the years, the use of water fountains has declined and they are left untouched. Mostly because people are concerned with water safety and the lack of hygiene that these water fountain have. Recently, school systems have been putting water bottle filling stations around their campuses as an alternative to plastic water bottles.

According to the Beverage Market Corporation, the amount of US bottle water consumption has increased four times since 1987 to 2014.

Through out many US campuses, water bottle filling stations has been available for people with reusable water bottles. UC Irvine installed about 160 water bottle filling

Irvine into a zero waste campus. Julie Sagusay is the food service manager at UC Merced and she has implemented the use of reusable food containers. At UC Merced one third

station and it is making a huge difference. Each year the campus avoids using an average of 3 million plastic water bottles per year. The reusable water bottle filling stations at the University of California system has been preparing their campuses to become zero waste.

Anne Krieghoff, the Recycling Manager at UC Irvine, states that waste minimization is more important than recycling. Her goal is to make UC

Students check out the containers and return them to a machine where they are washed and ready to be reused. This policy has spread to a few universities and a couple of hospitals around the nation.

Victor Valley College installed hydration stations where students can refill and

reuse their water bottles. Currently, there are four hydration stations on the campus. One in the ATC building, two in the Student Activity Center, and one in the Adapted P.E building. Katie, from ASB, said there will be a station in the gym next year and there are plans to install more over the next couple of years.

Many college students get their food to-go from fast food restaurants. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, packaging makes up for the largest category for municipal waste. All single use items make up for 10% for all of United States discards. Single use items take a lot of resources to make, and are discarded after the one use.

All those disposable plastic items are going to landfills and it takes more resources to replace them. It is better to reduce and reduce than to recycle. Bringing your own cup for fast food is an alternate option to the disposable drinks at fast food restaurants.

Be a Pioneer: Start A Club On Campus

Clubs on campus benefit every student differently.

From helping them with difficult class work, to giving them a friendly face to confide in.

Clubs also give out scholarships, have bake sales, and community cleanups. Clubs are important because they affect students’ lives on a daily basis. The clubs on the Victor Valley College (VVC) campus act as the front line of

defense in combating all types of social anxieties. No one wants to be dropped into a new school, surrounded by new people, feeling lost and out of place. That’s where the clubs come in handy.

There are a total of 20 clubs at any one time active on the campus. The clubs range from, The Ready Rams, which is a community service club.

Model United Nations, a debate team, which in fact debates worldly political issues against schools like Harvard,

UCLA, USC, and Claremont McKenna. Other clubs include: Black Scholars United, Rams Rhythmic Dance Club, Biology Club, The Ramblers, Gay Straight Alliance, and so many more. There is a place for all of our VVC students to feel safe and comfortable outside of the class on the VVC campus.

According to a member of the Model United Nations club, Aurelia Dennis, “being in this club has made me a better public speaker, built up

my self-confidence, and I have made, lifelong friends. I have learned skills that will be invaluable to me in the future.”

Starting a club is as easy as finding five currently enrolled students that share the same interest and who are also all ASB card holders. Students who want to share their passions and interests with others that may feel the same way about a certain cause or subject.

She stressed the importance of privacy in her life, which as she stated, “can be difficult to maintain do to the ever increasing inclusiveness of social media in our everyday lives”. She does however, have Instagram, which is a main source of her social outlet. She uses it as a way of self-expression for her love of nature. Welcome to the OASIS By: Keith Fox Reporter Director Steven Spielberg does not disappoint with the latest edition to his film making legacy.

Spielberg’s adaptation of science fiction novel, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, has something for just about everyone to enjoy.

Viewers are supplied with performances by: Ben Mendelsohn [Rogue One, The Dark Knight Rises] as the primary protagonist, T.J. Miller [Deadpool, Silicon Valley] as an additional but a bit more lovable villain, and Olivia Cooke [Me, Earl, & The Dying Girl] as heroine/ revolutionary/ love interest. Performances by other cast members do not fall short. Even the smallest character adds something to the Ready Player One experience.

Whether you’re particular to science fiction, altered vehicles and monster trucks, enjoy odes to 90’s slasher movies and movie monster legends, or a fan of references for millennial and pre-millennial generations, Ready Player One keeps viewers on an ultimate nostalgic ride throughout the film. There are aspects of adventure as with movies like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and The Goonies.

