OUR

Mission

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Bluegrass provides essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare.

HOW WE DO IT

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Bluegrass knows that a family with a sick child is a sick family. We were built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child At RMHC, we spend our days serving families through our three Core Programs.

Ronald McDonald House

A 21-room home with kitchen, laundry, and indoor + outdoor play areas

OUR VISION

Ronald McDonald Family Room

An area of respite inside the walls of Kentucky Children’s Hospital (KCH)

Every family has what they need to ensure the best health outcomes for their children.

Ronald McDonald Care Mobile

A mobile dental clinic serving Eastern Kentucky children

OUR Impact

"The Ronald McDonald House is a blessing beyond belief. Could not ask for anything better for us. If not for this place, me and my wife would be sleeping in the car for as long as it takes for our daughter to get better. I am so thankful to be a part of this." - Derrick Watts

Over the past 5 years, 1,316 unique families have stayed at Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of the Bluegrass.

Of those 1,316 families, 62% had an average median income of less than $30,000.

On average, these families lived 100 miles away from Lexington.

Our longest stay was 267 nights, saving that family an estimated $46,725 in accommodation, food, and transportation costs.

THE Family Room

INVESTMENT: $75,000

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is located on the 4th floor of UK HealthCare’s Kentucky Children’s Hospital (KCH) and provides a comforting and quiet area of respite, relaxation, and reflection for loved ones just steps away from their child’s bedside. Guests will find comfortable seating, Lunches with Love, snacks, McCafe coffee, toiletry kits, as well as activities and games. The Family Room is staffed with helpful, specially trained and screened volunteers who take care of families facing difficult circumstances.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room began welcoming guests in 2009. In 2023, Family Room volunteers served 1,412 families

Tabs

Help “pick up the tab” for RMHC!

Our House collects pop tabs from aluminum cans for recycling. The money raised is put into our Family Fund so we can do meaningful activities for those who stay with us This is a great school or office project and an easy way that everyone can help us raise awareness and funds. When everyone pulls together, a little tab can make a big difference!

In 2024, we collected 2,759 pounds of pop tabs through our Pop Tab Palooza events - that’s over 3.4 million pop tabs!

POP TAB PALOOZA

April 24 & November 13, 2025

Pop Tab Palooza is sponsored by Cohen Recycling and Big Blue Junk Removal- our partners who help us haul and recycle millions of pop tabs a year!
