JAKARTA CHILDREN & YOUTH CHORUS (JCYC) is an independent choir school, the first one

consisting students of various levels in Jakarta and nearby areas, under the association led by RIZAL A. TANDRIO. Founded in April 2005, JCYC has became a means of learning and also a place to sing together as a choir for students in Jakarta and nearby areas, who have talent in singing, so that they can be directed in order to be a good chorister or an excellent choirmaster.

Upholding the spirit of nationalism through choir, JCYC has recorded several International achievements as a tribute to Indonesia, such as:

SILVER MEDAL WINNER

• Being the 1st Indonesian children and youth choir who succeeded in making a public concert themed “THE SPIRIT OF INDONESIA” at one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, ESPLANADE RECITAL STUDIO SINGAPORE on 9th July, 2008, also lively reported by The International Singapore Radio, Indonesia broadcast.

The strength of this choir is that the members of this choir arrange almost all of the songs they sing. It brings the consequence that the character of their songs is the same as that of this choir. Besides, the varieties of the songs, from classic up to modern pop, can meet the people’s need.

Felicitas choir has young people as members. They come from different Catholic Church choirs in Yogyakarta. Up to now, this choir has already done many activities and has had many experiences such as doing the service and professional jobs, joining some competitions, doing the recording and organizing some events.

RIZAL A. TANDRIO, choir & artistic director RIZAL A. TANDRIO is one of the young talented choir conductors in Indonesia, also well-known as a children and youth choir instructor with a lot of experiences in many competitions, both at national and international levels. On February 6-10, 2008, Rizal was chosen to represent Indonesia as one of the 60 participants from all over the world, who was specially invited to the 1st International Forum Voice, Youth and Arts Management in Caen, France, held by the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), working together with Polyfolia, well-known as the organizer of World Showcase and Market Place for Choral Singing. Now, Rizal is also registered as a member of International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) and American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

ANGELICA LIVIANA, pianist She started her first piano lesson at the age of 11 with Madame Wu Ye Ling. Currently she is studying at the Universitas Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Mr. Mario Santoso. Her major piano teachers are Ms. Wanni Bongawan,M.Mus., Henoch Kristianto,B.A, Alfred Rony Situmorang and DR. Hendry Wijaya. She has won many prizes such as the 1st prize in Bali Piano Competition 2006, 2nd prize in Johannes Oentoro Piano Competition, 2nd prize in Gracia Piano Competition 2006, 3rd prize in ELMS International Chamber Music & Piano Competition, 3rd prize in Gracia Piano Competition 2005 and 3rd prize in Chopin Piano Competition 2008 held by Radio Suara Surabaya. Besides winning competitions, Angelica has also been an active participant in master classes held by Eriko Takezawa, Esther Budiardjo, Mamoru Yabuki, Mina Yamauchi, Christian Ostrander, Marco Sollini and Barbatore Salvatore, Lluis Avendano. In 2005, she participated in Indonesian Young Pianist Recital at Goethe Haus. In 2006, she held a Duo Piano Recital at Erasmus Huis and in May 2007, April and December 2008, she held her solo recital at UPH. She joined the Jakarta International Summer Music Festival in 2007. In March 2008, she had an opportunity to perform “Carnival of the Animals” with the LKCCO at the prestigious Usmar Ismail Recital Hall.

Established on May 14, 2007, Angelii Vox Choir is a small choir with 9 – 13 choristers. “Angelii Vox Choir“ means Angels’ choir and has its guardian Grand Angels. St. Michael – Admiral of Heaven Legionnaire St. Raphael – The Healer, dan St. Gabriel – The Messanger of Joy.The angels are our spiritual spirits with the hope our voice can be a blessing to others via the songs. AVC was blessed in an Oct. 7, 2007 mass at Nganjuk church by Father Andri Noertjahja, Pr, the former head of Church of “St. Maria Tak Bercela” Surabaya. At its very young age, AVC will continually develop its talent and improve its quality in arts and in other fields in life arts. • Winning the “SILVER C” MEDAL for YOUTH CHOIR EQUAL VOICES category and FOKLORE category in 2008 HONGKONG INTERNATIONAL YOUTH & CHILDREN’S CHOIR FESTIVAL in Hong Kong, China, held by Hong Kong Treble Choir Association, sponsored by Hong Kong Arts Development Council and Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Still at the same event, 3 JCYC’s soloists also successfully rank THE BEST TEN in SOLO SINGING category for teenagers under 16th year old.

Felicitas choir was established on 23 November 1999 through several processes of meetings.

It was done by the church youth community.

Felicitas literally means happiness and Joy. This meaning becomes the motto of this choir in singing the songs and doing the missions. Felicitas has the vision to build the family relationship based on the same motivation to develop people by music. Its mission is to bring up the self-actualization people by singing and develop their abilities in creating and arranging songs which is not exclusively only for the church society, but also for people in general. It is hoped that through songs and music, Felicitas choir can bring the happiness and joy to others.

HATI SUCI CHILDREN CHOIR - JAKARTA

Hati Suci Children Choir was founded as a part of the extra curricular activities of the Hati Suci School. It consists of children aged 10 – 16, as determined by the INTERCULTUR FOUNDATION for the choir Olympics ( MUSICA MUNDI ).

Since its establishment in 1996, Hati Suci Children Choir has been trained and directed by Mr. Paulus Wangga and Mr. Bambang Jusana. The choir has been serving the the Christian and Catholic Churches around the school, as well as representing the Hati Suci School in competitions.

