HEARTFELT LUNCHES INITIATIVE 2025

A Recap of Recent Gatherings

The first lunch, held in January, had an outstanding attendance with more than 85 attendees joining us for the afternoon. This first of many lunches saw the Seine River Services for Seniors serving a lunch catered by Derica’s Restaurant and guests enjoyed a fascinating artifact exhibit from the Dawson Trail Museum where they explored

historical pieces and learned more about the region’s rich heritage, adding an education and engaging aspect to the luncheon.

February’s event built on that success, drawing in around 100 seniors for an afternoon celebrating Métis culture. This delicious event was catered by the Lagimodiere Restaurant (Richer Inn). The Richer Métis Local generously provided our

guests with the pleasure of indulging in Bannock, and Métis pudding cake to end the meal. A lively fiddle performance by Gilles Crevier and Sara brought energy and excitement to the room, while a beautiful display of beaded art, sashes and flags, presented by the Richer Métis Local, gave attendees a deeper appreciation of Métis traditions and craftsmanship.

In March another successful Heartfelt Lunch was hosted in Richer with over 100 attending to devour some salad and pizza catered by Burnell’s Food Plus. The RM of Ste. Anne had their Emergency Operations Manager available to share Emergency Preparedness ideas and resources available when an emergency occurs. The RM of Ste. Anne Team coordinated this month’s event.

Looking Ahead

The next Heartfelt Lunch will be held on April 22 at the Young at Hearts Hall with some Richer School students serving the lunch and Seine River Services for Seniors bringing together a mini health and wellness fair with lots of experts available to answer questions on various services available to the seniors’ demographic! We look forward to welcoming you!

Making Accessibility Priority

One of the most important aspects of this initiative is its commitment to accessibility. To ensure that transportation is not a barrier, free accessible transportation has been provided from a central location, the Villa Youville in Ste. Anne, but as we continue to host this program, and it continues to grow, we hope to expand transportation options from additional locations, allowing even more seniors to join us.

A Community Effort

This initiative would not be possible without the incredible support of our community and partners. Heartfelt Lunches has been made possible through a generous grant from Age-Friendly Manitoba and is brought to you by the RM of Ste. Anne, the Richer Young at Hearts Club, the Richer Recreation Committee, the Richer Community Club, the Richer Métis Local, and Seine River Services for Seniors. While the luncheon remains free to attend, we kindly suggest a $5-$10 donation at the door to help sustain this initiative. Your contributions help us to continue to offer delicious meals and a welcoming space for seniors to gather and connect. If you’re interested in volunteering, sponsoring, or supporting this initiative in any way, please contact the RM of Ste. Anne at 204-422-5929 or general@rmofsteanne.com.

SEWER SYSTEM SURVEY

The Municipality is beginning to explore the possibility of installing a town sewer system in Richer. Installing a new sewer system in a small town is a very big investment with big impacts, both positive and negative. We’ve done a preliminary feasibility study, but before going any further, we want to hear from municipal property owners. Such a big question needs careful consideration, which is why we need your feedback. Please take a few minutes to complete our survey between April 1st and May 2, 2025.

Thank you so much!!

Accueil Kateri Centre Ste-Anne food bank would like to thank everyone who has helped make Christmas hamper distribution 2024 a success! In December Christmas hampers were distributed to 160 families, including 247 children who received age-appropriate personal gifts.

A heartfelt thank you to all the people who made monetary do-

nations, organized food and toy drives, and gave non-perishable food. Thanks to numerous knitters and sewers, every hamper contained home-made items such as hats, blankets, mittens, slippers, sweaters, socks, scarves, fabric bags and other things. Thank you to all those who bought the children’s gifts that were needed. Thanks also to all of you who purchased used books and pumpkins at the Paradise Village sales. These fund-

raisers allowed for the purchase of new books for the children. Thanks to Robert Chaput who lent one of his office rooms to sort and wrap the children’s gifts; to Michelle at Sweet June for the food and toy drive; to Maranda and the hockey players; to the schools, students and teachers; to the residents of Paradise Village and of Villa Youville; and to so many groups and individuals who made a difference. Thank you also to the many vol-

unteers who helped prepare and distribute the hampers. Thanks to the Ste-Anne’s firefighters who helped with the traffic during the two distribution days and who carried all those heavy boxes. A very special thank you to the Rural Municipality of Ste-Anne and the Town of Ste-Anne for their continued support. To all, your help and contributions are very important. The board of Accueil Kateri Centre wishes you a most wonderful 2025!

POOLS AND HOT TUBS - DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that all swimming pools and/or hot tubs, capable of containing more than 24 inches of water, require a Building Permit and must be inspected? This includes ALL types of above and below ground pools, including temporary or seasonal pools.

All private pools must be completely enclosed with a fence or other suitable barrier, including self-closing and locking gates, where applicable. Pool covers of any type, material, manufacture, or strength do not count as a suitable barrier. Hot Tubs require a cover that has the structural strength to support the weight of an adult walking across the top of the cover when it is in the closed position.

Many pools have features, such as inflatable ring edges, that allow the depth of the pool to increase beyond 24” and should be included in any pool’s depth measurement.

Please apply for your Pool and/or hot tub permit by visiting our website at www.rmofsteanne.com and apply though Cloudpermit.

If you have any questions or troubles navigating Cloudpermit please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 204-422-5929 or planning@rmofsteanne.com, we are happy to help.

REEVE RECEIVES KING CHARLES III CORONATION MEDAL FOR SERVICE

On Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, Reeve Richard Pelletier was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal at the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach. Member of Parliament Ted Falk presented the medal to the RM of Ste. Anne’s Reeve, and 33 other worthy individuals, for their significant contributions to their municipality, region, and community through Public Service. Richard Pelletier has served for a number of years as a public servant, having been an elected official of both the Town of Ste. Anne, and now the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne. He has worked to improve the quality of lives for residents and stakeholders of this region not only through the work done around the Council Chambers desk, but also by sitting on multiple committees and boards, and advocating at every opportunity for improvements within our region, such as recent efforts to improve the safety of the intersection of Highways PTH 12 and PR 210, to have a new high school build in the region, and to regionalize the Ste. Anne Hospital.

Congratulations to Reeve Pelletier on receiving this well deserved honour, and thank you for your ongoing advocacy for the Ste. Anne region.
