Staying Active & Well After Retirement
For many Road Scholars, retirement is not synonymous with sitting back and relaxing — but it can be synonymous with work of a different kind, including passion projects, volunteering and traveling. We asked Road Scholars on Facebook how they make their health and wellness a priority after retiring, and they responded with some great suggestions!
“I bought a small vintage trailer and have been traveling around the country camping.” —MARTHA F.
“Discovered the Fabulous50s YouTube workouts during the first year of the pandemic (my second year of retirement) and have become a daily exerciser for the first time in my life! I volunteer frequently with my synagogue, using and developing new skill sets. And I take a lot of classes on Zoom.” —REBECCA T.
“Studying to become an Ayurvedic Health Counselor!” —LAURA P.
“Constantly learning, taking classes, traveling, volunteering by giving presentations for Road Scholar and other groups, many crafts, other volunteer work and enjoying time with friends and my cats.” —PAULA W.

“Volunteering at a senior dog sanctuary, which includes mentoring student volunteer groups.” —JANE PETERS C.
“The Read-Aloud program has become my post-retirement gig. Two days a week I volunteer at a local elementary school and read to students in grades K-2.” —CHARLES M.
“I’m learning to play cello, learning Japanese, tending to my yard (adding flowers to make it prettier) and swimming laps every day.” —LINDA H.
