However, physical geography differences such as altitude throughout the Province, or distance from the west and the coast cause climate differences that can be assumed as important in terms of rainfall, temperature and sun. On the basis of the Province, annual average temperature changes between 14-18 ºC in coastal regions. While the hottest months are July (27.3 ºC) and August (27.6 ºC), the coldest months are January (8.6 ºC) and February (9.6 ºC). In summer, temperature at the coastal regions is approximately 1-2 ºC lower in comparison with inner regions by the effect of sea breeze. Temperature which is average 7 ºC in winter season decreases occasionally due to maritime air mass coming from the north and the northwest. In İzmir, significant differences are seen in rainfall distribution according to the months and seasons. Annual average rainfall amount in İzmir is 700 mm ; while more than 50 % of the annual rain falls in winter season and the 40-45 percentage falls in spring and autumn, as for 2-4 %, it falls in summer months.
