Every two seconds there is a patient who needs a blood transfusion. There are 38% of people in the United States who are eligible to donate blood. Only about 5% of people actually donate. Students attending Victor Valley College (VVC), should take interest in donating at the local Lifestream Donor Center in Hesperia. Students on campus should donate. Francesca Camarena, from LifeStream, said, “Our mission statement is to help save lives for people in need
through donors.” Blood is composed of three main components and those are: red blood cells, plasma, and platelets. While getting blood drawn, for platelets and plasma it takes about 2 to 3 hours. For this reason, the donor gets hooked up to a machine and the blood goes through a process. This process starts to separate the components and returns the components not
needed back into the body. Palates are very important to donate because it expires within five days including the process it goes through. For whole blood, the process takes about an hour. For this reason is that the donor needs to register, have a screening and miniphysical, donate, and the re-energize in the canteen area. This type of blood expires within 90 days. Kendrick Lamar left his fans once again shocked with the release of his newest album DAMN. Kendrick Lamar is a Compton raised, new-generation rapper who has a tendency to connect his lyrics to his fans. His three hit singles “LOVE”, “LOY-ALTY”, and “HUMBLE” made the album DAMN successful. Kendrick Lamar was previously known as K-Dot before changing his stage name to Kendrick Lamar. He stated during a radio interview that he change his stage name to Kendrick Lamar because he wanted his audience to know his music reflected on the person he is. five awards at the Grammys ceremony for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video and Best Rap Song Performance. In an interview from MTV News’, Gaby Wilson, Lamar confirms a fan theory. He talks about how DAMN was meant to be listen to backwards. He mentions about the contradiction and the duality of the album. Listening to the album backwards does indeed give out a new vibe and we can hear the contraction to that specific order. It’s confusing to hear Lamar rap about being “HUMBLE” but then hearing him brag about royalty and how it’s in his “DNA”. Nonetheless, we can hear how he tries to show positivity Continued on Page 10…

in to donate. Fainting is possible. The blood a donor donates will then go through a process of labs. Lifestream has many contracts with hospitals all throughout Southern California. The hospital your blood transfers too are the local and trauma centers. Trauma centers are important because it is where all the patients with major accidents go to. For example, traumatic car crash injuries, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, brain trauma, and horrible burns. One pint of blood can save three lives. On average, there are about 25 to 30 people who donate a day at the Victorville center according to Francesca Camarena. In the aftermath of the Las Vegas concert shooting, she explained how there was about 180 people who donated a day. There was so many teenagers and adults that she would have to send them away perhaps to another Lifestream Center. Last semester, Lifestream visited VVC three times. Not as many people donated blood. To donate blood, Lifestream is open every day from 7:30am-3:00pm Monday-, Wednesday, Friday-Sunday, and 9:00am-4:30pm Tuesday and Thursday. Students, look for the Lifestream RV out by the Students’ Activity Center this semester. Donors can give a precious gift to the receiving end. Every time Lifestream is on campus, donate for the right cause.
