Robert Pointer contributes an intense and active perspective, while also quietly illustrating the hardiness of the human spirit. His work features a large collection of rock climbers, with each climber poised near the topmost point of rugged cliffs. Breathtakingly vast landscapes stretch out below and threaten to swallow the tiny climber at one wrong move, but never take the focus off of the primary subject, who always stays securely in view. The strength and fortitude of the individual in the face of a daunting obstacle, and the thrill of a risky escapade are securely intertwined.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Upon first entering the exhibit Outdoor Adventures, one is struck by the sheer range of outdoor activities displayed from our local communities from summer activities of canoeing, rock climbing and slow countryside drives to winter sports of skiing and ice climbing. Even more profound however, is the distinct touch each artist provides to create a compelling viewing experience.
The exhibit closes with Mary Jane Jones, who beautifully captures all that a local winter has to offer, as well has her passion for skiing. Local skiers will recognize the sloping hills of the Blue Mountains Ski Resort and the striking view of the Georgian Bay from its peak. If one observes Mary Jane’s work long enough, they would almost be able to hear the soft thrum of a lift chair working its way to the top and relive the moment of absolute tranquility as one pauses at the peak of a hill before flying down to the bottom. With winter around the corner, it is almost time to dig out the skis and poles!
Gordon Walker highlights vintage vehicles, with familiar locations often forming the backdrop a Gullwing and its owner parked long side the beautiful shore of Southampton, a Bugatti meandering along County Road 40 on its way to the distant Blue Mountains. They give nod to those weekend summer afternoons with a car, the endless possibilities of adventure and a destination of nowhere.

Robert Pointer is a Canadian artist, educator, and musician working in Grey County. His artwork has been on exhibit since the 1970's. A figurative artist, he primarily creates intimate paintings from observation or relating to direct personal experience in acrylic, or oil on canvas. A post modern artist, his paintings can be in the realist, impressionist, or abstract tradition depending on his subject and intention. As a teacher with the Peel District School Board, he taught grades 4 to 7 for over 25 years with a specialty in the arts. After retiring in 2014, Robert Pointer continues to exhibit his art at galleries and shows. His exploration of the themes of wildlife, cottage country tranquility and exuberance, aging and a life lived, and the contrasts of rural and urban life keep him inspired.
Robert Pointer is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts. Jones, a passionate skier and golfer, has been painting Blue Mountain and other ski areas for many years. Her acrylic paintings hang in several dozen private and public collections and her artwork has been chosen for banners in both Collingwood and Thornbury. MJ studied art at the University of Toronto and taught art in elementary and high school. She co led the Blue Mountain Foundation Tour of the Arts for several years. She currently shows at the Loft Gallery and the Pottery Restaurant at Blue Mountain. Come and enjoy. Eighteen years ago Gord Walker’s lifelong love of cars, motorcycles and racing collided with a rediscovered interest in sketching and painting from his teenage years.The result was his first automobile painting. To his surprise, Gord won an award in the first national automotive art competition he entered. Since then he’s published illustrated articles, exhibited his art in galleries and at autoshows across Canada. His work has been featured in dozens of online and print publications and newspapers throughout North America. A collection of Gord’s paintings of classic Jaguar automobiles was on display at the Toronto launch of the 2003 Jaguar XJ sedan. His paintings have been commissioned by collectors in both Canada and the U.S. In addition, Gord has exhibited his work at the Concours d’Elegance of America as well as the Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance, a breathtaking venue on Georgian Bay north of Owen Sound , Ontario.