Levels of struggle in morale as with Saving Private Ryan, and Catch Me if You Can. There is even a vibe of one his most critically acclaimed portrayals of the past, as produced in Lincoln, where a sense of an importance of history of another time evolves throughout the story. There is even a touch of romance with the inclusion of a small love story, for those in need of more a tug at the heart.

Ready Player One not only provides those watching with a heavy pallet for nostalgic references across generations, but also serious references to social and economic dilemma. The movie takes place in the year 2044, where economic and social strife are escaped through a virtual world know as The OASIS, created by James Halliday. The protagonist Wade Watts [Tye Sheridan] is on a hunt for clues towards victory in a competition taking place in The OASIS. The player who becomes successful, to inherit Halliday’s fortune and complete control over

The OASIS. In addition to corporate-laced antagonists, to adversaries that are simply out to win as general participants in the competition, Ready Player One dives into more detrimental topics. Global warming, a struggling world, lack of resources, social and economic frailty, revolution, and stories of hope and struggle, all help to add substance to what might otherwise be a nostalgic overdose for viewers.

Eventually the film gives the opportunity to witness the “realpeople” behind the virtual avatars, when Watts is introduced to more drama, as the trials and extremities of OASIS seep into the real world, saturating people’s everyday lives.

Ready Player One hit theaters March 29th. This film has something for everyone of all ages. It is a highly recommended watch.

The film has much to offer viewers, and a second or third viewing is suggested. You might witness something that maybe you didn’t catch the first or second time around.

A Quiet Place By: Leticia Stevens Reporter “A Quiet Place” was a film that starred actress Emily Blunt and actor/director John Krasinski. The film grossed a world wide amount of nearly 92 million dollars and was rated by critics as an eight out ten star kind of film and did well on its opening weekend grossing a 50 million dollar amount. As John Krasinski’s directorial debut, the film is based entirely on a single family living their life in complete silence or else.

The great “or else” is what really makes this movie suspenseful and quite terrifying.

The silence is what ultimately allows the film to be suspenseful and brings many jump scares from a viewers standpoint. From the very beginning of the film, the Abbot family consisted of three children, a husband, and a pregnant wife. Within the first thirty minutes of the movie, the reason for why there must be an intense amount of silence is told. There are creatures that will kill and hunt anything or anyone that makes sound. The one thing that made the movie seem extremely “cheesy” is the poor animation of when the “creature” is actually shown in the film. The “creature” in itself could have been animated a lot better because the poor quality made the film seem less terrifying. Overall this film is good movie full of suspense that would be rated a six out of ten star film.

Although fans were unsure about how to feel about the medium he used to release his album, they were not unsure about the quality of the album itself. Never has there been an album released by such a popular electronic music artist like Zimmerman where the artist takes old electronic music and makes it into a new orchestral track. To those familiar with his old electronic renditions of Imaginary Friends, Ira, and Superbia, the new orchestral take on the already spectacular beats make for an overwhelming sense of astonishment.

Personally, it gave me a bit of chills hearing the tracks done in such a new and beautiful

Battle of the Battle Royales By: Mitchell Bovee Editor Over the past year, one genre of video games has taken the world by storm, Battle Royales. Battle Royale games have a large number of players, usually up to at least 100 fighting until only one player is left standing. An idea first made popular by the Japanese book and movie Battle Royale, and later the Hunger Games franchise, it’s a game mode that has been around for years, but only recently became such a worldwide phenomenon.

With the two main games in the genre becoming massive hits, both financially, and critically, it’s is a craze that many game developers are trying to cash in on before it’s too late.

“Live the Revolution”

By Isaac Pieper Reporter Zauntee, a rapper putting Christ in his rhymes. From his hometown of Tampa, Florida, this 18 year-old has made a name for himself. In an interview with Chris Chicago on Rapzilla.com he explained that he started writing music at age 10 and started producing at age 14. As an artist, he does his best to convey his love for Christ and his passion to change the world with his signature tag, the “Zealot Gang”. Zauntee explains, “A zealot is one who is radical and uncompromising in their belief.”

and effective. The message is hyped and can reel in a soul tied up in knots with the distractions and disturbances of the world. Zauntee brings an energy to the stage that is contagious to the crowd.

