Sports is an integral part of our existence. Since the beginning of time, it’s been regarded as one of the best fields to hone one’s skills. It teaches a lot of things & life skills that one may not learn in his
Sports has evolved throughout the years. Several kinds have been made to further test a person’s endurance when it comes to playing it. It can change a person as well. The questions are why &
Several factors are considered when it comes to sports changing a person. Before joining a certain sports team, a person has his own attitude that’s already innate in him. It’s something that seems unchangeable by any means.
In a game, someone always wins. Someone always loses as well. Sports teaches a person so many things in that aspect. In the midst of victory, he should learn how to be humble at all costs. Let not any form of fame get into his head. When suffering a huge loss, it’s an opportunity for him to examine what went wrong & how he can improve on it. There’s always benefit in winning & losing a match.
Which leads to another point. Hard work. Every person practicing a certain sport knows what this entails. Every practice is an opportunity to improve & hone skills. Being good at a sport does not happen overnight. It takes a lot of time. Constant practice is needed to achieve such stellar feats.
Which leads to the third point. Teamwork. With good teamwork, nothing goes wrong when a team plays for a match. They have non-verbal communication towards each other. They can decode almost any movement in the midst of a match. With teamwork comes a great dynamics of friendship. Camaraderie is built in the team. A player develops competitiveness & dedication with every game & practice with his team.
If sports changes a person, it’s always for the better. What was once an unhealthy diet is replaced with a healthy one. What was once an undisciplined person becomes more disciplined with sports. It allows a person to build his social connections without sacrificing the ones he had built at first.
There is pride in sports. A lot of good things can come to a person when he practices sports, and in winning & losing a game.
Achieving many things at the same time in extracurricular activities contributes to higher selfesteem. There’s always a good high when you’ve done something good. Extracurricular activities also instill discipline & hardwork in a person. They work hard for something they want to achieve & won’t stop at anything just to achieve that.
Having extracurricular activities enables one to learn so many life skills at the same time. These activities teach problem-solving, analytical thinking, time management & goal setting among others. These skills are essential in a work environment setting. It’s better to learn them early in school.
Some students have extracurricular activities aside from their academics that they need to focus on. It’s activities outside the classroom that help them broaden their horizons. While some may see it as an additional burden, some students still go for it. They have several reasons why.
Students have different inclinations. Some of them are inclined into mathematics. Some are into sports. Some of them have the knack of arts & performances. Having an extracurricular activity by joining clubs that cater to one’s passion gives students a sense of freedom.
Now there’s another benefit of having extracurricular activities. It enables a student to expand & broaden his horizons. He learns many things at the same time. It allows him to be more knowledgeable on things other than his comfort zone. It challenges him to do things he hasn’t done before & learn from them in the process.
We are able to list down a few reasons why some students still dabble on extracurricular activities aside from their academics. These reasons are the products of our interview with 50 students for 2 months. We dub it as the “essence of extracurricular activities”, as per the recommendation of the students.
While extracurricular activities can be seen as a hindrance in academics by some, other students see it as an opportunity to improve their academic performance. It makes one manage his time better & study better. For example, if you belong to a sports team, the discipline you get in training will be applied when you study.
Joining clubs as part of extracurricular activities widens your social network. Sometimes it’s hard to make friends. One of the ways to make new friends is by joining extracurricular activities. It makes students deal with many kinds of people & will test their ability to handle & think of solutions in various situations.
