ASB Card Benefits

Do you have an ASB card? You might have access to some great benefits.

Students who purchase an ASB card may not realize it, but the card actually provides a lot of great benefits. With an ASB card, you can print up to 10 pages a day in the computer lab at the office, receive free tickets to college plays and athletic events, discounts at local businesses, and starting this fall students will receive a brand new benefit.. A discount card!

This year will be the first time ASB cardholders receive a discount card, and it’s packed full of great discounts from local businesses and participating chains in the high desert.

Food insecurity is a real and growing issue in the state of California. To help alleviate some of the stress, Victor Valley College has opened up a food pantry for students called The Peak. The pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and is located on the second floor in the Student Activities Center (Building 44). Hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Peak is open to all students with a current ID card.

Your Degree At VVC Victor Valley College offers a wide range of degrees in various academic disciplines. Degrees in Associates in Science (AS) are awarded in Math/Science and technical areas. Associates in Arts (AA) degrees are complete in areas of Liberal Arts and Fine Arts disciplines. VVC has a vast collection of Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T and AS-T) to choose from, all of which are listed below. All degrees do consist of 18 unites or more. Associate Degrees for Transfer has specific course requirements. Some degrees depend upon application and admissions into the program. See the 2017-2018 College Catalog and a counselor for full details on degrees you are interested in.

Multiple Degrees are A Breeze Did you know you can get multiple degrees at VVC? Well, it’s true, you sure can. While working toward one degree you can use your general education classes and elective classes to obtain multiple degrees. Some courses can even count twice and be used toward acquiring multiple degrees. Careful planning is required to achieve more than one degree. Make sure to speak with a counselor about your degree and any other coinciding degrees that VVC offers. Why have one degree when you can have two? It’s time to shoot for the stars.

It’s A Gas Victorville Motors is teaming up with local high schools to offer students with perfect attendance the chance to drive away as the owner of a brand-new vehicle. Eligible students can win a Fiat 500, Jeep Renegade, or Ram 1500. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a participating high school and maintain perfect attendance for the 2017-2018 school year and be in grades 9 through 12.

The program ends on March 30, 2018; eligible students must be present at the event on Saturday, April 28, 2018, to claim their prize. For more information on the program and to find out how to enter go to the website. www.victorvillemotors.com/itsagas.htm

We’ve Got Skills Edwin Diaz, a student from Victor Valley College’s Aviation Technology Program, won the silver medal in the Skills U.S.A. National Ceremony. Now celebrating its 53rd year as an annual event, the ceremony was held in Louisville, Kentucky June 19-23, 2017.

Thousands of students and teachers come from schools around the country to represent about 100 hands-on trades with more than 16,000 participants on average. On the first day of the ceremony, student leaders began by implementing a code of parliamentary procedure which they use as a tool for guidance in leadership building and team strengthening.

Students spent the second day trying their best to beat the clock and outwit each other, testing their competency level of the task and logic involved. Congratulations Edwin!

Clubs Make a Difference The Japanese have a proverb; steel sharpens steel. With people, those that you surround yourself with influence you in any number of ways. Whether or not one is aware of this is independent of that fact.

Though Victor Valley College offers a vast array of tools to build yourself with, clubs are one of the best to sharpen the steel of your character. They offer almost infinite opportunities to a person willing to take advantage of them. Or better still, a platform to create them.

Those Clubs that already exist at Victor Valley College are a type of legacy. They are the ambitions of students past, made real. Shared dreams and goals that gave purpose to their members while they navigated their educational path. And that path is open for you to take as well.

VVC has been home to many clubs, all as diverse as those students who helped found them.

Each is its own unique attempt to reach out for like-minded individuals. Each Club has its own purpose for existing. All you need do is find one that resonates with you. If there's a lack there of, then it's your chance to fix that with a club of your own!

The process is easy. Simply gather a small group of students (5-6) to form the clubs council, find a faculty member who can act as your advisor, fill out a charter packet, and then give it to ASB for review at their next meeting. From there the ASB will decide if the club should be approved. If they have questions about the clubs nature they can ask the members who attend that meeting to speak for the club.

This gets to why clubs are exceptionally important. They address the needs and interests of students that otherwise would be lost against the background noise of VVC. The faculty do their best to attend the needs of the students at large. The ASB does its best to provide services and a direct link between the upper levels of the college and its students. Clubs help strengthen that link by interacting with students on a personal level the ASB could only dream of. That's why we need them.

Fun for Everyone At VVC we love to help students and get them involved. One of the ways that we do that is by hosting events on campus. Our Welcome Week event was Monday, August 28 through Thursday August 31 from 10am to 2pm in the Student Activities Center (Building 44). ASB encouraged students to come out to get important information on student services, athletics, academics and more. Food was provided for students who attended.

On September 11, our memorial event started at 6:30 a.m. Over 100 students joined as we remembered those we lost on that day. During that week we also held Club Rush starting on Monday , September 11 and running through Thursday, September 14. Many came out to learn more about all of our clubs on campus and many signed up for one. Our events always include information, food, and most importantly fun, so please come out and learn about everything the college has to offer!

VVC Athletics

Victor Valley College supports students to participate in its athletic programs. This encourages students to continue to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout their lifetime. VVC athletics include football, softball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, golf, soccer, cross country, beach volleyball, and baseball. Victor Valley College is a member of the Foothill Athletic Conference and competes with other community colleges, California State and University junior varsity teams, private colleges, and service teams. Students athletes are granted up to two years of eligibility per sport. To participate in the athletic programs a student needs to be enrolled in 12 units. These units must also be completed with a “C� or better grade point average in order to be eligible for the second year. There are other factors that are essential in determining eligibility, and athletes should consult with the Eligibility Evaluator. All varsity athletic classes meet 10 laboratory hours per week for 3 units.

What You Need to Know About Route 42

Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) is now providing a new route from Victor Valley College to the Regional Public Safety Training Center. Route The new route also includes stops at St Mary’s Hospital, Los Ranchos Mobile Home Park, Walmart Distribution Center, and the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center

The new route opens up opportunities for many Apple Valley residents. According to Victorville Mayor and VVTA Chair Gloria Garcia, it’s only the first wave of improvements. Victor Valley College students can use their student ID to ride for free.