He went public in 2017 and dropped his first song "God Taught Me" that has captured more than 2 million views on YouTube. He stated, “ I just wanted to get like 20,000 views and I would have been so happy. When God uses you, you don’t question it, you just keep rocking with it.” People are able to locate his music on Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube. He’s on the verge of signing a record deal and could potentially be col-

laborating with Lecrae, one of the originators of Christian hip hop in the early 2000s. In 2017 he was named the New Artist of the Year for the Rapzilla Awards Show, as well as winning the award for the Best Music Video of the Year and Rapzilla Freshman of the Year. He has not created an official album yet, but is in the process of making more singles collaborating with Steven Malcolm, another rapper on Rapzilla. Barstow Takes Home The W in

On April 3, on their home field, Victor Valley College’s (VVC) Softball team suffered a loss against Barstow’s Community College. The final score 5-7.

Tensions were running high between the VVC women’s and the Barstow women’s team. The game started off rough with Barstow scoring two runs in the first inning to VVC’s one. Things only got worse for VVC in the next inning. VVC didn’t score any runs and this continue until the fifth inning.

Barstow however, managed to score a run in the fourth inning, and 3 runs by their fifth inning; leading VVC by 2 runs. After the game, coach Richard (Ricky) Thomas, said when asked what emotions he was feeling said, “Frustration.” In response to what he plans to do next, Thomas said “I want to work on our team’s base coverage, big time. And also work on our routine plays so, we can have a better chance for a win.”

Once the proper papers are filed, the next step is to visit an ASB and present your packet. The packets are look at by the council members, and questions, if there are any, those would be asked at this

time from both the council and the soon-to-be club. After which, there’s a vote, new clubs to be chartered receive $100 dollars in their account, and re-chartered clubs receive $50 in their account from the ASB club budget.

With all of these amazing clubs and students available every day, there’s no doubt that it will open up a whole new world for our socially conscious and musically talented students to express themselves and their interest.

March Finally Lost It’s Mind

One of the greatest annual tournaments in sports once again did not disappoint as Villanova won the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament after defeating Michigan 79 to 62. During this year’s NCAA College Basketball Tournaments new heroes emerged, the old guard began to fall, and buzzers were beaten as “March Madness” returned.

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament contains 68 different division one teams from 32 different college conferences. Those teams are then broken up into four different regions to compete in a singleelimination tournament to determine the champions of division one college basketball for the year. The teams are seeded by a selection committee that ranks each team in each conference from one to sixteen.

The tournament runs through the majority of March and ends on April 2nd with the championship game in San Antonio Texas.

This year’s tournament has been defined by the underdogs as the lower seeds of the tournament have had unprecedented success.

There was a historic upset as sixteen seeded University of Baltimore County (UMBC) defeated one of the number one

seeds in the University of Virginia. This was the first time in college basketball history that a sixteen seed had defeated a one seed. The one seed had gone 132 games without being defeated in the first round but it finally happened this year.

Virginia was not the only high -ranking seed to go out early as North Carolina, Xavier, and Arizona joined Virginia as teams with high expectations to leave the tournament within the first two rounds.

Shocking upsets were very common in the tournament and those were exemplified by a little school out of Chicago who made the Final Four of the tournament.

LoyolaChicago, an 11 seed in the tournament, made a shocking run to the final four of the tournament led by guards Brad Richardson and Clayton Custer. This tournament appearance was the first for the school since 1985. Loyola’s turbulent road started when Loyola upset the University of Miami in the first round. Then

seventh seed, Nevada, to win their region. Loyola joined 3 other schools in the final four each with more tournament experience than Loyola.

The final four teams in the tournament ended up being Michigan, Vilanova, Kansas and the unexpected LoyolaChicago. Despite Loyola's great effort in the tournament, Loyola ended up losing to Michigan in their final four

they would go on to defeat third seed, Tennessee, and

After those last two games, the stage was set for the final game, Villanova ended up taking the game from Michigan by a score of 79 to 62.

This win gave the Villanova Wildcats their second National Championship in three years after they had defeated the University of North Carolina in 2016.

Villanova also won every game in the tournament by at least 10 points becoming the first team to do that since North Carolina in 2009.

This year’s tournament, once, again gave fans thrills and unforgettable moments and showed why March is truly mad.
