The German-founded town of Fredericksburg has become an increasingly popular location due to its booming tourism industry that centers around wine, live music events, and shopping on the charming downtown strip. To meet the demand for luxury wine experiences, a proposed boutique hotel and winery on 145 acres of land will include 40 cottages, a restaurant and bar, an outdoor patio, and ample indoor and outdoor spaces for activities and events. The goal of this project was to create a seamless and memorable experience for guests, reflecting the local culture and landscape, while being economically sustainable, and completed in a timely manner.

COMMERCIAL PROJET THIS PROJECT WAS DONE IN COLLABORATION WITH BREE CLARK (INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT) AND KATIE LEE (ARCHITECTURE STUDENT) FALL 2023
PROGRAMS USED: REVIT ENSCAPE PHOTOSHOP
GROUP PROJECT This project aimed to revitalize and enhance Texas Tech’s Huckabee College of Architecture (HCOA) building, incorporating a design that introduces 43,389 new square feet to accommodate additional spaces and involves a full redesign of three existing floors. Recognizing the need for change driven by increased student enrollment and evolving technology, Texas Tech Interior Design students collaborated with the College of Architecture students on this project. This collaboration aimed to holistically address the limitations of the current architecture building and elevate the educational experience. The students collectively leveraged their skills to conceive a rejuvenated space that not only met the expanding program requirements but also fosters a dynamic, collaborative atmosphere, laying the foundation for an innovative future in architectural education at Texas Tech.
HCOA CAFE AND FEATURE STAIRS THIS RENDERING WAS DESIGNED BY RYLEE JOWERS REVIT ENSCAPE
The vision for the redesign of the Texas Tech Architecture Building revolved around the powerful concept of "Visual Connectivity." By fostering an environment where students, faculty, and visitors can seamlessly connect with each other, their surroundings, and the rich history of the institution, the building became a transformative space that bridged the past and future. Embracing transparency and openness aided in creating an architectural masterpiece that not only modernized the building but also reaffirmed its place in the ever-evolving landscape of architectural education. This redesign stood as a testament to Texas Tech's commitment to fostering connections that lead to boundless opportunities and a brighter architectural future.
AUSTIN E. NOWLTON SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE The selection of the Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture as our precedent study for the redesign of the Texas Tech Architecture Building is rooted in its exemplary use of visual connectivity, which serves as a guiding principle for our project. The School strategically employs design elements that allow students to perceive different spaces from within a single area, fostering a sense of openness and interconnectedness. The prevalence of collaborative spaces within the Knowlton School is another influential aspect informing our approach. We aim to incorporate similar collaborative zones that encourage interaction and idea exchange among students and faculty, promoting a dynamic learning environment.
ABEDIAN SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE The Abedian School of Architecture was chosen as a precedent study for the redesign of the Texas Tech Architecture Building because of its innovative design features. The school excels in creating visual connectivity through strategic architectural elements, particularly the use of stairs as dynamic spaces that motivate activity and wayfinding. By incorporating similar design principles, we aim to enhance the Texas Tech Architecture Building's spatial experience, encouraging movement and interaction. Furthermore, the Abedian School places a strong emphasis on natural light, seamlessly integrating it into the building's design to create a bright and inspiring atmosphere.

A CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE AND SUSTAINABLE AGING-IN-PLACE HOME The clients, Michael and Shirin Herzog, had recently purchased a brownstone in the prestigious Georgetown neighborhood of Washington D.C.. In 2021, Michael was appointed as Israel’s Ambassador to the United States. His wife, Shirin Herzog, with whom he has two children, is an attorney. This religious husband and wife, father and mother, strategic thinkers, and avid readers were seeking a complete remodel of the four-million-dollar home, requesting both high-end finishes, furniture, appliances, and accessories to suit their lifestyles as well as to incorporate aging-in-place and sustainable components for the future. They preferred a style that would combine both modern and traditional techniques for an overall cohesive design with Jewish influences. They needed guest bedrooms for their adult children along with a bunk room for their grandchildren. Lastly, the space needed to consider their Jewish beliefs by providing storage for traditional and religious items and a Kosher kitchen.

This space took the architectural elements of the Jaffa hotel, connecting contemporary and modern design to the historical aesthetics of Israel. Offering and presenting rich history and culture, juxtaposed with modern furnishings, traditional décor, and vibrant colors, the home created an in-the-moment presence. The incorporation of arches, vaulted ceilings, exposed limestone, different textures, and patterns shown through lighting and materials, was used throughout the space to represent the fine comforts of Israel. This welcoming space reflects the cultural Israeli lifestyle in luxury.

The office is a functional space within the home that is essential for the clients worklife. It is depicted as a perspective to illustrate the functionality provided by the glass wall and sliding door. Beyond the sliding glass door is a space that provides natural light and a seating arrangement that can function as a bedroom when necessary. Curtains are implemented in the design to provide optional privacy between both spaces. The goal of the perspective is to illustrate the layout of the connected spaces to further the understanding of natural light and its importance within both spaces.
