The

Letter from Leadership

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to share our 2023 Impact Report, showcasing the incredible accomplishments we achieved together last year.

One major highlight was our successful transition to becoming a Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) chapter. This strategic move strengthened our ability to offer more comprehensive services and reach more families in need.

Another exciting development in 2023 was laying the groundwork for Spoonful of Hope, our new chef-led volunteer meal program. This innovative initiative which launched this spring aims to provide families with delicious and nutritious meals If you are interested in volunteering for this exciting new program, please visit our website to sign up.

As you turn the page, you'll be introduced to the Mullikin family, whose story exemplifies the impact we strive to make. Their journey embodies the resilience and strength of families navigating a child's hospitalization

From the Chair- On a bittersweet note, this is my final year serving as Board Chair and on the Board It has been a profound privilege leading this organization alongside dedicated volunteers and staff. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together, and I'm confident our future remains bright

Looking ahead, I'm thrilled to welcome Pauline Corso as the incoming Board Chair, who was officially installed at our May meeting. Pauline brings a wealth of experience and passion to this role, ensuring our continued success and growth.

Many thanks to our valued donors and supporters for joining us on this journey. Your unwavering commitment fuels our mission and allows us to provide togetherness, comfort, and support for families during their most challenging times

With sincere gratitude,

Our misson

Serving families with seriously ill children by enabling access to medical care and providing a place that offers comfort, hope, and togetherness.

Mullikin Family Story

For Stephanie and Chris, the joy of expecting their fourth child turned to worry as they received the unexpected diagnosis of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as Brittle Bone Disease, for their little one, Sawyer. "OI was completely new to us, and we had no idea what to expect," Stephanie remembers.

The Mullikins learned about the renowned OI Program at Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware- a far journey from their Virginia home. “Our hospitals just weren’t equipped for this,” Stephanie explains.

In September 2023, Sawyer was born and suffered multiple fractures and breaks- including his arms, legs, and even ribs. He spent the next 58 nights in the NICU receiving specialized care for his fragile bones. The Ronald McDonald House became a “homeaway-from-home” for his parents, offering comfort and support just steps away from their newborn baby.

When Sawyer’s Dad and siblings had to return to Virginia, Stephanie was on her own, but she quickly found community by connecting with other families, sharing, “I found so much comfort in meeting other families, especially other families with OI. I was able to connect with them, vent to them, get advice, and everything else.”

Sawyer, now eight months old, has come a long way since he was born. His medical team is amazed at how much he’s grown- and how strong he is! Every eight weeks, Sawyer undergoes specialized infusions to manage his OI and strengthen his bones. The Mullikin family will continue to travel to Delaware for these vital treatments, and the Ronald McDonald House will be here to provide a welcoming “home-away-from-home” for their visits

Staying at the House allowed Stephanie to remain close to both her baby in the NICU and her three other children. “When my kids and husband were at the House, we had dinner together as a family almost every night. Having dinner provided to us was an incredible blessing and a relief.”

For the Mullikins, staying at the House meant staying together as a family.
