From the Artistic Director June, 2017 Howdy! Welcome to the Denver Women’s Chorus very first country and western show! Get prepared for a rootin’ tootin’ good time with the women of the chorus. We have had a total blast putting this show together for you. The music represents some of the most important women of country music and this idiom is part of our American tapestry. The music and the spirit of the lyrics talk about hope, courage and wide open spaces. The music is fun and catchy but more than that it is part of who we are.

Artistic Staff Bios Mark Zwilling

Artistic Director, Denver Women’s Chorus Mark’s educational and professional background is extensive, and he has served as artistic director for the women’s chorus for 14 years. Mark also served as artistic director for Out Loud: the Colorado Springs Men’s Chorus for 5 years. Currently, he is the Director of Music and The Arts at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch. St. Andrew has more than 450 active music participants in a graded music program. Mark is an active performer and maintains a private studio in organ, voice and piano.

Alison Dozier

The chorus is an active part of the Denver community and works on many projects with schools, shelters and retirement communities. We are also engaged in planning programs about women. We commission music by women and we are mindful that we still have a lot of work to do. This concert is for you, our audience (who takes a chance on us), and comes to see what we are up to now. We are up to bringing you great music but not music in the box. As the Artistic Director I was out of my comfort zone teaching a genre of music that I do not know well. Thanks to our wonderful staff Alison, Beth, our band and our guest choreographer, Laura, they have helped pull the pieces together and approach the music with authenticity and expertise. If you’ve seen us before, you know you will reap those rewards with each of our concerts – but especially this one! If you are singer I hope you will consider singing with us in the future. Every season explores different types of music and there are always pleasant surprises. One thing that you can count on is a great community of wonderful, skilled women that love music and who embody the purpose of bringing music to life. Thank you again for being with us. Now park your horse, get ready to tap your toes and enjoy the show!

Mark Zwilling Artistic Director, Denver Women’s Chorus

By the Dixie Chicks, arranged by Brad Stephenson

Performed by Take Note! Soloist: Leah Romero-Klein

There’s always someone out there listening that hears you that you’re touching.” – Mickey Guyton Dedication - to the carpool from Colorado Springs

Heart Way Home

By Brandi Carlile, arranged by Joel Derksen, Arielle Finegold & Alison Dozier

Performed by Take Note! Soloist: Kayln Bohl Duets: Leah & Krystalyn, TL & Beth, Shari & Lee, Rebekah & Alison “I love country music so much because of the way it sounds and because of its traditions, but also because it really does speak to the way I live when I am in my truck and I’m going to get hay for the horse and I’m chasing chickens around the yard. My sexual orientation has very little to do with that, so I expect the country music industry to catch up to that sentiment -that even lesbians have chickens and horses and problems finding work and all the things that they sing about, and they will catch up to that eventually. I am of the strong belief that where you stand out most is exactly where you’re needed.” – Brandi Carlile

I Hope You Dance

Words and Music by Tia Sillers and Mark D. Sanders Arr. Ed Lojeski

Soloists: Janice Bowen and Lyndsey Lane

“When a song really connects with so many people, it’s because they felt something when they heard it,. This song makes you think about and feel for the people you really love in your life. Who doesn’t have someone like that in their life? “ – Lee Ann Womack Dedication - Mairi Racinowski “May you remember these words as you grow into a beautiful young woman.” from Janice Bowen

Stuck Like Glue

Words and Music by Shy Carter, Kristian Bush, Jennifer Nettles, and Kevin Griffin Arr. Mark Brymer

Hopefully, we come around at some point and realize our own value.” – Jennifer Nettles Dedication - Hillary Halligan “The Love of my Life that pulled me back in and went there making me feel like a kid again. Love you. - Kendra” from Kendra Halligan Dedication - “To my Laura: this is us. With love from Stephanie.” from Stephanie Jauregui

Blame It On Your Heart

Words and Music by Harlan Howard and Kostas

Join RMAA’s Guardian Circle! What is the Guardian Circle Program? The Guardian Circle is a monthly giving program, set up by people that have elected to wrap their arms around the choruses of RMAA and support their mission in the community of Building Community Through Music via a monthly donation giving program. This program is set up at your convenience to allow you to contribute whatever you are able on a monthly basis, instead of a lump sum. Donations can be specifically donated to one of the chorus programs or all, and are used to help the choruses purchase the music they perform in the community as part of their mission, help some chorus members pay their dues to be part of one of the chorus, and to help pay for the administrative functions that support the choruses and overall organization. Consider being part of the program! What you get: Mention in all chorus concert programs in the Guardian Circle section A special Guardian Circle pin, invitations to exclusive donor events, including our upcoming August wine tasting event - previews of concerts access to the exclusive VIP areas at all of our shows just for being a supporter of RMAA, DGMC, or DWC.
