In the early 1980s, a quartet of visionary entrepreneurs – Augusto C Lagman, Herman T Gamboa, Benjamin A Santos, and Edgar H Sarte – united with a shared mission: to establish the Systems Technology Institute (STI). Their collective ambition was to create an educational institution specializing in imparting fundamental programming knowledge to both aspiring professionals and students eager to embrace this burgeoning skill set

S T

In a significant milestone, the inaugural STI institutions were unveiled on August 21, 1983, marking the commencement of a remarkable journey in Buendia, Makati, and España, Manila These pioneering schools were dedicated to offering fundamental computer programming courses Armed with an exceptional and superior educational offering, the expansion of the STI franchise was swift, facilitated by the founders' extensive business networks. Just one year after the launch of the first two schools, the franchise footprint expanded to encompass STI Binondo, Cubao, and Taft.

The distinguishing factor that set the STI brand apart at that time was its unique value proposition: "First We'll Teach You, Then We'll Hire You" This groundbreaking concept was realized through the innovative Guaranteed Hire Program (GHP), which ensured that all qualified graduates received employment opportunities either within one of the founders' companies or through their industry connections.

The very first batch of STI graduates, consisting of eleven individuals, was swiftly absorbed into the workforce by Systems Resources Incorporated The GHP continued to thrive, enabling numerous qualified STI graduates to embark on fulfilling careers directly aligned with their chosen fields of interest, right after completing their studies.

INone among the four founders could have foreseen that the Systems Technology Institute would eventually evolve into a full-fledged college or expand its reach to encompass over 100 institutions throughout the country Yet, these achievements were made possible due to the institution's exceptional value proposition, the synergistic collaboration between the founders and their dedicated staff, and the unwavering commitment of the management to maintain high educational standards.

Since its inception, STI has traversed a remarkable path, ingraining itself deep within the globally competitive landscape. It has transcended beyond the realms of information and communication technology (ICT) and education, effectively addressing the ever-growing demand for graduates who are not just educated but also job-ready

CHOLAMARIEB IGLESIAS STIGENSANPROFFESSIONALS,THATGRADUATEDATSTICOLLEGE

Chola Marie B. Iglesias, a dedicated teacher at STI Gensan, originally hails from Cotabato and began her educational journey at STI Cotabato before making her way to General Santos City. She completed her elementary education at Cotabato City Central Pilot School and finished high school at Notre Dame of Cotabato. Chola Marie, an exemplary teacher, proudly graduated as a BSIT student from STI Cotabato in 2017.

On September 19, 2023, Ms. Chola Marie had an interview with Ms Reyna Magsipoc, a BSIT student from BSIT 1-1BP, during which she shared her experiences as an STI student Regarding her choice of BSIT, Chola Marie explained, "I don't actually have a specific reason, just like many others I chose BSIT because it was the only available scholarship option for me, so it felt like I didn't have much of a choice." This situation is increasingly common among college graduates who often select their courses based on similar practical considerations. When asked about how long she had planned her career, Ms. Chola Marie responded, "For one year or less, like I only planned my career choice when I was almost graduating."

Ms. Chola Marie realized that her course was the right fit for her when she said, "I realized that it is the right path for me because I feel satisfied and fulfilled when my students learn. I genuinely enjoy witnessing my students' growth in the IT field."

However, after graduating from her course, Ms. Chola Marie faced difficulties. She explained, "First, I planned to work in the IT industry, but after graduating, I discovered that the job requirements and qualifications were quite high, with many employers seeking a minimum of two years of experience. Being a fresh graduate, it was challenging for me to break into the competitive IT industry That's why I explored alternative options so that my four years of studying IT wouldn't go to waste."

Ms. Chola Marie shared her stressmanagement strategy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good health. She firmly believes in the saying, "Health is Wealth," recognizing that no matter how hard one works or how well-compensated they are, neglecting their health can lead to excessive medical expenses and hospitalization. According to her, the first step is prioritizing rest, particularly ensuring an adequate amount of sleep. She emphasizes that regardless of pending tasks, she always makes time for sufficient sleep because she understands that good health is paramount. Ms. Chola Marie's approach underscores the value of wellbeing as the foundation for success and financial stability.

Ms. Chola Marie shared her experience as a student, saying, "I did enjoy my life as an STI student, but I wasn't really into school activities like intramurals or college days. Those types of activities didn't really appeal to me. What I truly enjoyed was working with programming."

"One piece of advice I can offer to students who are facing difficulties is to never give up. Always remember that there's a new day ahead, and tough times will eventually pass. So, even on the most stressful and challenging days, remind yourself that 'this too shall pass,' and tomorrow will bring a fresh start. You will make it through today, and tomorrow may not be as tough. Always find joy in life, even when facing difficulties. If you're struggling, keep moving forward, focus on learning, and don't be too hard on yourself. That's my advice to students dealing with academic and life challenges."

This is Ms Chola Marie's counsel to students facing difficulties in their studies and life.

