by my tour guide Hatice Özer from the Municipality of Manavgat, started at 10 o’clock in the morning. She hadn’t been on a tour on the river for years so this was also ‘a good trip’ for her too. While I was quietly watching

the scenery from the stern, my tour guide pointed to two fishermen near the river and said, “Do you know? Fishermen never talk to each other”. She didn’t wait for me to ask why and continued “Here, fishermen think if they talk to each other they will scare the fish.” After that, we continued our journey in silence. The river, which is home to fish such as carp and trout, was partly covered by the leaves from the Taurus Mountains. Cormorants which lived in reeds as high as a human being in some places were looking for food among the cool waters of the river. While the horses were drinking water from the river, lands were waiting to be irrigated. All the nature around us was taking advantage of the river. In the past, the river was used for timber transportation. The trees that were cut from the Taurus Mountains were dismissed to the river and loaded onto ships once they had reached the sea. A new line of work is being carried out on the river, thanks to tourism, where timber transportation no longer exists. Daily boat tours have become the source of income for many people. Daily tours, which start in the morning and last for 6 hours, have become very popular with tourists.
