Denise Birdwell Superintendente Interina del SUSD Welcome to the first edition of Advantage, the Scottsdale Unified School District’s new community magazine. The publication will be distributed twice annually, in the spring and fall, and will highlight the wonderful programs and accomplishments of SUSD students and staff. At SUSD we firmly believe that “one size” does not fit all. As a result, we tailor our educational programs to meet the needs of all of our students. Our goal is to offer a world-class education to all students ensuring that they are “future ready.” We recognize that our students have multiple post-secondary paths and we strive to offer programs to prepare students to succeed in the 21st century workforce. This magazine will help you visualize the programming occurring within the walls of your schools. I believe this content will lead to conversations between families and neighbors as well as between the District and the community. This issue of our magazine focuses on how we prepare students to be future ready. We will share why we believe it is important that our students are exposed to technology, technical education, rigorous coursework and dual enrollment. These are the opportunities preparing our students for their futures. Today’s students will be tomorrow’s leaders in our community and economy. At SUSD we strive to ensure that our students leave our campuses ready to make a positive contribution to society.

En el SUSD, creemos firmemente que “una talla” no sirve para todos. Como resultado, adaptamos nuestros programas para que cumplan con las necesidades de todos nuestros estudiantes. Nuestra meta es ofrecerles a todos los estudiantes una educación de clase mundial asegurándonos de que estén “preparados para el futuro”. Reconocemos que nuestros estudiantes tienen múltiples trayectorias post-secundarias y nos esforzamos en ofrecerles programas que los preparen a que tengan éxito en el mundo laboral del siglo XXI. Esta revista los ayudará a visualizar los programas que se ponen en práctica entre las paredes de sus escuelas. Creo que el contenido conducirá a conversaciones entre las familias y vecinos, e igualmente entre el Distrito y la comunidad. Esta edición nuestra la revista se centra en cómo preparamos a los estudiantes a que estén listos para el futuro. Compartiremos por qué creemos que es importante que nuestros estudiantes estén expuestos a la tecnología, a la educación técnica, a cursos rigurosos y a la matrícula doble. Estas son las oportunidades que preparan a nuestros estudiantes para sus futuros. Los estudiantes de hoy serán los líderes de nuestra comunidad y economía del mañana. En el SUSD, nos esforzamos en estar seguros de que nuestros estudiantes dejen los planteles escolares preparados y a que contribuyan positivamente con la sociedad.

Advantage is a twice yearly publication of the Scottsdale Unified School District designed to share news and information with the community. To keep costs low, advertising revenue is used to offset the publishing, printing and mailing costs of this magazine. 4
