Steven Fuller Austin

My Ancestry

Recently I discovered that the grandfather of Steven and Moses Austin, the founders of Texas, and my grandfather were brothers and my grandfather was Richard Austin one of the early colonists of what is now Boston. Richard was a Puritan who fled England because of religious persecution. Jane Austin is my cousin as well. Steven Austin (The Father of Texas) negotiated Texas out of the hands of both Mexico and Spain. His father Moses was a wealthy mining mogul.

My 6th great grandfather was a Patriot and fought in the revolution for independence from England. He also married a Cherokee woman.

I also learned that my family has roots in Russian Judaism and are from a Jewish settlement called Kovno in Lithuania. Many of them met their fate there during the Nazi invasions. Kovno was a death camp where over 80,000 were killed.

My Palm springs studio is around 5000 feet above the Palm Springs Valley on Santa Rosa Mountain that is a national monument. In the distance are the San Jacinto and San Bernardino Mountain ranges.
