uying a new home in December could be a great idea if you’re looking to move into a newly constructed home as soon as possible. These already-built or under-construction residences are often referred to as “inventory homes” — a term that may be used interchangeably with homes considered to be “quick move-in” (or QMI). But in some communities, a significant distinction may be made between an inventory home and a QMI home.
For example: Fulton Homes maintains a robust inventory of already-built or under-construction homes in each of its 11 Valley communities. Up to 10 QMI homes are available in each location, said Dennis Webb, vice president of operations for the builder. “We choose the three or four most popular floorplans for our inventory homes,” Webb said, adding that they make sure the homes are in various stages of construction, so buyers have the opportunity to choose what’s best for them. “For each floorplan, one might be at slab (where only the concrete Great selection foundation has been poured),” he said.
