19 VOLTS DC COMPLIANCE VOLTAGE

Set the switch on the filter to a setting that is closest to, but less than, the control system compliance voltage, as indicated in Table 2. Figure 6 shows the factory switch settings for the filter. The control system compliance voltage is the maximum voltage the control system can provide at maximum current. If unsure of the control system compliance voltage, perform the following compliance voltage test. 1. Connect equipment as shown in Figure 7.

Channel numbers 17 through 32 designate the channel number if the interconnecting cable between the junction box and the multiplexer is connected to the 37-pin connector on the multiplexer labeled LOOPS 17-32. The HART communications cable from the filter can be plugged into any channel connector. A standard, straight through, 37-pin D-shell male-tomale cable connects between the junction box and the HART Interchange multiplexer. This cable is available in standard lengths up to 100 feet.

2. Set the control system to provide maximum output current. 3. Increase the resistance of the 1 kilohm potentiometer, shown in Figure 7, until the current observed on the milliammeter begins to drop quickly. 4. Record the voltage shown on the voltmeter. This is the control system compliance voltage.

Installed Adjustment After installing the filter and setting it for the proper voltage, if it appears not to be working properly, this procedure may be used to adjust the filter for proper operation with the actual control system, wiring, and instrument connected. 1. Connect the equipment as shown in Figure 8.

Filter Adjustment The filters are factory adjusted for a control system compliance voltage of 19 volts at 22 mA. If the control system compliance voltage is greater than 19 volts and the terminal voltage (available) at the instrument is 12 volts dc, minimum, the filter does not need to be readjusted. Use the guidelines given in PS Sheet 62.1:FIELDVUE(A) to calculate the terminal voltage (available).

2. Set the control system to the maximum current output. 3. Adjust the switch on the filter to obtain a voltmeter reading that is 0.5 volts below the compliance voltage of the control system. Record this reading. 4. Connect the voltmeter to the output of the filter and verify the voltage read is at least 2.3 volts below the voltage recorded in step 3. If the voltage difference is not 2.3 volts, you may have inadequate control system compliance voltage for the filter to operate properly.