The choir participated in ‘Cantate Domine’ concert at the Cathedral Church, Jakarta, 2006, Pre-Competition concert with Vox Angelorum Choir and Sky Lark Chorus, 2007, and Christmas Concert with Teravoce Music Consort, The Chorale Singer and Jakarta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Angela Yeung from USA. And their achievements include the Silver Medal at the ITB Choir Festival 2006, 1st Winner at the Catholic Junior High School Choir Competition, held by Yayasan Ignatius Loyola, Jakarta, 2007, and the Bronze Medal in the ‘First Asian Choir Games’ in Jakarta, 2007.

KARANGTURI YOUTH CHOIR SEMARANG

Karangturi’s Choir was establihed in 2005, together with the implementation of the National Standard School Program. In the beginning, Karangturi’s Choir only performed in the school flag and graduation ceremonies.

YUBILUS CHILDREN CHOIR - SEMARANG

(known as “Paduan Suara Mazmur Bhakti YUBILUS GIA Pringgading)

The Choir of Mazmur Bhakti Yubilus was established in 1977 by Elkana’s family.

This family wanted to hold children choir in the Church of Jesus Christ (Gereja Isa Almasih Pringgading). The number of early members of the choir was 27. They are from the Sunday School of the Church; and until now, the number of members have developed into 100 children.

The further development of the Choir has been divided into two groups based on the age of the children. The junior group consists of the children who are 9-14 years old, while the senior group 15-19 years old. At this time, the conductor is Pastor Lie Yun Ling.

The Choir of Mazmur Bhakti Yubilus is not related to the worship of the Church only. The Choir also accomplished some performances, such as the Operette “Praise Is” in April 1989 at the Church and at Simpang Lima Plaza 7th Semarang; the Operette “Singalongathon” in 1993 at Balai Sartika - Bandung; the Operette “Christmas Calamity” in 1994 at the Church; the Operette “Charity Church Mouse on the Front Line” in 2003 at Patra Jasa Hotel Semarang; the concert “Christmas Time to Love” in 2007 at Mitra Graha Building Semarang.

“Magnificat Ensemble Music” background was not based purely on Ensemble Music performance’s dream , but rather to protect church teens of Gereja Utusan Pantekosta di Indonesia from any bad circumstances by giving them several activities such as Indor’s Sport, Open Air Out Bond, Music Band, and Ensamble Music.

It seems that many of our teens prefer to join the Ensamble Music activities, which were at first not well organized.

The vision to start Ensamble Mmusic appeared to our church pastor’s mind, Rev. Drs. Ch. M. D. Estefanus. M.Si. and his wife Deboradewi Estefanus, M.Si., when they again and again saw several kids and teens playing and doing nothing, while waiting for their parents to finish their choir’s rehearsal In the middle of 2004 they started organizing Ensemble Music.

The members were beginners playing any musical instrument, but their high spirit to begin Ensemble Music made them at last succeed to organize Teen’s Ensemble Music and Children Choir.

Ensemble Music and Children’s Choir “Magnificat” were blessings, not only to our church but also to other churches out of town and succesfully performed their own Home Concert at “King of the Jungle” in Graha Anugrah building.

“Rejoice” Youth Choir is one among the nineteen church choirs in Gereja Utusan Pantekosta di Indonesia – Jemaat Pasar Legi Solo. All the members of Rejoice’s choir are teens. They practise choir every Friday. “Rejoice” choir has been involved in many church big events and regularly takes part in church’s service. Together with Petra’s Choir, they also ever successfully performed the Negro Spiritual Home Concert in February 2008, at Graha Anugrah building, Jl. Merpati II/1 Solo.

Established on June 2008, Serafim Children Choir (SCC), formerly known as Magelang Children Choir, has been singing and performing in several occasions.

Originally focusing on the 2008’s Church Choir Festival in Purwodadi and eventually becoming the second runner-up, SCC consists of a group of children coming from several churches in Magelang.

SCC regularly practices under the training of Rosmaida Tambunan (the conductor) and Ratna Ningtyas (the coordinator), accompanied by Danny Hosea’s piano playing.

SCC has performed many times in different churches as well as several big events.

In the beginning of 2008, SCC performed in Christmas and New Year Celebration of KORPRI, TNI and BKS Magelang, and it sang in the Christmas Celebration for AGAPE Doctors’ Fellowship in Magelang. Besides, in April 2009, SCC performed in Puri Asri Hotel, presenting some Indonesian traditional songs for the opening of the Anthony Hartono’s Recital Piano. As the name suggests, SCC wants to keep singing for the glory of the praiseworthy Almighty Lord.

Santa Clara Choir was established in 1991. Since then, it has been an extracurricular activity in Santa Clara Catholic Junior High School. The purposes of this activity are to increase the students’ skill in singing (Trained by Mr. Gervas Rado M) and to implement the Art lesson the students have in the classroom.

The choir has regular practice on Saturdays. It has been usually for a school mass, participating in The Art Performace, and joining in the choir competitions.

Some students of Santa Clara Choir have been participated in some singing competitions, as singers in traditional music competition, and in church.

Handbell is one of the musical instruments, which is elegant and unique. It comes from England and was just brought to the United State by Margareth Schurcliff in 1902. Handbell is in the form of a bell. It is designed to ring it by hands. Every bell has different tone so that if all of the bells are played together, they will form a beautiful harmonious tone.

SMAK St. Hendrikus has a vision to create education, based on Christianity, which is quality, dynamic and responsive to the development. Since having this musical instrument is one of the steps to fulfill our vision and mission, we make it as one of our extra-curriculars in our school. Thus, as the first owner of this musical instrument in Indonesia, we proudly present our students’ Handbell Choir Performance.

We hope that our Handbell Choir will be able to enrich the musical varieties in Indonesia and to create a beautiful collaboration with the traditional instrument choir and musical orchestra as well.