This is the remarkable story of Ms Chola Marie B. Iglesias, an exceptional teacher who serves as an inspiration to STI students, guiding them on their path to pursuing and achieving their dreams. Her journey exemplifies the ethos of reaching for the skies and setting ambitious goals with the support of STI. Fly high and aim high with STI, where dreams take flight and ambitions soar.

STI ALUM NIS:

MICHAELPHILIPB.FAVILA

When Michael Philip B. Favila, an esteemed alumnus of STI, initially caught wind of STI College through a radio broadcast, little did he anticipate that this serendipitous moment would propel him on a remarkable odyssey, eventually culminating in his present role as the Head of Engineering at the globally acclaimed digital banking powerhouse, Maya.

Hailing from the tranquil shores of Cagayancillo, a remote island nestled in the heart of Palawan province, Favila's life took an unexpected turn as he tuned in to the radio that fateful day. Destiny, it seemed, had orchestrated this fortuitous encounter

Michael Philip B Favila, a proud graduate of STI, eloquently recounts his transformative journey during his time at STI College, sharing his inspirational narrative and the invaluable values he gleaned from his educational experience. When asked about the principles he acquired over his four-year sojourn with the institution, Favila poignantly remarked, "It's all about understanding. I habitually place myself in others' shoes before reacting or responding to any situation"

Reflecting on his STI experience, Favila further expounded, "In retrospect, it was an enjoyable journey I was a young student who may not have initially taken college seriously, but upon introspection, I consistently recognize that STI provided me with a solid foundation to kickstart my personal and professional journey," he affirmed.

STI ALUM NIS:

MARYCLAREINONOG

Pursuing one's dreams often entails encountering failures and facing rejection along the way, as exemplified by Mary Clare Inonog, a determined 2-year graduate in Hotel and Restaurant Services from STI College Taft. Her arduous journey to realizing her aspiration of becoming an international flight attendant spanned six years, entailed 24 attempts, and endured 22 heart-wrenching rejections Her story is nothing short of inspiring.

Hailing from Santa Ana, Manila, Clare initially harbored aspirations of becoming a neurologist. However, as the eldest of three daughters in a family supported by a private nurse and an FX driver, she realized the financial strain of pursuing that path. A new dream blossomed when her cousin embarked on a career as a flight attendant with an international airline, opening Clare's eyes to a world of boundless opportunities soaring high abovetheclouds

Upon graduating from STI College at the age of 18, Clare embarked on a determined journey to become a cabin crew member for various airlines Her initial rejection fueled her determination to improve herself, leading her to work on her presentation skills and weight management During this process, Clare gained valuable experience in the hospitality industry through positions at Pancake House and Solaire Additionally, roles as a Call Center Agent and Career Adviser at STI College Taft enhanced her ability to engage with diverse people. These seemingly unconventional detours played a crucial role in shaping her into a seasoned professional, potentially offering her a competitive edge in the service industry

Mary Clare Inonog offers sage advice to recent graduates, urging them not to fear failure. She emphasizes that rejections and setbacks are integral parts of the journey towards success. Clare's inspiring story embodies grace, quiet resilience, and humility as she persevered through numerous obstacles, including selfdoubt and health issues, to reach her dream destination. Her unwavering motivation stems from the support of her family and loved ones, empowering her to confront challenges headonandcontinuetosoartogreaterheights.

A notable alumna of STI Gensan, she is renowned as one of the outstanding teachers at the institution. She completed her education at STI Gensan, earning her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) degree.

Ana May Kyla C. Seno is an BSIT student if STI, she interviewed Ms. Allysa. She asked the first question “Why did you choose your course?” Ms. Allysa answered her question, "I didn't really choose it initially. At first, I enrolled for IT because my cousin, who was in computer engineering, encouraged me. He said IT was a good choice." And she also added, "Initially, my first choice was to pursue culinary, but I didn't receive any encouragement for it. Then, I was discouraged from taking that course, so I eventually decided to pursue IT."

Ms. Allysa shared her first step as a freshman graduate of STI, she stated that "After completing my degree, I entered the workforce and initially worked as an insurance coordinator, which involved paperbased tasks unrelated to computer science or IT. The lack of satisfaction and the repetitive nature of the job led me to resign. I then transitioned to the field of networking and tech support, where I found more challenge and fulfillment in my career."

Ms. Allysa shared her experience as a student, saying, "Yes, I enjoyed my STI college life, because STI isn't very strict, it's not strict in comparison to other schools. For example, in my friend's case, they're pursuing medical courses in a different school, and it's very strict there. But in my case, it feels more relaxed." She also shared the difficulties she experienced while studying, "During our thesis, it was really challenging in terms of the process. However, you can achieve it step by step. You just need to set goals for yourself, like for this week, I need to accomplish this."

Ms. Allysa shared her motivation and gave advice to the students, saying, "Just relax and take some chill time. It's important to strike a balance because if you're constantly focused on studying, you might lose the enjoyment in your life. For instance, if you're always fixated on getting good grades without relishing the learning process, it can be a problem. Try to find joy in the process, and if you're struggling with something, don't hesitate to ask for help if possible. You can do it!"
