There is a lively urgency in this book’s narrative descriptions of séances and lectures on spiritualism. The theme is one where Christianity and Spiritualism are at opposite ends of a spectrum of truth, each determined to prove its arguments and proofs to be the superior one. A valuable consequence of this debate is how the reality of immortal life and many important truths related are then brought more forcefully and meaningfully into the discussion. Certainly there is a wide swath of spiritualism truths and information about the next world. I was also happy to see so many of these spiritualism trips taking place in the Great Lakes, especially in my home state of Michigan. It would seem to me that while people are more open-minded nowadays, the spiritual fervor was greater back then. This may also a major reason why a century ago, based on the past writings, it does seem that there was a greater interaction between the spirit and mortal worlds back then as opposed to now.
