I hadn’t been prepared for the many, simply majestic, vistas at every turn, as we gently navigated the beautiful Douro river. Sunrises, sunsets, rolling hills, vineyards, iconic bridges and dramatic locks, I didn’t think it could get any better. However, early one morning, opening the curtains of my cabin, to this stunning view, simply took my breath away.

Cape Breton National Park is home to the famous Cabot Trail, a scenic 298 km roadway that winds through rugged mountains and along dramatic coastal cliffs, offering some of the most incredible views in Canada.

It is unsurprising that our tour of South America had many wonderful highlights given that it included no less than two ‘wonders of the modern world’. An outstanding memory, however, will always be our first sight of Copacabana beach. A combination of frenetic beach sport activity and rolling Atlantic waves framed against the stunning backdrop scenery and a rich golden sunset, made this our ‘standout place’ of the tour which we were able to share, for a short time, with the people of Rio.
